I have 2 computers but cannot view shared files on a computer on the network.

Help, please.
Two computers running Windows XP home. Main computer can view files shared on the second. But the second computer has only its files shared in my network places. When I click View workplace computers, both computers are displayed, but when I try to open the main computer it says:

"\\Supercomputer is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource, contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission.
"Failed to connect to the user never would have been granted the type of logon required on this computer.

I can't view a computers shared main folder on the second computer. But they can see and can ping each other.

I use a Linksys WRT110 router. Main computer is connected through an Ethernet cable. Second computer is wireless. Two firewall is disabled. Someone please help. I am new to play with a network but I have intermediate level in computer science. I've searched and searched and found nothing working again. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Joel

Run on the supercomputer network configuration wizard.  If this doesn't fix the problem:

1. download and install the Tools of the Windows 2003 Server Resource Kit .

2. click on Start > all programs > Windows Resource Kit Tools > Shell .

3. type these lines at the command prompt, exactly as shown:

Suddenly, my network has gone from wack-o!

I cannot view shared resources (disks, folders) on the 7 machine Windows XP machine, but can view shared resources on Windows 7 machine from XP machine?

    Machine error message Windows 7:

    What is going on?

Your general statement "Windows 7 has problems to access shared resources on XP" is incorrect. Yes, you have problems, but I have and none of my clients, amounts of problems to access the resources on XP Windows 7 boxes boxes. If something has changed in your situation, even if you don't think he has. It is very difficult to solve network problems without being on-site, but your error message does not indicate a problem with the username/password accounts, permissions or misconfigured firewall. All I can do is give you my usual network troubleshooting steps and you suggest to go through them. Also given that the problem comes from the XP box, troubleshooting of small network of Hans-Georg Michna MVP might help.

http://winhlp.com/wxnet.htm - small troubleshooting network by Hans-Georg Michna

Problems sharing files between computers on a network are usually caused by 1) a misconfigured firewall or a firewall neglected (including a dynamic firewall in a virtual private network); or (2) inadvertently run two firewalls such as the firewall of Windows and a third-party firewall. and/or (3) do not have accounts to the same users and passwords on all computers in the workgroup. (4) tries to create actions where the operating system does not.

In Windows 7, go to control panel > everything in Control Panel > network and sharing Center. Click on "change the advanced sharing settings. You don't want to use the residential group unless you have all Windows 7 machines. If you do and you want to use the homegroup, see Windows 7 Help & Support. Otherwise, in sharing advanced:

Discovery of plug in the network
Open the files and printers sharing
Turn on the sharing section Public folder sharing
    Plug the password protected sharing

    A. configure the firewall on all machines to allow traffic to local area network (LAN) as being approved. With the Windows Firewall, turning on window file sharing and printer as the above will take care of that for you. If you are not running a third-party firewall or you have an antivirus/security with its own firewall component program, then you're fine.  With a third-party firewall, I usually set up the allocation of LAN with an IP address range. E.g. would be 192.168.1.0 - 192.168.1.254. Obviously you would substitute your correct subnet. Refer to the safety of any third party program or the user forums for how to correctly configure its firewall. Do not run more than one firewall. DON'T STOP FIREWALLS; CONFIGURE THEM CORRECTLY.

    (B) to facilitate the Organization, put all computers in the same workgroup. This is done from the System applet in Control Panel, the computer name tab.

    C. create the counterpart of the user accounts and passwords on all machines. You do not need to be logged into the same account on all machines and assigned to each user account passwords can be different; accounts/passwords just need to exist and to match on all machines. DO NOT NEGLECT TO CREATE PASSWORDS, EVEN IF ONLY OF SIMPLE. If you want a machine to boot directly to the desktop (a particular user account) for convenience, you can do this:

Start > Search box > type: netplwiz [Enter]
Click continue (or provide an administrator password) when you are prompted by UAC

Uncheck "users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Select a user account to connect automatically by clicking on the account you want to highlight and press OK. Enter the password for this user account (when it exists) when you are prompted. Leave blank if there is no password (null).

XP - set up Windows to automatically connect (MVP Ramesh) - http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Autologon.htm

    D. Si one or more of the computers on your network are XP Pro or Media Center, turn off Simple file sharing (Folder Options > view tab).

    E. create share as you wish. In Windows 7 I usually share the Desktop of the user and the Public directory. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • Have administrator rights, but cannot save a file in a folder

If I'm the administrator, why my computer told me that I need administrative rights in order to save a file in a folder?

C: \ program File (x 86).  There is no one else on this computer; It's my phone.

Is not serious if there is no one else physically on your system, Windows is still a multi-user operating system.  You can be * a * administrator, but it is unlikely that you are * the * administrator and even if you were, C:\Program Files (x 86)-is a protected system directory (the directory Program Files 32-bit on your system to Windows 7 64-bit.)

If the files that you try to save files that you deploy, keep them in better places (like your documents).  If you try to copy a program/application directory here because it is logical that she's here - grant administrative rights to move things in place on the single basis.

  • Cannot open PDF files on surface tablet on the network.

As the title suggests, our shelves are not on the field but can connect to our wireless staff and through our portal to access their network drives. When you select a PDF file in this way, it opens and asks you to choose an application on the tablet to open it with. I can't find Adobe Reader in option - although I put it as default program for the file type in the control panel.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

    Concerning

    Scott

It seems that this is indeed a problem with our cisco portal based and his inability to manage the long filenames correctly - it renames them and creates a temporary file, which is throwing the drive when trying to read them. Hope this is perhaps out of use to someone.

I have an account but cannot modify/use the tools.  I went from computers a week ago.  Help, please.

It should not, but you will need to download the right software to use. Adobe Acrobat Reader is what you are currently using. This is why you don't have the tools you are used to.

Adobe Acrobat (not Reader), that's what you signed up for. He has the tools, you need and are a completely different, even if application you may have initially subscribed by using Adobe Acrobat Reader.

  • Acrobat Pro DC just installed, but cannot save a PDF at all - except that the screen is blank

I just installed Acrobat Pro DC on my work computer and my ' Save as ' and 'Save' functions do not work.  Save as screen is empty and save made up a dialog saying that he cannot save any file (various reasons according to the file).

I tried to repair the installation, then tried/re-installing but nothing has changed.  Help!

  • Set up a home network on a Vista computer. Added my XP computer on the network. I can go on the internet but the signal strength is 'very low' 98% of the time.

I used a d-link WBR-1310 Wireless G router to set up the network on my Vista computer.  On my XP computer, I used an adapter G USB 2.0 Wireless d-link WUA-1340.  Both computers are single room apart and most of the time, the doors are open, so there is no major obstacle to interfere with the signal.  This is my first experience on the implementation of a network and I must admit I was a little unsure of myself.  I don't know if I have some incorrect settings or if the problem may be something else.  It is a WEP secure network but I don't think that's the problem.  My XP computer on the network automatically signs as soon as it starts.  I am trying to download the LLTP from Microsoft on my XP machine, but I don't know if this could be the problem.  I've been struggling with this problem for almost 4 weeks and I'm getting very frustrated.

PLEASE, I WELCOME ANYONE WITH AN IDEA OF WHAT I HAVE DONE WRONG, TO ANSWER!

I'm sorry, but I read your post and I do not understand what the problem is you want to solve.  Is something that does not properly?  If so, please give us the details: what you're trying to do, what happens when you do that, the text of the error messages, etc.

  • My TV screen works as a monitor, but I can't turn on my computer with the fact that it is my first choice

    Hey!

I recently tried to hook up my TV to my office to use as a monitor, and it works! It's a VIZIO HDTV but I can not get the HDMI cable to fit all, so I'm just using a VGA cable!

Graphics card is a Radeon 5800 series.

My problem is that when my computer is turned off and the TV is plugged in, I can't get a good picture when I turn it on. The resolution is just terrible, far too zoomed in.

The only way I can get the TV to work, is if I turn on my computer with the trendy first regular computer monitor and then pass the cable VGA to TV.

I have to do this every single time to use my computer to the TV.

My friend can just start sound with TV connected without any problem. I'm not sure why I can't.
