I get an error 'Windows Setup is not responding' when I try to install Service Pack 2 for Windows XP.

Recovery disc to clean the computer.  Discoveries from my software was 2004 I download all 'service pack' and update to restore my computer to where it was.  SP1a downloaded but cannot download SP2.  Now it says "Windows Installer does not" and "run a DLL as an app".  How can I fix without having to pay $ 39.99 for an online business?  There must be a way to solve this problem, so I can use or re - download the "Windows Installer"

original title: used the recovery disk, downloaded SP1, but cannot download sp2 as error "the installer of windows no longer - run a DLL as an app.»  How can I fix it?

You can download the Service Pack, a complete package and install in offline mode.  Since you already SP1A, you can go to SP3 directly, bypassing the SP2.  Ingore the text on the following links which indicate that what follows is for "Professionals" and "Network Installation" and download SP3 from the following link and install it after it downloads.  You can download on another computer if you want to move to your current computer:

XP Service Pack 3:

    I had to do a restore system with xp home edition. Trying to update from sp1 which has been downloaded to the thumb drive and sent to my office at the top of the page. starts to load, and then tells me that the server did not respond. I am connected

    You do not start with a service pack earlier and go to the top. You only download the latest service pack. The latest service pack for Windows XP Home Edition is Service Pack 3.

    Go to Windows Update and see if you can find it there.

    If this isn't the case, then you can manually download it here:

  • I get error Code 80070002 when I try to install Service Pack 1.

    Vista will not be updated to the Service Pack 1 or 2

    I have Vista and have windows automatically updates.  Of course, it is never updated with the Service Pack 1 or 2, and when I go to Windows updates, it says I have no updates available.  Recently I had trouble with my anti-virus software, and they said it was because my computer has not been updated.  I didn't know that I was not common.   However, I get error Code 80070002 when I try to install Service Pack 1, so SP2 cannot be downloaded until I get this one.  I tried everything I could find as an aid, but they were especially when people had problems years ago, when it came out.  What can I do?

    Hi kimber222,

    If these steps are not successful, the next step is and InPlace upgrade. This process is an alternative to reinstalling the operating system. During the process, some of your custom Windows settings may be lost.

    Run a repair installation will restore your current install of Windows to the version of the installtion CD/DVD. You will have to reinstall all the updates that are not included on the CD/DVD.

    Although this process should not damage files and the applications installed on your computer, it is always safe to make sure that you have a recent backup of your data and how to reinstall all software you have installed.

    Fill out the next step for the InPlace upgrade:

    1. Close all open applications.
    2. Insert the Windows Vista CD/DVD intot he computers CD/DVD drive.
    3. In the windows installation program, click install now.

    Note If Windows does not automatically detect the DVD, follow these steps:

    Click on start and type Drive: \setup.exein the box to start the search.

    Note The placeholder drive is the drive letter of the computer's DVD.

    List programs, click Setup.exe.

    In the settings window, click install now.

    1. click on connect to get the latest updates for installation (recommended).

    2. type the CD key if you are prompted to do so.

    3. Select the operating system in the "Windows Installer" page you want to update or Inplace.

    4. click Yesto accept the Microsoft software license agreement.

    5. on the which type of installation you want? of the screen, click upgrade.

    6. when the installation is complete, restart your computer.

  • Why my windows freeze and go does not respond when I try to install the msn photo on hotmail download tool?

    Why my windows freeze and go does not respond when I try to install the msn photo on hotmail download tool?

    The active x bar descends into the small window and freezes all windows open right there and will not respond. This happens when I open a new message and try to attach photos.

    Things I tried but has not made a difference:

    reinstalled IE 8, deleted the history of the browser, disk Cleanup, removed msn photo upload control, optimized IE8

    With xp media center

    PS. This occurs also at any time the information down to install an active x on any site control

    The only way to surf now with frustration is to use IE 8 NOT add optional

    So I fixed that on my own and that's how I did it.

    You must uninstall IE 8 completely which will bring you to IE 7 (in my case) and then install IE 8 via the site updates or microsoft.

    Uninstallin IE 8 by going to:

    Start--->

    Control Panel--->

    Add Remove programs--->

    Scroll down to IE 8--->

    Click on delete.

    IE8 updates must be removed also, if not then click the box 'To see the updates' on the top of the window to scroll down, look for the IE 8 security updates and delete.

    Resart your computer and install IE 8.

    This worked for me and may or may not work for you.
