  • Satellite L40: Can I use Toshiba DVD to install Vista on a new HARD drive

    Hi people,

I'm new to this forum... I don't know that there, can someone advise me.
I replace my Satellite L40 HDD with a bigger drive, the current is only 80Gig.

And my question is, can I use my Toshiba recovery Disc to reinstall Vista on the new HARD drive, or is it a hidden partition on the original HARD drive?
If someone has done this, would appreciate an idiots guide to doing the same thing.

    Cheerzzzzzzzzzzz...

    Dave

Of course you can do it.
The DVD of Vista recovery Toshiba help you install Vista, all the drivers Toshiba and tools, and it automatically creates all the partitions.

So what you have to do is to boot from the recovery DVD and follow the instructions on-screen ;)

    Check it out!

    Vista reinstall unsuccessful

Have a laptop Dell Inspiron 1720 under VISTA that would not initialize.  Would not meet a boot of VISTA reinstall the CD that came with the device.  Replaced the hard drive with the hard drive to another laptop running Win 7 Dell.  The 1720 started fine in Win7 since the new HARD drive, and all seems well.  So I guess that all the material (and this new HARD drive) are OK.

Then, I started again the Vista reinstall the CD to get the 1720 and his new HARD drive to an installation of VISTA is legitimate.  At the format of the process to reinstall the HARD disk partition, and install started.  Has been through the steps of copying, in expansion, installation of the features, installation of updates and finally successful at "completing Installation". "we sat for hours.  The HARD drive light is inactive now.  Not easy to life.  Later (at night), the screen goes black with the cursor of the mouse visible and alive.  But not Vista.  Cut off power supply and tried again.  Same result.  The VISTA reinstall stands in the last step.

BTW, I ran a diagnosis of memory, and it was OK.

Any suggestions for next steps?  Reinstall CD could be bad?

    Thank you

    Hi Mike,.

Disconnect all external devices other than the keyboard and mouse and check if you canproceed with the installation.

If you have more than 1 GB of RAM I suggest to keep only 1 GB of RAM, remove the extra RAM and check if you can proceed with the installation.

Alternatively, if I could borrow a disk from someone else? I still have the product key of Vista on the bottom of my machine.

You can try to make records of the damaged hard drive recovery
    ask hp how
or buy a set of vista home recovery disks
they normally sell them for a nominal cost
or see if you can borrow a vista microsoft dvd and use your product to install your version of vista it

There is no Vista free download legal available.

    http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/contacthp?LC=en&DLC=en&cc=au

Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

  • Unable to install vista 64-bit sp2, his show Installation has failed.

    his show Installation has failed.

    Hi manjunathak,

    ·         Did you do changes on the computer before the show?

    ·         You get the error message?

    Follow these methods.

Method 1: Temporarily disable the security software.

    Disable the anti-virus software

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 2: Put the computer in a clean boot State to see if there is a software conflict as the clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts and try to install the updates.

Note: After completing the steps in the clean boot troubleshooting, follow the link step 7 to return the computer to a Normal startupmode.

Method 3: Follow the steps in the Microsoft article mentioned below and check if it solves the problem:

  • How long does take to install updates for Windows Vista after a new installation?

    Hello

I'm trying to fix an old computer that I had lying around the House. She has Windows Vista installed.

Today, I performed a clean installation of Windows using the recovery partition to try to make things a little more zippy.

I know that Windows Vista is released some time ago, so I know there will be lots of updates for me to install. My question is how long approximately would it take to install all updates and get the operating system? It's a very slow computer at first.

    Thank you

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

  • Cannot install Vista on the new hard drive

    original title: Please help!

I have a dell laptop inspiron 1720, not the newest I know but it surfs the web. At least it used to. I had some sort of virus or something and my hard drive kept bluescreening on me. I said, well I want to do this thing faster and have more space anyway. Out a ram 1 g got 4g, out went the 120gig and got a 250. Went to reinstall dell support stuff and it went well. Then had my vista disk and started to install. Expanded files ok and everything. You all the way to the install tab end and nothing happens? Don't know what else to do? Any help would be great.

Turns out I'm only semi retarded. My friend told me since I have a new hard drive, I would probably need to first load the driver for it. Then I got to the part when you choose a car and chose to load drivers. Of course I had to change discs in the middle of install and load a driver for the new hard drive and everything went smoothly after that.

  • Install Vista on the new hard drive with upgrade media

Original harddrive in Lenovo has failed. I replaced but didn't have a recovery disk. I bought Windows Ultimate up grade, and he scored when I installed the new drive. After the initial installation, new drive must be reformatted (again). Now windows says my registration number is already installed. It was purchased by me and installed on my original Lenovo machine. I have the original product code on the back of my Lenovo and the new product code on Vista Ultimate box. What can I do to register again? Thank you. Mike

You must first install the original operating system and activate.  THEN install the Vista upgrade and which activate.  You can't ignore all during the installation of the original operating system.  You can't do a full install of a drive to upgrade (or product key).  I suggest that contact the manufacturer for a set of discs of recovery of re - install the original system.  It is the only way that this is possible.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!
