  If you have a 64-bit version of Windows installation and you want to
  to go to a 32-bit installation of any version of Windows, no. One
  upgrade or downgrade is not possible. The only way to change the
  'number of bits' of Windows using a clean installation.

  I took the article to use regedit to swap my C & D return records.

  Now windows Vista starts OK. (All I had before was just an empty office).

  I also received my HP Factory disaster recovery disks it looks they will work if I need.

  3. the problem occurs in safe mode?

  4. don't you try to do the Startup Repair?

  There are three ways to correct this
  (1) back to the original installation - assuming that the one who did the installation just ran the upgrade rather than a custom installation (is there a "windows.old. This folder?)
