  You may have a problem with an extension or plugin that obstructs normal behavior of your Firefox. Have you tried to disable all add-ons (just to see) to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

  Have some difficulty in computer science. After some corrections, I couldn't connect to the internet through Firefox. In the window "Manage search engines", I have more preloaded search engines. I can download one as an add-on, but I don't want to fish through all the different out there. I want to just research that Firefox has preloaded. Is there a way to re-download and install these search providers to the toolbar without remove it, and then reinstall Firefox? Can I be sent the links for these specific modules "which must be preloaded" to add them manually?

  You still have the default search engines xml files in the searchplugins folder in the Firefox program folder?

  If this isn't the case, then you need to reinstall Firefox.

  I have two yahoo search engines, appearing in the search box menu. One is Yahoo and the other is Yahoo! (with the brand of the explanation). It seems that Yahoo! has hijacked my browser as I am unable to remove it by using the search engine option to manage. Although it seems to be removed, when I close Firefox, I get a message indicating that a blocked program its withdrawal. Please tell me what I need to do to remove this fake search engine as it redirects me to what seems to be legitimate pages Yahoo saying the words I never typed cannot be found.   I think that I fixed it by running malawarebytes. AVG has been remove search protect but it came back. has run malawarebytes and it seems to have disappeared.

  1. Move the mouse cursor inside the search box in top right of the Firefox window and click on the arrow next to the logo of the supplier.
  2. If you want to select another search engine, simply choose the engine in the drop-down list.

  To change the order of search engines, follow these steps:

  1. In the drop-down list, select Manage search engines....
  2. In the next window, you have all your search engines listed. To change the order, simply click on a search engine, and then select move up or move down from the buttons on the right side to change the order of search engines.

  I have a few search engines in the search bar of firefox. I find it extremely annoying that whenever I have change the search engine, that it stays like this, even after restarting firefox. Is there an add-on that would go to the one who is at the top of the list (which is my default for search engine being both navigation bar) whenever I restart the browser?

  Let me give you an example: I use duckduckgo as a search engine by default in the search bar and navigation bar. Let's say I need to find a definition for which I use the wikipedia search engine. Then I go to wikipedia one. I disable the browser the next time I start firefox search engine that appears in the search bar is wikipedia and I would have preferred it to be duckduckgo.

  Easier is to put the default engine for search engine preferred via the user.js file in the Firefox profile folder by copying the line user_pref() related to this file.

  The user.js file is read whenever Firefox is started and initializes the preferences to the specified value in this file, so the preferences set via user.js can be changed temporarily for the current session.

  You can search the topic: config page for browser.search. to locate the pref (s) you need.

  You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder currently in use:

  • Use a text editor such as Notepad to create a file user.js (new) in this folder (the names are case-sensitive)
  • Make sure that you select "All files" and not "text files" when you save the file via "save file as" in the text editor as user.js

  To uninstall any extension, select it and click the "Uninstall" button

  Hi, one day, my search engine (just the default - google) went from my field next to the address bar search engine in firefox.

  If I click on the drop-down button and go "search engines", there is nothing listed in there, and the 'restore defaults' button is grayed.

  I uninstalled FF and deleted the profile directory, but still when I reinstall there is still no search engines...

  I tried to delete the search.sqllite file in the profile and it does not help (of course - delete of the whole profile does not work).
