I installed windows 2000 on a virtual machine on a different computer than windows xp.

I installed Windows 2000 on a virtual machine to another Windows XP computer. I'm under the it on my new computer with Windows xp. I get the icon in the bar lower right spots showing an internet connection but no Internet Explorer or Firefox will have access to the internet? In the Device Manager on Windows 2000, it shows a map network intel but on the computer Windows Xp host computer and in the "settings" on the Windows 2000 installation it shows my Realtek card. Is the adapter intel a virtual card? I tried to uninstall the Intel card and then install the Realtek but Windows 2000 installation does not see the Realtek card. On a restart, the Intel card is reinstalled.
Am I a fight lost because I did the first Windows 2000 install on another computer in Windows XP?

Hi MrRobHill1965,

Given that the problem is related to the virtual machine, I suggest that you post your question on the forums of Virtual PC listed below.

  • How to install vmware tools in a virtual machine running in the drive on an Ubuntu host?

I have a host of Ubuntu (Ubuntu LTS 14.04.2)

I have a virtual of Fedora (4.0.4 - 301.fc22.x86_64) and I would like to install vmware tools in the virtual machine.

When I select the player VirtualMachine-> reinstall VMware Tools...

I get a prompt in a box on the screen.  It is said:

The following software are available for download:

VMware Tools for Linux version 9.9.3

    What do you do?

X Cancel |  Download and install

Of course I choose to download and install (kind of silly question - why I want to cancel?)

So instead of download the tools I want to install, it says:

Your permission is required to install an update to VMware.

Please enter the root password to move forward.

    Password: __________

not serious.  Now, he's looking for what root password?  The virtual machine or the host?

I have try the virtual machine and it works-not "incorrect password... try again."

... well Ubuntu is not a root user.  So, I try the password for the user with root privileges

    "incorrect password... try again."

    Then, he does not.

    Not very satisfying.

The instructions that I found in my research right you will say to take the step to obtain the Tools package then (well, nothing of the rest of it is important if the tools are not available to me).

    Suggestions?  Advice?

The required password is for the host.

A workaround of functions is "sudo su -" of ubuntu host, then start vmplayer from the root prompt.  You must browse the virtual machine since the user doesn't have a history of openness yet... but then there is no prompt asking for a password when you try to download the tools.

  • VMware Workstation is unable to open one of the virtual disks required by this virtual machine because it is larger than the maximum file size supported by the host file system.

I'm transitioning from Windows XP (64-bit) on a new computer with Windows 7 installed.  I undertook to VMWare Workstation 6 7.0.1 in the process.  The problem is with a very large RAID 5 volume on the new system.  It's a score of 5.45 TB (TPG and NTFS).

When I try to start a virtual machine on this volume, I get the message "VMware Workstation cannot open one of the virtual disks required by this virtual machine because it is larger than the maximum size of the files supported by the host file system.".  This is obviously not true.  If I copy the virtual machine to another drive on the system, it starts without a problem.

Anyone have any ideas on how to work around this problem?

try to add this line in the vmx file:

    diskLib.sparseMaxFileSizeCheck = "false".

    Maybe it helps.

    VMDK-type do you use?

monolithicSparse? -C' is the only part type more?

  • How to move a virtual machine to a different data store, preserving its ID

I would like to move a virtual machine to a different data store.

Because I use 3rd party software that identifies a virtual machine by its ID of VirtualCenter, I'd like to preserve the ID, and I also want to preserve the name of the virtual computer.

If I clone the virtual machine, I lose the ID and name.

I can clone a second time to restore the name, but the ID is always false.

I know that I can use vmkfstools-i to copy the entire disk.

Is it possible to copy the entire VM?

    I am currently on ESX 3.0.2/VC 2.0.2

The operation that I describe is available in 3.5.x/VC ESX 2.5.x

    TIA,

    -Magister

Don't use EVER of CP to copy a VM, VMDK move/copy should be used in conjunction with vmkfstools as best practice.

    OP,

You can manually make a copy using the CLI interface or use the VI Client and browse the data store and to copy and paste in the appropriate data and as suggested Andre store, when you switch on for the first time, you should say 'keep' when asked if you want to update the virtual machine UUID.

Another thing, you could do, is if you've enabled for vMotion, you can actually use Storage vMotion which will migrate directly from your virtual machine to a different data store, it's less effort on your side and you can count on Andrew Kutz sVMotion plugin: http://sourceforge.net/projects/vip-svmotion/

  • I need to install antivirus software on a virtual machine if I only use vm to a printer driver only for windows?

    Hi all

Searched for an answer via Google and there, qualification so far found no.

I am currently set up with Fusion 3.0.1/XP Pro on an iMac / Snow Leopard.  The only reason I use the merge on this machine is as follows.  We have a Sony SnapLab Pro UP_CR20L digital photo printer for our personal use.  Brief history on printer: these printers are sold on the commercial aspect of the site of Sony, generally used in kiosk, sales retail store settings.  Sony has provided only a Windows printer driver for this printer, so my need to use Fusion to print from my computer on the SnapLab.

That being said, I don't want to use the virtual machine for anything other than this one function: printing photos to my photo on the side of Mac through XP for the printer folder.  No internet on the side navigation XP. Period.

Can anyone offer upward not reasons to play with headaches run the anti-virus on the virtual machine software?

    Thank you all ~

NONE.  Windows is not also subject to security as everyone seems to think.

Firstly, Windows is that ALTHOUGH the user.  If you use this VM, and you surf the NET and download files, the USER is the reason Windows crashes, not Windows.

Windows makes it EASY because you are an administrator rather than forcing users to degenerate into a user Admin Linux by default.

So if you install Windows 2008 or Windows 7 leave the enabled user access mode, do not put the user Admins member and you will have NO problem.

    So no, YOU can't BC

  • Uninstall Windows and install in the Virtual Machine on the same computer

I have an old Dell computer that ALLOWS you to have Windows XP Professional is installed. I have installed on it now Ubuntu (Linux) and Windows XP has disappeared. The computer came with Windows XP Professional installed when I got it. However, I still have the installation disc. My question is, would it not possible or legal to use the installation disc to install Windows XP Professional on a VM on the computer even though I still have the product key?

    Hello

This is legal, Yes, the question is: 'is possible', and depends on every time that you have a Windows XP OEM key or not, if that is the case, then you can install it, but you can activate ever, the key can be used only once by the motherboard (VM motherboard change). If its if retail is key then its no problem at all.

The sticker will tell you this. If it says or OEM and the OEM COA. otherwise its so retail in most cases.

    It may be useful

  • How to install VMplayer 3 network for virtual machines to comminicate with each other?

    People,

    Hello. I use VMPlayer 3.

    SE host: Windows 7
Comments to: Windows XP and Oracle Linux 5

I need to set up the network and activate Windows XP communicate with Oracle Linux 5.

I followed this tutorial http://www.vmware.com/support/ws5/doc/ws_devices_serial_2vms.html to configure 2 virtual machines in Windows 7 host machine.

I tried to test 2 virtual machines in the way as below:

    In Linux, [user@localhost ~] $ping WindowsXP_HostName
    Release: Unknown host WindowsXP_HostName

At the Windows XP command prompt:
    C:\ping localhost.localdomain
Its release: ping localhost 127.0.0.1 with 32 bytes of data...
    Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes = 32 time = 2ms TTL = 128

He meets a few times and then disconnected by itself. It seems that Windows XP is ping itself and not Linux server. The host name of the Linux server is 'localhost' as well. It is a kind of confusion for me.

From the information above, we can see that 2 VMs cannot connect between them.

Can any folk provides a tutorial or example or case study to set VMPlayer 3 allowing 2 virtual machines communicate with each other by step?

    Very grateful in advance.

In the guest machine, all I see is click on VMplayer-> VM-> settings-> network-> Network adapter Connection-> select Bridged: directly connected to the physical network. After that, nothing to keep.

That's it for the network card in Virtual Machine of its parameters, and the rest is done to each guest at the guest OS level.

In Windows 7 host machine, I don't see anything first.

What we need to do is to assign 3 IP addresses to 3 machines: Win 7, Win XP Guest and Linux host.

Why the world can't bring you up Google in a browser and type, the ip static windows xp, then static ip rhea of windows 7 and finally static ip.  As I have already said there are more then enough tutorials on the Internet about how to configure a static IP address by a given operating system then I suggest you Google it!  It makes absolutely no sense to write the instructions step by step for you when there are already dozens of tutorials available on the internet.

  • How to install the software on a virtual machine?

Hi, I'm new to the virtual machines.  I have a physical server running windows 7 pro 32 bit, and I set up a virtual machine running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit only.  I created so I can run MS Exchange Server 64.  I have a .iso for Exchange Server file, but I can't figure how to get it in the virtual machine.  Please explain or direct me to a good tutorial, thank you.

In this case, either use the "shared folders" feature or share the folder on the host computer with files and map it as a network drive in the comments.

Another option - although that do not know if it works in VMware Server - is to drag & drop the files from the host to the virtual computer.

  • Is it possible to install Vmware converter in a virtual machine?

    Hello

I would like to know if its possible to install VMware converter in one machine virtual host Xen (WinXP)? We must find a way to convert a Xen virtual machine and import it into an ESX environment. So my first plan was to mount a hard drive of the virtual machine Xen host and install VMware converter.

Unless there is an easier way to do it.

    Appreciate any feedback...

    Thank you.

    Hi Jakepp,

You can use VMware Converter to transform your XEN VM for VMware. You can take a look at the following kb to confirm:

  • Unistalling ESXi & install ESX, what of my virtual machines?

    Hi all

I think unistalling vSphereHypervisor (ESXi 4.1) and installing vsphere (ESX 4.1) on my home server.

How to preserve my 8 VMs or backup them?

In addition, I will win by opting for ESX 4.1?

At this point, the difference between 4.1 ESX and ESXi 4.1 shrinks, for what you can do through administrative tasks. Get the unit of MAS, and you have more features. With the new ability to remote SSH on ESXi 4.1, you win a lot of what ESX 4.x used to bring to the table (by itself without the need to modify a file of confd ESXi 4)...

So unless you have tools/software that works only in ESX 4.1, I wouldn't wipe and install ESX 4.1... Firstly, you'll need to do the reverse, when you want to go to the next version. On the other hand, most third party tools have been updated to ESXi 4.1, are being updated, or will be before too long. At least those who actually want to keep their customers running VMware products.

I moved my VM to a SAN/NAS in my lab at home. It is very handy when I want to update the host, since I can have run them on a temporary host (a good system, using ESXi 4.1 installed on a USB key). Finally, I have at least two hosts in my lab running 24 x 7 so that I can more easily update things. In addition, it will allow me to run several virtual machines at the same time.

  • How to install VMware Tools on multiple virtual machines

This weekend, I'll upgrade my environment at 3.5 update 4 and, in doing so, I need to upgrade all of the vmware tools install and am looking for a way to do it without connect to each virtual machine.  I found some posts that are not too encouraging (upgrade to vShere and via updatemanager or change the settting on the virtual machine to check an update of tools when it boot) I was looking for a script or something that's not going to be too demanding.

    Thank you

You can select a group of virtual machines, right-click and choose Install/Upgrade VMware Tools.  Make sure the automatic upgrade of the tools is selected, and who should do it.
