I imported the messages from Outlook Express 6 to Windows Mail, but the messages do not appear in the storage folder. What I am doing wrong?

I see the process of imported messages. He created and "Imported folder", but there is nothing in it.

See www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#wm there are specific directions he with a lot of hoops to make it work, because it is very buggy.  Also, make sure that the folder that you tried to import does have messages inside (you can open the file with Notepad dbx and looking for something readable or zip it and if it zips down to nothing, so full of nothing).

  • messages disappeared from Outlook Express 6 (Inbox) e-mail account

I was using OE6 and when an Email has been recd in the Inbox without attachment, but with a picture of my Club, I tried to remove it, but IE6 has been suspended. I then tried to close IE6, and it showed that the Inbox did NOT. There was also a pop up screen with a msg at the end of the program. As this screen kept popping up, I continued to press END. Then all emails in the Inbox after the 21/12/2008 simply disappeared. I have no older messages from 2005 until 2008-12-20, but all messages of the 20/12/2008 until 11/09/2011 disappeared. When I open Windows Explorer and checked the storage folder

C:\Documents and Settings Application Data Data\Identities\ {87D00F43-308F-4F5C-B61A-E86A09D4A4A2} \Microsoft\Outlook Express, local owner

I think Inbox.dbx watch 1.52 GB and DeletedItems.dbx but the OE6 102DB shows NONE of these msgs.

Where they could hide and how to recover the same which should appear in OE6?

Its quite likely that the files got filled with zeros where were the messages.  Often happens when users leave their files get above a few hundred megabytes.  Your 1.52 gigabyte file was a disaster time.

You can check that recycle it the locker and the message store bak files that are backups of dbx files you want to restore, as appropriate.  See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#2 and www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#imp1 .  If there is no bak file then your only option is to try to extract the messages from files (which may not contain anything except zeroes--you can try zipping them and if they zip down to nothing, it's what is in the file), or if they are no longer in the files then DBXpress has an exclusive excerpt from disc feature that could get back them (www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/) hard disk directly.

In the future, it makes sense to keep the size of dbx files below a few hundred megabytes and backup frequently as this happens to OE users on a daily basis.

  • Use Outlook Express (XP) and Windows Mail (Vista) at the same time.

Can I have my mail sent to both Outlook Express on my PC and Windows Mail on my laptop?
How to import mail from my XP computer on the Vista laptop?

None of this is related to the Windows 7 forum. However:

A: If both computers use the same e-mail address, on both machines:

Tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties | Advanced - Check: leave a copy of messages on the server.

On a single computer only, make sure to delete messages after X days to satisfy your allocated space that you get from your server.

  • Windows XP SP3 - Outlook Express receives and sends mail but do not delete received messages. Can you help?

Windows XP SP3 - Outlook Express receives and sends messages, but do not delete received messages.  Can you help?

You have corruption of dbx files.

Spend most of your messages out of the Inbox and move the messages you want to record off deleted items, and sent items. Locate the OE message store and then close OE.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

With OE closed, find the Deleted Items.dbx and Sent Items.dbx files and delete them. New files will be created automatically when you open OE.

Compact all folders as described below.

To avoid this in the future:

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

Information on the maximum size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/?kbid=903095

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the processors and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:

  • in the Table of contents, my photos are not displayed, can you tell me what I am doing wrong?

I am writing an iBook on a Mac Book Pro of the retina, and when I go to see the table of contents it shows no picture... so I do something wrong, or not do something, everyone knows what this might be? Here you have a Table of contents on iBook author image. It is said that there are 5 chapters and Chapter 3 marking and it should show the main image of this chapter and down a row of thumbnails of all pages of this chapter. Nothing shows... I'd appreciate any info to solve this problem. Thank you.

    Quack quack.

the thumbnails do not appear when you look at the table of contents to the author of the ib.  You must create the .ibooks file, do a preview for mac, and open it with the ibooks software and you will see knock thumbnails view or put your book on a iPad and if switch you to the comparable iPad display, thumbnails will be visible there.

In addition, you must file an image file in the placeholder, which will be visible on each index type toc page, yes a picture shown throughout the book.
