  OK - I feel really stupid, and after several hours of trying to fix it myself I feel even more stupid.

  A couple of days, I decided to remove some programs on my computer that it seemed that I didn't need. I deleted 2 or 3 - everything the computer I said "rarely used".   Every time that Windows XP is installed on a system, it creates a default account called "Administrator" and by default, this account is not protected by Word. Then try to connect using the empty password in safe mode and check.
