Hi Asdlfjasdfjlasdf,

How did you install ServicePack initially?

You can try to start safe mode and try to perform a system restore.

Step 1:

For a safe boot, you can follow the below given steps:

1. remove all floppy disks, CDs and DVDs from your computer and restart your computer.

Click the Start button, click the arrow next to the button lock and then click on restart.

2. do one of the following:

a. If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then stop and restart your computer.

b. If your computer has multiple operating systems, use the arrow keys to select the operating system you want to start in safe mode, and then press F8.

3. in the display Advanced Startup Options, use the arrow keys to select the option of safe mode you want and press ENTER. For more information about the options, see startup options (including safe mode).

4 log your computer with a user account with administrator rights.

When your computer is in safe mode, you will see marked Safe Mode in the corners of the screen. To leave safe mode, restart your computer and let Windows start normally.

If you are able to boot to the desktop in safe mode try doing a restore of the system at a point when the computer was working fine.

For more information on Safe Mode, follow the link below:

Start your computer in safe mode

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

Step 2:

To restore the operating system to an earlier point in time, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, type system restore in the search box, and then click System Restore in the list programs.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

2. in the System Restore dialog box, click on choose a different restore point and then click Next

3. in the list of restore points, click a restore point created before you started having the problem, and then click Next

4. click on finish

Note: When you perform the system restore to restore the computer to a previous state, programs and updates that you have installed are removed.

  • Failed to install Vista Service Pack 2 (32-bit): do not normally reboot system...

When update SP2 introduced a few days ago, I tried to install it next to other updates. He installed the files, asked me to restart to make the facilities to be effective, and again started installation of the service pack in 3 steps (of course he has shown not to turn off the ot system to disconnect it). When he began to install while closing, the first step has been successful at 100%, and when it was 98% done in step 2 THE SYSTEM of COMPLETTELY STOP ALL of a SUDDEN WITHOUT ANY WARNING. When I rebooted the system, it recommended to launch startup repair and asked me if I want to restore the system and when I accepted, it AUTOMATICALLY restored to a previous point and windows started normally (before you start to install SP2, it has shown to do a restore point)...

Now, when I checked in the history of the update, all other updates of internet explorer, windows etc defender have been installed except SP2. What is more worrying is that my laptop is not STARTING NORMALLY since then. Always asking me 'Launch system repair' at the beginning - to go to system restore... and then only from the windows... even if just RESTART instead shutdown and startup, the same thing happens... So, I started to keep mode "sleep" when not in use (I was doing important work in small sessions and did not dare to stop)

I tried to install SP2 twice since then and each time the SAME THING REPEATED.

Now when I rebooted my system that's repeatedly went to 'Launch Startup Repair' but not to the point where he asks me if I want to RESTORE... instead, it's just SHUTTING DOWN...

I am running Vista Home premium on my laptop HP Pavilion DV2000 series with processor 2.1 GHz intel core 2 duo, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB HD, NVIDIA graphics 512 MB, lightscribe DVD burner...

No idea what can do now? Any suggestions would be much appreciated...

  • Windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1 (64-bit) will not download completely stuck at 95%

I tried to install Service Pack 1 of Windows today on my laptop.  On one of my laptops with Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit operating system Windows Update downloaded (with 4 other updates) in about an hour and installed successfully during the shut down and restart.

However on my laptop main used with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Service Pack 1 stops downloading (although he says he always download or seems to be) to 95%.  The first time that I tried to download with 3 other updates to Windows, and it stuck.  I finally stopped after about 7 hours with it stuck at 95%.  Isolated, the other downloads and downloaded and installed after the reboot and did it in less than 15 minutes.  Then began to try to download only the Service Pack 1.  It has now been underway for six hours and is still stuck on download of 95%.

Another forum on the web had a message that the Service Pack 1 with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit will not download if you have installed language packs.  (Those who took me about 3-4 days to install and download due to make them one at a time because as a group they would get hung up.)  So I hope that I did not remove the language packs to get this Service Pack 1 installed on this machine.  I hope that Microsoft would have tested on a computer in Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit with language packs installed but maybe not...

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I GAVE TO MY VISTA NOW, I HAVE JUST AS MUCH TROUBLE I DID BEFORE.  ABSOLUTELY, NO DOWNLOAD FROM ANYWHERE.  I WOULD BE HAPPY TO RETURN TO XP.  DEE

I feel for you Dolores it was extremely painful and tedious experience.  The final fix for my computer was going back to the origin by default with Windows Vista Home Premium on my computer.  Then load the software Windows 7 Ultimate.  Then the installation of updates about 100 + Windows which took place including Windows 7 SP 1.  All this has been done before loading another software (except Firefox and Chrome) on my computer.  I did it too before my security software loading, which – incidentally, roughly double the speed of downloads and other features of the computer.  Then after all the updates for Windows 7 has been done, I loaded with Microsoft Office Applications and its many updates.  After that I loaded my security software and checked for viruses.  Then rebuilt all the other features, software customization, etc. of this computer.  Literally, it took over a month to return to the same functionality that it had before the Windows 7 SP1 crashed the computer.  All I can say is thank God that I am religious about backing up files and folders, so I think I got about 95% of my files, folders, etc.

Since the reconstruction, I didn't "major" problems with Windows 7, but I cringe when I update Windows 7 via their process of updating every Tuesday.  I also try to update not updates at the same time or too large sizes in the updates, even if it takes more time to do it this way.  I also reboot after each update whether necessary or not.  I run two registry cleaners different at least once a week, or even more often as since the failure of catostrophic SP 1 of the operating system.

I will say this though, a lot of programs/software, I had that wouldn't work with Vista, all of a sudden work again with Windows 7.

    Good luck!

How and what should I do to get the printer going or to get the computer to recognize.  Installation CD will not work and I looked online and downloaded drivers but still the same thing.

    Hi LOliver,

Method 1: Run the hardware and peripheral troubleshooting tool and check if it makes a difference.

Open the hardware and devices Troubleshooter

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/open-the-hardware-and-devices-Troubleshooter

Method 2: Disconnect all USB (Universal Serial Bus) devices connected to the computer (unless your mouse and keyboard). Connect the printer and check to see if the problem persists.

Method 3: Connect the printer to a different USB port and check.

You should be able to download the Service Packs as a stand-alone Installer on the following links:

If you can not download to your computer, and then use another computer to download the installation file and move it to your computer.

You don't need to install SP1A.  XP Gold, you must install SP1A or SP2 before installing SP3.  I recommend that you start with SP2 and then SP3.
