Ive tried to download said file but get then stopped in my tracks by an another prob, saying: "this file has no program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Association contrl Panel set"How do the __ I do that I am only a layman. HELP, SAM

It seems to me that you try to install a program that is not compatible with Vista.  What program is (and which version)?  You can check for the compatibility of the Vista Compatibility Center program at the: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-vista/default.aspx.  You cannot create an association to a .dll file - this is an error message saying basically that you can not use the copied file to do what you wanted to do (because it is not included in Vista while it was probably included with the other previous operating systems of Windows).  It is an obsolete file and if this is required for the program to run then you probably will not be able to run this program under Vista.

You can try running it in compatibility http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-compatibility-mode/ mode but I don't think it will work if the file is not located anywhere in the system (as seems to be the case), and the file is required to run the program.

Sorry for the bad news, but see the program in the Compatibility Center and if it is compatible then we should be able to find a way to make it work despite this file problem.  If it's not compatible, then you have your answer.  Is it is not listed, then it is unknown, but maybe if it's probably not compatible.

Good luck and I hope this has helped. Lorien - a - MCSE/MCSA/network + / A +.
