  After getting the message "your administrator has disabled Teredo locally" my office closes and reboots just to give me the same message when I try to troubleshoot my internet connection. Help!

  3. What antivirus is installed on your computer?

  Teredo is a tunneling protocol designed to grant IPv6 connectivity to nodes that are located behind IPv6 NAT (network address translation) not compatible devices. It is installed by default and allowed so that it remains in standby mode and goes into action only when required. This is usually when you install an application that needs Teredo to work properly. The main problem with Teredo is that it is a bit of rugged work, and if it is switched on unnecessarily, it might slow down your network connection. So, I would suggest trying the following steps and check if the problem persists.

  Method 1: Update the driver for Microsoft Teredo Tunneling adapter:

  a. open the Device Manager by clicking the Start button, click Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager.
  b. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  c. search "Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface" (under network adapters), right-click on it and select Update software driver...
  d. restart the computer and check for the issue.

  If the problem exists, try the next method.

  Method 2:

  We will disable and re-enable IPv6, which should make a difference, like it has helped many users faced with this question:

  Disable IPv6:

  Try to uninstall IPv6 on all interfaces. To remove the IPv6

  1. Click Start and type in the network and sharing Center.
  2. Select LAN.
  3. Go to the properties for each network adapter.
  4. Either, uncheck the box next to the Protocol "Protocol version 6 (TCP/IPv6) Internet, which will disable, or select it and click on uninstall, which will remove off the computer.»
  5. Restart the computer.

  NOTE: You should do this for each network connection.

  Re-enable IPV6:

  Follow steps 1-3 above, and then follow the steps below.

  • Place a check mark or select install and install IPV6.
  • Restart the computer.

  It's extremely likely that you will need to replace the hal.dll and since there are seven files on the XP installation CD that will extend into hal.dll, which would you choose?  It depends on your hardware, but it is extremely likely that the problem (did I already say that?).  I've never had to replace a file hal.dll for this problem.

  The real problem is most likely that XP just can not find the file because of a file system corruption or a file c:\boot.ini afflicted.

  For this error, I would always be first boot from the XP Recovery Console and sometimes run a chkdsk-r that will fix things right to the top.

  If the chkdsk /r is clean and you have the same problem, and then re-create your c:\boot.ini file but rename the old one first so you don't build on top of those afflicted - this tidbit is absent from MS KB article that assumes too.

  You can do all this in the XP Recovery Console, but do go through these methods in this article and see how you go.

  For example, method 1 will not work if your system does not start.  You may have more luck with other "methods".

  If that doesn't work, then I suggest to provide a little more information about your system:

  Since the Microsoft Answers forum does not have any kind of information system request when a new question is asked, we know absolutely nothing about your system.  Not knowing the basic information a problem prolongs the frustration and the agony of these issues.

  Provide information on your system, the better you can:

  What is your system brand and model?

  What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

  Your system have IDE or SATA disks?

  Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc..

  The question was preceded by a loss of power, aborted reboot or abnormal termination?  (this includes the plug pulling, buttons power, remove the battery, etc.)

  The afflicted system has a working CD/DVD (internal or external) drive?

  You have a real installation CD bootable XP which is the same Service Pack as your installed Service Pack? (this is not the same as any recovery CD provided with your system)?

  If the system works, what do you think might have changed since the last time it did not work properly?

  Check to see if the problem exists in Safe Mode, if the computer works as expected in mode without failure, then we can solve the problem in the clean boot state. There is an application which is set to start when you start the computer and which launches the installer of Windows.
