I don't want Bing as my default search engine. I've tried everything, and it won't go away. What can I do?

No matter what I do - I tried my search engines, the reorganization remove Bing in the list, all together, ranging up to about: config and change all values from Bing to google.comand even reset Firefox - every time that I reopen it Firefox, Bing is always my default search engine. I really want to get rid of and have Google be my default and stay there even when I closed and reopened Firefox, but I don't know what else to try.

There is software like Advanced SystemCare thanks to its surf Protection feature that allows to protect the files in the folder of Firefox profile against the changes.
If you have this software, then check the settings or uninstall this software.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem.

  • Put yourself in the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance
  • Do NOT click on the reset button on the startup window Mode safe

If you do not keep the changes after a reboot or have problems with preferences, see:

Make a check of malware with several malware scanning of programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs, because each program detects a different malicious program.
All of these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before scanning.

Alternatively, you can write a check for an infection rootkit TDSSKiller.

  • How to change the sort order of the items sought for the last element of this research first. I DON'T want to say the order search engines, but the existing research by arrow down

I want to be able to change the sort order of the items, I already looked in the search box. I want to be able to hit the arrow key down and see my previous searches in order of last search showing the first. For the moment, I don't know how it is sorting and it is very annoying to have to re - enter a query that I typed 5 minutes earlier, but because I typed in another 10 since it's lost somewhere in the list. Is it possible, I Googled, but did not find the topic anywhere. Just to clarify, I DON'T mean of the order of the search engines (which is what appears in google), I mean that the text typed into which has been registered in the drop-down list.

    Thank you

'Form filling' uses a "frecency" algorithm, frequency + recency, similar to the list of AutoComplete address bar.

I found an extension that seems relevant, but critics are old, so I'm not sure it's still working: Searchbar Autocomplete Order.

But... is the AutoComplete does not? I expect that typing a few characters of the previous query would be to filter the list so that you can easily select? Or is the problem that the list does not remember quite who looking for?

  • I can't get rid of Bing as my default search engine; at the bottom of the Bing search page, the following appears: by [PhotoJoy U.S.], part of the duct network. Could this be a culprit of malware?

I tried all other remedies listed for a diversion of Bing; none worked. Then I noticed attribution ' PhotoJoy/Conduit.

I have picked up PhotoJoy to a download of C-Net, which has inserted a PhotoJoy toolbar in Firefox. I did an uninstall and figured I'd put all the shit of PhotoJoy.

Start Firefox in Firefox to solve the issues in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions of the origin of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > appearance/themes).

You can open the topic: config page through the address bar and search to bing via the filter at the top of the about: config page.

You can reset all bing related prefs which appear "BOLD" (user set) via the context menu to their default values.

  • Is there a way to set 'Google by name' as the default search engine? I tried to change keyword. URL, but still it does not work.

I changed (had to add the string so perhaps the preference has changed?) keyword. Whereas, on my office firefox entering youtube would take me on youtube.

Is it possible to get this working?

Note that keyword. URL is no longer used in Firefox 22, so you can't use this to set the search engine used by the address bar. We now use the search provider selected in the search bar.

  • How can I change the default search engine in firefox 14?

I tried to change my default search engine, does not. A read a lot of the help file, but it seems that none of the recommendations had jobs. The problem is in the search box in the upper right where the default from now (the search engine when I open firefox for the first time) is Yahoo. I had tried to change it to goggle by clicking on the drop down arrow and select a new search engine, but does not take effect. Yahoo is still in effect so that the search engine despite this change. I also followed the advice of some to change the default engine by typing "subject: config" in the address bar and some values but still after the opening and closing firefox again, Yahoo is still the default search and could be that the change by selecting from the drop-down search menu.

Thank you for your answer but I managed to fix the problem already. What I did is to select from the dropdown to Ask.com (it seems that it is the only option that work) a window appeared asking me what a search engine change was made, and if I would use Ask.com to be the search engine or to maintain using Yahoo.com. I chose to use Ask.com and disable the protection on the search engine. Toke effect change and after that I could change from the drop down list a search engine like Google. I put a note above in parenthesis closed, that it seems Ask.com works as I tried before to change the search engine Google, but no window came to ask me if I want to change the default search engine.

Once again thanks a lot to you two, for the reply and for your precious time to try to solve this problem.

  • Pavilion dv7: default search engine

I suddenly research when I put something in the address bar of Yahoo.  I want Google as my default search engine.  What can I do to set it?  Thank you!

Google provides a list of instructions for each browser.

IE to navigate the options is a little different in each version.

Here is a link to Googles list of instructions, which is perhaps the best way for you to get exactly the information you need.

Click on the drop down arrow for Internet Explorer 8 + see what to do for each version of IE.

Make Google my default search engine

  • Search engine continues to change the logo of firefox with 'Search The Web' and takes me to different search engines, Bing or Google so far. I don't want to. It used to be always on the Google, and I want to again permanently on Google. Help?

Just like the States mentioned above. This refers to the search bar on the right. I don't want to remove it, I like to use. I want to get back the Google value permanently. Even if I turn it on to Google in the drop-down menu, when I restart Firefox, it changes back. Once again, instead of any other logo of search engine, it has a small logo of Firefox, saying 'Web search' next to him in grey if no text is entered. He often gives Bing search results, even if I deleted Bing in search engines installed.

I also checked the default search engine in topic: config, and despite what I describe above, the default value is still on Google.

Why this is happening and how to fix it? It didn't happen until the other day here, so it would be after the update to Firefox 6.

Go to your add-ons Manager and disable extensions test pilot.

Fixed a problem. Someone should pay me now!

I think that I fixed it by running malawarebytes. AVG has been remove search protect but it came back. has run malawarebytes and it seems to have disappeared.

To change the default search engine or the order of the search engines in the upper search box right in Firefox, please do the following:

    1. Move the mouse cursor inside the search box in top right of the Firefox window and click on the arrow next to the logo of the supplier.
    2. If you want to select another search engine, simply choose the engine in the drop-down list.

To change the order of search engines, follow these steps:

    1. In the drop-down list, select Manage search engines....
    2. In the next window, you have all your search engines listed. To change the order, simply click on a search engine, and then select move up or move down from the buttons on the right side to change the order of search engines.

  • How can I choose the default search engine in the address window?

You explain how to change the 'address bar' default search engine at the top right. I want to know how to change the search engine in the address at the top window to the left. Currently, if I type in an address not recognized, my ISP search engine will appear. I'd rather have the search engine of Google or Bing when I make a mistake of addressing.

You can have an ISP that automatically redirects you to a search page if a DNS search fails.

Who takes control of Firefox to search with the normal keyword like a Google, I'm lucky search.

In this case, you will need to contact your ISP and ask for a DNS to opt-out of this feature.

You can also check if there is a link on the search results page to go to your ISP and opt-out.

  • How to set Google as default search engine in Firefox 5? I tried several fixes, but I get a Yahoo instead of Google search.

I want to use Google as my search engine, but no matter what I change the default search engine settings is still Yahoo.

I would also like to have the track back feature when I opened a new tab, it shows often used pages that I can click on and open.

First of all, thanks to dmcritchie. His solution was helpful. However, I didn't uninstall my Yahoo Toolbar because I have buttons, bookmarks, etc. that do not migrate.

For those of you, like me, who want to continue to use your Yahoo toolbar as well as the use of the Google toolbar, here's another solution:

Rather than uninstall the Yahoo toolbar just hide it. Go to the command bar, select view > toolbars > then uncheck Yahoo toolbar. (See first image)

    Then...

    1. Open a new tab.
    2. Go to the address bar and type auto: config and press the Enter key.
    3. A warning box appears. Close the box by clicking on the button "I'll be careful, I promise". (See the second picture)

    When the text comes up,

    1. Scroll down until you find "browser.search.defaulturl" it will be in bold. Third image, with the selection highlighted by me)
    2. Right click and select the first option which should be "modify", then
    3. Type (or copy and paste) the following:
    http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=

    Then,.

    1. Scroll down until you find "keyword." URL"it will be in bold.
    2. Right click and select the first option which should be "modify", then
    3. Type (or copy and paste) the following:
     http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=

    Finally,.

    1. Scroll down further until you find "yahoo.ytff.search.popup_src" again, it will be in bold.
    2. Right-click on the expression, and then select 'Edit'.
    3. Type (or copy / paste) in the following:

    http://www.Google.com/search?ie=UTF-8 & oe = UTF-8 & q =

    1. Close the tab

    And you're done.

This will allow you to keep all the buttons and bookmarks you have in your Yahoo toolbar without side effects unpleasant to have Yahoo away your research and give you the darned Search 404 error pages.

    I hope this helps.

PS while you make changes to the configuration: automatic, be sure to copy the values that you are editing in a Word Pad document for later retrieval. Be clear about what "preference name" you have accessed and what 'value' you changed. " In this way, if necessary, you can always go back and everything returns to its previous state. I titled my document "Firefox AboutConfig Changes".
