I lost my code in Windows 8

Hi, I tried to dual boot Ubuntu with Windows 8, but when I installed Ubuntu Windows 8 would not start. If I ever go back to Windows 7 and since the copy was a gift and I had to write my code on my PC with Notepad and since has been deleted I can not access my code. I need some advice, what could I do?

NOTE: I have the digital version of Windows 8.

Contact the gift donor, they should have the key and copy of their order of product of Windows 8.
