I lost my files forever?

Hello

Basically, I wanted to create a movie with photos and videos of my summer in New York City on Windows Movie Maker. I put all the various video clips and images in the video, saved from the entire project and then transferred to dropbox. I recently did a factory reset on this PC, delete all the files on my PC, assuming that there would be no problem retrieving my files using Movie Maker external later on using the drop box.

I can receive the project, however, I'm now fearing the worst I lost my files forever. When I open the project, I get a warning telling me that "the file is missing", and each of the individual clips have a yellow warning sign next to them.

Y at - it sort of anyone to receive the files back - after all, that they were all rescued on the Movie Maker program.

Thank you very much

Kyle

Hello

I don't know if I understand, but you will actually need to download DropBox files on your machine to access with MovieMaker...

You'll probably also have to place in the same location\filename as before or Moviemaker won't find them... You may be able to redirect Moviemaker to the new location, but you may need to do this for each file... I have not actually used MovieMaker long, so I can't say for sure...

I have some programs that you can the redirect to a new folder in project only once, and they're going to get the rest of the files. I have also some programs you need to navigate to the new location for each file... Quite a pain really

Restoring to factory settings formats the disc, and which erases
everything what he. You probably get something new, but you can
try to do a search on the web for a recovery program that unformats the reader
    like here: http://www.easeus.com/resource/unformat.htm

If you unformat the drive successfully and can recover lost files
back, the first thing you should do copy on an external
(CD, DVD, USB sticks, external hard drives, etc.).
    Two other points/questions:

    1. why restore you to the factory settings? This is usually the worst
approach to solve a problem, there's a lot of extra long hard
work and often leads to problems of its own (as it did here).

    2. I assume you have no backup on external media from your
photos of important files etc. In this case. you played with
the fire. You can read this article on the backup that I wrote:

    Recovery tools:

If you use XP/SP2 or SP3, and are fully patched, then you should have a backup of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin (or possibly the message store), copied as bak files.

To restore a folder bak on the message store folder, first find the location of the message store.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, the .dbx files are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in the Solution Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder options | View.

Close OE and in Windows Explorer, click on the dbx to the file missing or empty file, then drag it to the desktop. It can be deleted later once you have successfully restored the bak file. Minimize the message store.

Open OE and, if the folder is missing, create a folder with the * exact * same name as the bak file you want to restore but without the .bak. For example: If the file is Saved.bak, the new folder should be named saved. Open the new folder, and then close OE. If the folder is there, but just empty, continue to the next step.

First of all, check if there is a bak file already in the message. If there is, and you have removed the dbx file, go ahead and rename it in dbx.

If it is not already in the message, open the trash and do a right-click on the file bak for the folder in question and click on restore. Open the message store up and replace the .bak by .dbx file extension. Close the message store and open OE. Messages must be in the folder.

If messages are restored successfully, you can go ahead and delete the old dbx file that you moved to the desktop.

If you have not then bak copies of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin:

    And see:

A general warning to help avoid this in the future:

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They finally are damaged. Create your own folders defined by the user for mail storage and move your mail to them. Empty the deleted items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 300 MB, and also empty as is possible to default folders.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the CPUs, slows down sending and receiving and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for the loss of messages. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:

  • I lost my files when reinstalled vista.

I need to know why files got wiped out. Norton worked in my system and all of a sudden updates has been reinstalled windows vista. I lost my files...

I don't know why or how Vista has been reinstalled (you have a partition recovery with a keyboard command to access it, or did you have the recovery disc or the installation disc in the drive)?  If it occurred in a clean install (which is most likely), then the hard drive was wiped clean of everything (you probably have Norton or any of your other programs more either) and the recovery will be difficult and largely a matter of chance.  If it occurred as a repair/upgrade (which I do not see how it could happen) then the files and programs will still be there (even if perhaps not in the same place even though they should be another reason, I think that it was a facility clean return to the conditions of the factory).   Norton has been known to do strange things to the systems (I do not recommend one of their products - there are better alternatives, some of which are even free - poster back if you want some recommendations - it could happen), but this is the first time I've heard of him causing a re-installation of the operating system (but it is not beyond the realm of possibility - the update could have triggered the order of re-setup in a way (, or maybe you accidentally hit the order during the process).

There is no way to recover your programs or settings (unless you have a full image backup - that will recover your data as well), but there is a small chance for your data (or at least a part of it).  You have even a normal backup of your data available - which could save you here?

Here are some free recovery programs that might help (try recuva) but read the following before doing anything else on your PC.  The fact that you did so (including re - install the operating system) goes against what is successful-, but it's worth a try.

The files are not really deleted until they are crushed (although they are no longer available through conventional methods).  If you decide to try these recovery programs, you should stop using your drive hard immediately in order not to replace the data that you are trying to recover.  He slave on another PC and launch the recovery of this PC.  Even now you have definitely lost some of them if you use the same PC.  If you can not do this (slave on another PC), you run the risk of overwriting the data with every action you do on the PC (but you may still be able to recover some files - it's a matter of luck).

Only you can decide if the data is important enough to take the PC to an expert data recovery to recover files (they will have better programs and hardware to do that none of us do, and I've provided above).  Do NOT go to the Geek Squad or one of these centers of store-, they generally don't know what they are doing - it take for expert data recovery.  It will cost you a little and they offer generally no guarantees (meaning you pay full price no matter how much or how little they recover).  In the circumstances, I don't think that even they will be able to recover all or maybe not even most of it.  The decision is yours.

I'm sorry that what happened to you - it's very bad luck.  Subsequently, please keep a backup of your data to protect you from happening again (or any number of other issues that could lose your data).  Even better would be a full image backup that would preserve your system as it was when it was backed up (including programs, settings, data and all the rest).

Good luck and I hope this helps!

  • USB stick lost its file system?

I have a HP USB Flash Drive COMPUTERS worked perfectly yesterday, but today 5 (W7, 2 XP, 1 Vista 2) ALL claimed that the drive was not formatted! I had to lose everything (btw, my boss won't be happy) and format the drive. I tried using EASEUS Data Recovery, and then select the format option recovery, but all recovered files were corrupt is somehow! I tried to follow a tutorial on how to remove the format error message, but IT WORKS DO not! (it causes change drive letter) and that's where I saw the file system is RAW! all 5 computers argued that the file system is RAW! SOMEHOW my flash lost its file system drive last night! what might have happened!

You eject it safely? I did that once and it lost its format.

  • Lost all files in Windows, do I need to reinstall Windows?

I have performed in a bad way, as backup of the laptop and I lost all files in windows. Any program of Microsoft works. just internet. Is there a way to recover these files or do I have to re - install windows 7? Thank you.

If you made a backup restore from restoring built in the recovery partition on the laptop, all would be lost, and you need to reinstall all of the programs that you installed after you started using the laptop.

Images and documents you had on this subject, would be too lost!

If you used the built in restore which is under Windows, everything must be always there with the exception of all the files that were created after that restore point.

Adobe Muse does not backup the Muse file while editing. As a best practice, you should take backup of the Muse file manually and save it to disk or online.

  • I cannot select table jump extensions associated with lost data files?

    Hi ~.
I need your help to recover my database.

    I use oracle 9.2.0.8 to Fedora 3 with mode-archive.
    and I have no backup.

Last night, I have experienced hard drive failure.
I tried the recovery at the level of the BONE, but I lost some data from the tablespace files.

in any case, I wanted to recover my database without the data of lost data files.

then, I published 'drop alter database datafile offline' and
    Start the oracle instance.

But, data files were not eliminated from dba_data_files view and
extensions associated with lost data files were not removed from dba_extents view!

Query a selection table containing extensions associated with lost data files.
I have "ORA-00376: file xxx cannot be interpreted at this time" message.

    So, my question is that...
HOW CAN I SELECT TABLE WITHOUT EXTENSIONS RELATED TO THE LOSS OF DATA SCANNING FILES?

    Thank you.

    Hello
Without being in archivelog and without backup, can't make any sort of recovery. This is why the backups and archivelog are so important.

The offline data file command never actually drops the data file. It simply tells the control file now the tablespace of the said is also abandoned. It refreshes not any notice that the files are not supposed to be used or shown more than you.

What documentation is the recovery of the database in the mode NoARch.
    http://download.Oracle.com/docs/CD/B19306_01/backup.102/b14191/osrecov.htm#i1007937

Do you need a backup in order to recover the tables being played. Oracle is not have all the features that can currently out / skip missing extensions for you and you can read the data without them.

  • I lost my files.

My 80 GB Classic iPod lost all his music and reading lists. It shows no content and no file in what I used to have. What can I do?

Probable cause (if there is no hardware problem) is the data on the iPod hard drive corruption.  You must perform a restore on the iPod using iTunes.  This erases the iPod, reinstall its software and sets it to the default settings.  Once the restore is complete, you can set it to sync your iTunes as before.  The restore button is on the recapitulation of the iPod settings screen in iTunes.

If you cannot do a restore, please post back with details.

  • but lost folders/files can be seen in the profile

I lost files from my local server where I email storage. Use pop and it created a new file pop.xxx - 1. on my computer to store mail that I spent. The last having appeared at the beginning of the month, but does not contain links to all the previous records. How to get back the files/folders to add to them?

    Pointer to the file names.

SDB tells Thunderbird folder contains sub folder. It contains in fact as well.
MSF files are index in the mail folder. It also stores the Tags, but it's main purpose is as an index.
Files without extensions are the real mail.

Before you attempt a restore from a backup that will very likely lose something. Check that your anti-virus does not have the file in quarantine is. Pretty common that they scan with new definitions and find something for 6 months which is not a risk.

Regarding your mozbackup. To facilitate the work with it, change the ZIP file extension. then you can use it as any other Zip file. (windows will be opened like a folder in Explorer) The file you are looking for will be in exactly the same relative position in the Zip that mozbackup maintains the structure of the profile folder.
