I'm trying to complete installation of Windows XP or Vista on my spare computer?

I have a computer that I built a couple of years and I was going to use as a second computer. It has 4 GB of memory, power 400 watt, no video card, CD/DVD drive and a 250 gig HD.

I have a full version of Windows XP and a full version of Windows Vista that I had bought years back.

My problem is that I can't seem to install on the computer or the other. I have connected the HD to my main computer and it showed fine work there, so I formatted it from this computer. Whenever I start with two disks in there, there are files that are supposed to be missing, damaged or it just hangs up. I think it was the drive, but when I try again once it copies these files ok and then something else cannot be copied. A couple of times I did it all the way to put in the product key, only to say something couldn't be copied and I could press ESC to skip this file. There are too many jumps to install.

I used the Windows Vista installed on my main computer last month, so I know it should work. I'm not an expert computer technician, but I can usually understand the process and sometimes to find a solution to my problem. I do not understand with a full installation disc why is not to copy the files.

Any help would be appreciated

Jeff

I pulled all the connections of the food, with the exception of Mo and reconnected to the HD.  I also tried another DVD drive and then reconnected it.  Everything started to work very well and started Windows Installer without any problems.  Of course, I had problems connecting with DVD player.

Thanks for the help

Jeff

    Hi, CPC,.

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers Community!

You must install Flight simulator on vista as well as Windows Xp and vista are two different operating systems.

You log in to vista, you may not use any of the XP application and vice versa.

  • Cannot complete installation of Windows 7 OEM on Precision T3400

    Can someone help me?

I try to do a clean install on a Dell Precision T3400 with Windows 7 64 Bit OEM, but cannot complete the sequence.

It goes through the sequence of the whole installation, restart a couple of times. He gets in the beginning of the sequence as "complete installation" - contribute to what, according to me, it's the final reboot - and then crashes. I think that what should come next is the bit where to enter information first name of computer use - time, date, place - time etc. I never get that much, however.

I have not updated the BIOS. Previously Windows Vista - but the disk has been deleted - not sure if I can update the BIOS in this State.

Another thing - I swapped the graphics card. The monitor of works well during the initial installation sequence.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks a lot for reading.

The suggestion above about SATA drives didn't really solve my problem, but it got me thinking in the right direction.

Here's what I've learned about this through the answer and the answers on other forums above. It turns out be a common problem:

It is usually caused by the lack of drivers for devices that are connected to the computer. Devices can include: any type of USB device (may be same mouse or keyboard), any type of hard disk, graphics cards and other types of cards such as PCI or PCIe Firewire. If you have a SCSI card then remove it permanently.

I had a Dell keyboard with built in USB ports and a Media Player control. I swapped it for a simple vanilla ordinary keyboard.

I also already swapped the graphics card that came installed on the T3400 for an older NVidia Quadro card as a fix for compatibility with my older monitors SVGA adapter.  When I searched on the NVIDIA site, I discovered that there is no Windows 7 driver for my graphics card, so I bought a DVI - I adapter that I needed the original card and replace.

My problem turned out to be the graphics card.

On other forums I have seen people solve the problem by removing the USB devices all THE. If you have a keyboard and a USB mouse, this may seem to be a problem. However, once you have initialized the windows 7 install process you can remove the keyboard and the mouse. Whenever the computer reboots it page and warn that any input device is fixed, but after a short pause, he must continue with the installation procedure. In my case, the fancy USB keyboard was certainly a problem too. Disconnected after initialization of the installation allowed the installation of two additional steps.

I curse me Microsoft about this problem, but to be honest, I was not able to run a compatibility test of windows 7 on my computer. I bought it on ebay without an operating system. If I could perhaps it would have marked the graphics card problem and composite USB keyboard device.

Don't know if it will work, but if you can't figure out what your driver problem, you can be able to run a hardware compatibility test and periperhals by a temporary installation of Ubuntu and connect it to the Net. I had no problem to boot Ubuntu from a USB key and the connection to the network.  It works perfectly first time without any of the usual shenanigans of Microsoft. In my opinion, Ubuntu is an operating system much higher with a much nicer user experience. My only reason to stick with Microsoft's older software. It's highly unlikely that I will ever consider buying a new system from Microsoft again. They lose the pedals after XP.

    Good luck

  • Satellite A300-1QD - two questions during the installation of windows XP or Vista

    Nice day
    Here's my problem:

    1. I just bought the Toshiba Satellite A300-1QD and since there is Vista based on it and I have Vista ultimate, I decided to install on the laptop.
After I formatted deleated everything and I have the partition that I created a new.
After that I installed Vista, now I'm at the point where it says complete installation and the blow bar is at about 2/3.
My problem now is that it's now been 3 hours and nothing happens the dots next to the 'installation complete' is still occurring and disappearing.

2 as the number one lasted so long I decided to install windows XP Professional, but when it loads after that I put the cd one has bluscreen place called chkdsk.

What should I do now to get something on what works?

Hello. I think that the partition table and boot loader are messed up and it's your problem. You can try to chek to find errors and format your HARD disk with a third parity tool and try to install windows again.

Having some difficulty understanding what it is I should do before installing a new upgrade of windows 7. I have the disk to upgrade, but discovered only today I now have to perform a customized installation because I'm upgrading from vista home premium to windows 7 Professional.

So, this means that all program etc. files must also be backed up as well as the usual save multimedia files, photos, etc..

HOW HOW HOW do I save my program files for example office microsoft, mcafee internet sicurity? Is it as simple as the copy on a CD/DVD-R?

You cannot save programs and then copy them to another system.

You must reinstall them from the original media. Make sure you have all the license keys you need to reinstall before you start.

Your computer may have a recovery partition which is accessible when you first start the computer (usually by typing the key F9 several times will begin the recovery process).

This will reinstall Windows back to the point when you received everything first, therfore backup important data files (Documents, photos, music, etc.) on external before starting. Be prepaired to reinstall all the software can also be purchased and installed (rounding up of multimedia installation and product key codes).

    Hi Rachel 30,.

We would like to get a better understanding of this issue, so we can better help not only you but other users with similar problems.

Did you run the compatibility check before installing windows 7?

You try to upgrade or perform a new installation?

What are the games you try to uninstall and you uninstall them completely?

    Method 1:

Download and installation of the Upgrade Advisor. Read the following article.

    Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor

    http://www.Microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=1b544e90-7659-4BD9-9e51-2497c146af15

Once you have downloaded install Upgrade Advisor and run it on the system.

    Method 2:

Before you install Windows 7 you should check if the system is compatible or not.

    1. Insert the Windows 7 DVD in the DVD drive.

    2. click the installation option, after the system automatically checks the compatibility and it generates a report.

You see an error message in the report?

If Yes, then what is the error message you get?

If you want to perform a new installation of the backup of your data and follow method 2.

    Method 3:

If this does not work then you may need to perform a clean installation. Follow the steps mentioned below.

Warning: In a clean installation, existing data will be deleted. These data include settings and personal data. Back up your data before you perform a new installation. After installing the operating system, you must also reinstall all programs.

    Step 1:

Perform a new installation of Windows 7 by starting the computer from the Windows 7 Vista

Note The computer must be configured to start from the DVD drive. For more information on the configuration of the computer to start from the DVD drive, see the documentation provided with your computer. Or contact the manufacturer of the computer.

To perform a new installation of Windows 7 by starting the computer from the Windows 7 DVD, follow these steps:

    1. start the computer.

    2. Insert the Windows 7 DVD in the DVD drive, and then close the drive tray.

    3. restart the computer.

    4. When you receive the message "Press any key to boot from CD", press a key.

    5. follow the instructions to install Windows 7.

If Windows 7 is now running on your computer, you have completed the installation successfully.

  • Windows Vista will not complete installation on SATA hard drive

I tried to install Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit on a new desktop computer Acer X 1200 (less than 1 year).  Vista recognizes the drive, format and copy all the files on the disk installation.  Then restarts, is preparing to launch for the first time and get to the part where it says installation finished and hangs there.  The green progress bar does not move and it hangs indefinitely.  The hard drive is SATA and I put a new disc in hard, but exactly the same thing happened.  The motherboard has no IDE port on it and there is no option in the BIOS for the IDE emulation.  At this point I think the motherboard is bad, but I am working also on a laptop HP 1 year with SATA hard drive that does exactly the same thing.  The two systems are pre-installed with Vista Home Premium.  The two systems see the hard drive, but will not complete installation.  I even tried to run the WD Tools Data Lifeguard before installation with no luck at all.  There is no error message or error code, just of hangs and end no installation.  You have any suggestions for this?  Thank you.

What was my problem I bought the equipment... like motherboard, memory, cpu, and video

Vista would not be install.would blow on the end of the installation so I tried to put it natively and it worked!

  • Installation of Windows 7 has failed due to the graphics card, can not go beyond "Complete Installation".

Hello, I'm trying to reinstall Windows 7 Professional 64 - bit after an accident which is more allow me to start on the login screen of my previous installation of Windows 7 Professional 64 - bit.  When I try to reinstall the installation hangs and will not finish (even at night) on the stage of "Complete Installation"... ».  During my first install of Windows 7 on this computer I had the same problem and finally worked my way around it by removing the 2 GB of RAM (2 GB installed leaving) and the replacement of my gpu NVIDIA 8800GT with a gpu NVIDIA 8600.  I don't have the right to replace the gpu, and I believe that this issue could possibly be resolved by installing a suitable driver for the 8800GT before starting the installation.  Since I can't start is no longer in Windows 7 in a form in any way, the only option I know is to use the option to load drivers in the system found on the DVD itself System Recovery Options.  When I find the correct driver and install it, it returns the error "failed to install".  I am now at a loss to know what to do because it was the only solution I could think, am I missing something?  If this is not the case, how can I get Windows 7 installed again?  Thanks for any help.
