But I have refused to upgrade firefox due to having to give up screen grab which I love too much to do it, so have stayed with  older version.

  Sometimes the registry entry of Firefox which is read by the control panel to create the list in Add/Remove programs is not updated correctly. It could get resolved in the next update (Firefox 32) in a few weeks. I wouldn't worry about it right now too long only you see a single folder with "Mozilla Firefox" in the name here:

  Yes, but you have said that everything was  Come on, one could easily assume you meant everything but a connection to a wireless access point.  Never, you said that you were using a wireless connection, so that would not naturally be taken as part of anything else seen the way you described the problem.  * smile *.
  If it is purely aesthetic, you have two choices...
  (1) leave that would be.  To try to correct the cosmetic would actually damage something.
  (2) get the latest and the greatest drivers and full software for your network hardware manually by visiting the individual web pages for manufacturers and selecting the proper drivers, based on the model and operating system.  Uninstall all network components.  Restart so they reinstall.  Then, install the latest version that you downloaded.  Clear all memory networks and reconnect.  If this fails, consider using SFC/scannow.
  The second may or may not fix the problem.  The first works as it does now.  :-)

  I see that you get a connection error when you try to connect to iCloud after that your Mac has been asleep.  I know this may sound like a simple troubleshooting step, but I suggest first that you restart the computer and see if the problem persists.
