  My computer has a virus called Windows Vista repair through a Trojan horse.  (I'm under Vista Home Premium).  I was able to remove the virus but can't with programs and documents.  They do not appear when I click the Start button, but I can find them if I run a search for them.  They are on the drive hard, but not associated.  How should I do so that I see my programs when I click the button start and see my documents when I open documents in the start menu?

  If you did a clean install of Windows, you must reinstall the drivers for your hardware.  This includes drivers for sound, video, network and perhaps others.  Visit the website of the manufacturer of your laptop and enter the necessary information to identify your laptop (Dell Service number, product HP number).  You can search and download the driver package for your laptop and install it following the instructions on the download page.

  I solved it myself. The password I mentioned, the serial number that I had typed in a word processor and did a cut & paste in PSE11. After trying to do this several times without success, I found the old e-mail to confirm the serial number and found that my typing was in error, I had transposed 2 letters. I now have the right # and it works very well.

  Our computer was initially using Windows XP. After a few problems which included the same office not loading, we have reformatted it and used Windows Vista Basic Home Edition because the CD with our Dell Inspiron 6000 had compatible drivers for Vista. Now the problem is 30 days elapsed is activation thing and now my computer is in reduced functionality mode (I had no idea it would happen). Windows does not accept the product key for XP. What should I do now?

  You need a valid product key for Vista - Vista product you purchased should have (but it seems that you did not actually buy a Vista product for the PC).  If you used a Vista CD from another computer that doesn't have that Vista is installed, you cannot use this product key the key can be used on one computer at a time.  You need to buy a disc of Installation of Vista with a product key (or just a product key valid).  Frankly, I don't know where you can get one of those these days.  Microsoft Store is not wearing it.

  The only other choice is to reinstall XP. Contact the manufacturer and they may be able to sell the recovery disc for a small fee and you can use those with the product key of Xp on the computer to restore the conditions of the factory as a Xp computer.

  Sorry we can not help you more, but these are the options.  You can try searching Google and Bing for people selling copies of Vista (but don't forget that they are copies of the retail and not OEM copies - or even with the product key they selll you you will not be able to activate because and OEM license is only good on the computer on which the software has been installed initially and cannot be transferred to any other computer).

  After update for drivers AMD 13.1 on my 5770, Firefox will not launch; It doesn't, however, appears in the Task Manager. I want to emphasize that it will boot into Windows safe mode; When I opened it in safe mode, I used this time to deactivate all plugins, modules, extensions and created a new profile. I counted, there are 14 sites listed in preferences > privacy > pane show Cookies (no pun intended) and they are all sites of "ad". These sites are also listed as sites blocked in Adblock Plus. Until a person pick up, I give up, I don't know what else to do. The only thing I did is removed altogether-profile file. It's the last thing I want to do, unless I can save my favorites somewhere to return after reinstalling. The first two attempts, I thought had not displayed. Today, there are all the posts with the same problem.   I saw the 0x0000007B BSOD caused by trying to install XP on a disk hard while the BIOS is designating the reader as AHCI instead of IDE. XP has no native AHCI drivers, resulting in a stop 7B. Unless the PC had originally Vista or Win 7, but it might be useful to check that it is not likely.

  If the BIOS is set to AHCI, you could do one of three things (depending on whether your PC has a floppy drive)...

  1 find the Setup F6 disk on AHCI support at installation time (start with the manufacturer's website if you do not already have such a thing). Watch the very hit F6 prompt early in the installation process.

  2. change the setting in BIOS on IDE / ATA

  3. create a new "slipstreaming" installation disc drivers AHCI in the existing installation disc, see http://www.nliteos.com/index.html

  I added the updates one at a time and then restarted each time.  Between each update, I also tested the scanning interface.  At the time where all updates have been added to the scan function still worked.  My guess is that the order of installation, or (more likely) the obligation to reboot between updates made the difference.  I still have my wife updated so will update this when I do the update.  Either way, I remember when I went from XP to Win7 in 2010 I had the same error, but that has been resolved by the HP driver updates.
