I get windows cannot verify the updates and error 80070424 and tried repeatedly the solutions suggest you and get always the same cannot verify the icon
error 80070424 message and we tried all of the solutions you propose to the admin. tools and without success
I suspect you got error 0 x 80070005 only because you don't raise invites http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/181765-elevated-command-prompt.html
Even if you are on the standard Vista admin account ever run the console administrator rights. To run the console with admin rights, it requires extra tip (details you have in above links)
My suggestion: just run 'MS Fix it' KB971058 in aggressive mode - it can re-register all WU, modules of BITS and more... If you are lucky it is only conventional option it should solve your problem. If this does not resolve, go to Start > Search > services.msc
and check below services exist, have correct parameters and work
BITS : automatic (extended), began
Windows Update : automatic (extended), began
Windows Modules Installer : manual
If you have an other parameters you have to fix it. If you can't change the setting or any service do not exist, you must fix a service (read below)

It just seems to be a loop.
Hi Linda,.
Thank you for your response.
Here are some steps that you can try in order to solve the problem.
I suggest you to change the startup command sequence and select the hard disk. Then, follow the steps provided by Abdul R and an update with the results.
If you still get the same error message, disable the floppy in BIOS drive and check.
You can see the manual of the system manufacturer or contact the system manufacturer for more information on how to make the changes in the BIOS.
Note: changes to the BIOS/complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.
If the problem persists, or you have questions about Windows, do not hesitate to let us know. We will be happy to help you.

Update Windows Defender KB915597 automatic update and other sources.
It seems that, after each automatic update of Windows Defender on my computer at home another updated appears another update showing about 3 days more later from "another source." It should be? The two definition links are link ID = 52661. All definitions are different and my computer has been updated July 28,2010-July 30, 2010. It has been also updated for the same KB915597 on May 27, 2010 and may 31, 2010. I do not understand why the KB is downloaded several times automatically and also "other source".
TIP: Give your full version of Windows (for example, WinXP SP3;) Windows XP 64 - bit SP2; Vista SP1; Vista 64 - bit SP2; Win7; Win7 64 bit) when you post in a forum or a newsgroup.
Left to itself, Windows Defender will be auto-updated itself twice a week (usually the Monday/Tuesday and Friday/Saturday). These updates are updates "Other Source" you will find listed in the update history.
With Microsoft Update [1] as source of update by default, you will be offered that Defender updates when you run a manual check for updates. Here are the optional updates: If you choose to not install one, Defender will always auto-updated itself by what precedes.
====================================
[1] "what are the differences between Windows updates and automatic updates from Microsoft Updates?"While Windows Update provides updates specifically for Windows, Microsoft Update expands the service to download and install updates for other software from Microsoft, such as Microsoft Office and Windows Live and Silverlight [and Microsoft Security Essentials]. Update automatic is a feature that allows you to configure your PC to automatically download and install updates using each service, making it easy and convenient for you to keep your current Windows PC. Until I save the minutes of meeting on windows Notepad did an update and my data is gone
Is it possible to recover my minutes?
Sorry, but no. If you use Notepad, WordPad, Word, or a program, if you want to build something of length, after start click on file | Save under Save somewhere continue typing and after each few lines or a paragraph, Ctrl + S will save the new content. If something like this happens, you lose only what was typed after the last Ctrl + S. -
My KEY will not work for both windows 7 32-bit update and 64-bit version?
I have two, a copy and a key for the upgrade to Windows 7, 32-bit and 64-bit. (Key separately for each version, purchased about 6 months apart.)
The computer that is running the 32-bit version had a hard drive failure. After replacing the hard drive, I decided to install 64-bit on this computer using the key provided with the 32-bit version.
I was led to believe that the key is not related to the 64 or 32 bit version and that it could be used for both, but only installed at the moment.
After getting to step to enter the key, using the key provided with the 32-bit version, he couldn't say invalid key. After several attempts and checking of typo, it's a no go.
So, I went and started around and installed the 32 bit version and the key worked fine.
So the key provided with the 32-bit version of 'upgrade' tied to only this version? Every search I do, says that you can use the key for 32 or 64 bit. They never mention the version "upgrade" is different from the "full" version
Thanks for any info,
SDM
Because it is an upgrade version.
However, the requirements for the media upgrade is that you have an operating system already eligible such as Windows XP or Vista installed to use it. Since the Windows 7 end user license agreement.
15 UPDATES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for the software that is eligible for the upgrade. After the upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software that you upgraded. After upgrade, you can no longer use the software that you upgraded.
So, if you are always denied, you will just have to reinstall Windows XP or Vista and let it do the verification of eligibility.
So using phone activation is the work around:
How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)
1) click Start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4
(2) press the ENTER"" key.
(3) select your "country" in the list.
(4) choose the option "activate phone".
(5) stay on the phone (do not select/press all options) and wait for a person to help you with the activation.
(6) explain your problem clearly to the support person.

my screen "activate windows" shows only the icons how I get it without alteration?
I try to activate my Windows xp. When I click on the windows icon to turn on the screen that appears has no readable text and only icons that are displayed when you do not have the software to open the file. How can I get this problem fixed so that I can activate the software?
Everything that happens often because of an installation damaged Internet Explorer - try to reinstall IE8 (assuming that it is already installed)
