I forgot the security key for my Wi Fi connection, no way of knowing?

I use windows vista. I put a password on my computer for the router. Now that I want to connect my ipad to the internet via WiFi, he asks me the password which I do not remember! What needs to be done? Thank you. Frank

Hello Frank Ind,.

Check your routers user guide to see how you access the default router Manager web page. For example. I have a Netgear router. To access the web page of the default router I type: http://192.168.01 in Windows Explorer. Ask you a user name and password to access the Router Manager (the default name of the user and the password is usually displayed on the router unit itself or in the manual - unless you changed it yourself. For example, the default router to Netgear user name is admin and the password is the password.

Once in the Router Manager web page, click the wireless settings option (or something similar) and you should see your router login password.

By the way some ISPS (internet service providers) actually set the password for the default connection to the router on the merits of the case of the router. Once again, if you have created your own password then you will be able to use the default.

  • I forgot the security issues for apple i.d.

I recently tried to buy something on the ios app store, and it prompted a response to my security questions. I honestly don't remember any security issues. I tried to reset, but you need to call apple. I would just call apple but with American products, I live in a non-English foreign English speaking country and have no international vocation. Is there a way to chat with apple instead of calling them?

If you don't have an alternate email address on your account, then you will need to contact support in the country where you are (and therefore the country on your account) for the reset of questions: If you have forgotten your Apple ID - Apple Support security questions answered

If you are unable to reset your security questions

You cannot send an e-mail to reset, if not an alternate email address, or cannot access the e-mail to your e-mail address of rescue, call us for help. When you call, you may need to create a temporary support PIN to verify your identity. After resetting your security questions, you can update your email address for help.

If your country is not on this page "ask us for help", or if they do not speak English when you contact them, then try this form to contact Support and see what they respond with (it must respond within 48 hours): https://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html

When they have been reset you can then add a backup for possible future use email address: on your Apple ID - Apple Support email addresses

The key to security or password is usually configured by accessing the settings of your wireless router.

Having security "key" for your wireless network rarely allows a connection problem, because it is a long and complex character 64 code... but assuming you have a Mac running a current or recent operating system... Here's hoping that this will help you:

Open Finder > Applications > utilities > AirPort Utility

Click on the image of the Time Capsule

Click Edit in the window that appears

Click on the menu of the Basic Station upward at the top of the screen where the file, editing, window, help and other menus

  • Security key for HP Professional Laserjet P1102w

I have a HP Laserjet P1102w of professional and wanted to use it in wireless direct printing. The connection to the printer networkhas no problem and it can print nicely. But I can't find a way to define a security (e.g. the WEP key or password) key for the wireless connection. In this case, if there is no security key has been defined, then someone in the area could be easily connect to the printer and use it for printing.

    The question:

Is it possible to set a security key for the wireless connection?

    Thank you before.

    Hello

The WEP key or password is on your router, not your printer. Which key WEP other devices (computer (s)) use? Without the WEP key or security key password, anyone can use you your network.

    Kind regards.

  • Adding a security key for an internet connection

We already had a wireless internet connection set up, which we use for a year... A neighbour came round to say that they are able to connect to our network unsecured connection, so obviously I need now to "fix". I do this by adding a security key? I followed the instructions of windows on this operation, but it says it cannot detect our router although it is plugged directly to the laptop.

Not a question for the forum of Security Essentials.  Visit the website of the manufacturer of your router and look at fixing it.  This key will be involved in you logging into the router and setting a WEP (or other).  Once this is done, you MUST use the same key for devices in your home.

  • Do not know the security key to connect to the router

Laptop was working great until the snow storm last weekend.  The due cable company reset the ordinary computer in their office.  Portable now say I am disconnected from the router.  Msg said linksys connection is available and I can connect automatically.  When I try to connect, I get a msg asking for security key.

I entered a number, I thought was the key to security, but said msg number is incorrect.  How will I know what is the security key?

    Hello LindaBarker,

If you you were given your Internet Service Provider (ISP) Linksys router I would then contact them on connect.  If you bought this router separately, I would still contact your ISP first, and then you have to go to Linksys for support on this.

    Thank you

  • Security key for finding wireless router

I have a router D - Link DIR-615 in my apartment and it works fine. My problem is that I can not connect with anything other than my laptop because the security key that I have written down so that it does not work.

I wrote the key, when I set up the network, but when I tried to use it to connect my Wii or your laptop the prompt, I can't make it work. I don't know if I wrote it wrongly or am I misreading 2 as a z or an o as a 0, or it is the case or what.

I tried to go in the part 'Manage wireless networks' network and sharing Center and looking at security settings, but the key is hidden (appears as just a row of dots) and Windows will not let me check the "show characters". How to get around this problem and check the box so I can see my security key.

Connect to the configuration utility of the D-Link from a computer connected through an ethernet cable. Review the configuration settings of the wireless network and to see the level of encryption and password. Write it down. This is general information about the implementation of a wireless network in complete safety. The instructions are written for a Linksys router, but the method is the same for your D-Link. Refer to the manual of the D-Link if necessary.

Have a computer connected to the router with an ethernet cable. Examples given are for a Linksys router. See the manual of your router or the router mftr's Web site. for the parameters by default if you don't have a Linksys. Open a browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox and in the address bar type:

http://192.168.1.1 [Enter] (it is default IP address of the router, which varies from router to router then check your manual)

This will bring you to the login screen of the router. The default username is blank and the Linksys default password is "admin" without the quotes. Enter this information. You are now in the configuration of the router utility. Your configuration utility may be slightly different from mine. The first thing to do is to change the default password because * all * known default passwords for different routers.

Click the Administration link at the top of the page. Enter your new password. MAKE A NOTE SOMEWHERE THAT YOU WILL NOT LOSE. Re-enter the password to confirm it, and then click Save settings at the bottom of the page. The router will reboot and show you the box of connection again. Do not fill in the user name and put it in your new password to enter the configuration utility.

Now, click on the link wireless at the top of the page. Change the network name (SSID) wireless by default to something, you'll recognize. I suggest that my clients not use their surname as the SSID. For example, you might want to name your network wireless network "CastleAnthrax" or similar. ;-)

Click on save settings and when you get the prompt that your changes were successful, click the wireless security link which is just beside the Basic Wireless Settings link (where you changed your SSID). Most computers purchased during the last 4 years have the wireless hardware that will support WPA2-Personal (also known as WPA2-PSK). This is the desired encryption level. If your wireless hardware is older, use WPA. Don't use WEP, because who is easily broken within minutes. So go ahead and set the Security Mode WPA2-Personal. Do this and enter a password. For example, you could use the password ' here be dragons, beware you scurvy dogs! The password is what you enter on all computers that are allowed to connect to the wireless network. MAKE A NOTE SOMEWHERE THAT YOU WILL NOT LOSE.

At this point, your router is set up and if the computer that you use to configure the router will normally connect wireless, disconnect the ethernet cable and wireless of the computer should see your new network. Enter the password that you have created (exactly as you wrote it with all capital letters and punctuation) to join the network and start surfing.

Personal information and files on your wireless network can sometimes be seen by people to pick up the signal from your network. This can lead to identity theft and other acts of violence. A network security key or password can help protect your network against this type of unauthorized access wireless. Refer to this article for more information:

  • Change the security key on a C4580 all in one printer

I use my C4580 for several weeks now without a problem and has been taking place as a WEP key. However after some problems of network security I improved the security of WPA. Obviously my printer would not connect with these new security settings, so I looked for updating them, however, I see no way to do it. I deleted the printer, drivers and all and reinstalled many times, I downloaded the latest drivers, but whatever I do, he'll never find the printer when searching for it, it's like there is no. I thought that the default reset using the control panel of the printer would work, but remained without effect. Is there a way to adjust these settings, or do a 'true' factory reset to get this printer doesn't work. I can make it work like USB, but this defeats the purpose of haviing a network printer. I can't believe that once security is set is set for life!, but what it seems.

    See you soon

    Neil

Hey thanks for that I have spent many happy evenings frustrated when he said "cannot find the printer", I assumed that because the security key was wrong. I followed the video, ignored, when he says he can't find it, and hey presto, everything works. so simple... Without doubt, I did that when I installed it first, but who was so long ago.

    See you soon
