  • Task Manager Windows has 5 svchost.exe/System cases and 3 instances of YahooWidgets.exe/Owner running in XP SP3

I did a few recommended lately on the system settings.  I don't remember see these multiple entries above.

It is normal to have several copies of svchost.exe appears in the Task Manager.  I have 8 right now in the process of execution.

Important XP Services running "behind" these entries of svchost.exe.  Some svchost.exe process may have just XP Service running behind her, an another svchost.exe process can have several XP Services running behind it.

In addition, malicious software has been know to dress up like a svchost.exe process to deceive you or sometimes the malware will hide behind a svchost.exe process, because he knows that you won't be able to see it in the Task Manager.

I don't know what YahooWidgets and do not want to install any YahooWidgets to find out how it works, or if this is normal.

Thanks to the bad implementation of the MS Answers forums, we know absolutely nothing about your system is always a good idea before troubleshooting to run some respectable scans for malware, then I'll give you some instructions, if you're curious to see what happens behind these multiple svchost.exe process see you in Manager tasks.

No matter what you use for malware protection, follow these steps:

Download, install, update, and make at least an analysis full (not at the same time) with these free malware detection programs:
    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

These comprehensive analyses can take some time, but you really need to run.  SAS will probably be just a bunch of Internet tracking cookies, but you can remove them.  Once you have done at least a full analysis, you can do quick scans in the future to save time and save the analyses complete for when you have more time or are really suspicious of an infection of the system.

They can be uninstalled later if you wish.

To help understand your processes svchost.exe and what is running under them, read this article and you will be smarter than the average bear:

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial129.html

You may be able to get clues with what is happening with your svchost.exe process using the Task Manager and maybe understand.

You will always be able to understand what is happening with your svchost.exe process if you use Process Explorer.

Download Process Explorer, so you can see what is 'really' running on your system, especially behind those svchosts several process see you in the running task manager.

    Download Process Explorer from here:

    http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/Sysinternals/bb896653.aspx

You'll like Process Explorer when you get the hang of it.  Process Explorer is the Manager of Windows taskbar on steroids.

Process Explorer installs nothing so it won't slow down your system since it works only on request.

Process Explorer can seem a little intimidating at first because it has so much information, but you will begin to make love the way it works when you're looking for performance problems.   You can even say EP you want it to be your new default 'Task Manager' value in the future.  You can always run the original tasks as Manager.

Once you get Process Explorer running, expand the columns, made drag the corners of the screen for it's largest, etc., so you can see as much information as possible in the window.  Now you can really see what is running on the system.

  • The system creates thousands of useless with names like temporary files ~ WRL2755.tmp, but they never disappear. How can I remove all at the same time?

I am running XP Professional 2002 SP3. It all started about six months ago I suspect with one of these updates. These files are located in the files with the associated files. There are actually hundreds of thousands of them. They have tripled the number of files on my computer. I want to know how to get rid of them and stop the system from their creation.

    Hello Redoced,

I found an article from knowledge explaining that ~ WRL .tmp files are created by Word, further than the WRL type .tmp files are created by Clipboard actions.

  • I managed to successfully install a copy of 'clean' of Vista on D:\. How can I remove the operating system incorrectly installed D:\?

Thank you Mick: This information has been useful and I'm glad I read through it to better understand how to work the partiions.  Having said that, however, I need not expand c:\ and/or remove d:\.  I just need to remove a version of Vista installed drive d:\ I placed on it in error.  At the time, I didn't know I don't follow the prompts closely enough and managed to put a second copy of Vista OS 32-bit Home Basic edition on the wrong drive.

Since then, I have installed correctly copy 'clean' Vista on c:\ and things are now going smoothly.

Now, I just need to understand how to properly uninstall Vista from the wrong drive d:\.

Can anyone help with this?  Thank you very much.

You need not reinstall Lightroom in this case.

  • "The Windows Task Manager has stopped working" the INSTANT Task Manager opens... process of safe mode does nothing.

I am running windows 7 64 bit and have encountered a problem. Whenever I have open tasks, any way Manager (msconfig, cntrl shift escape, Ctrl alt del, etc.), task manager opens and white and displays "Windows Task Manager has stopped working". I am increasingly frustrated with the problem. I tried booting in safe mode AND clean boot, but the problem persists. On top of that, the system restore fails whenever I'm trying to do.

Could you please help me get running again the Task Manager?

Do you feel the behavior if you log on with a different user account?

Maybe, try to rename a HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\TaskManager to for example a HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\TaskManager.OLD in the registry. Then try to start the Task Manager again.

  • The Task Manager does not appear, nothing happens when you select it

It is very difficult to get help. Now, I'm not sure if this is the right forum and place to be. I need help to get the Task Manager which has disappeared from my computer. I click right on the taskbar, and then click on task manager and nothing appeared. Please advise on how to find him.

    Hi disillusionedvery,

If you're not, try to login as an administrator and see if that makes a difference.  If so, we still have a problem, but at least we know the Task Manager is here.  If you have any other user accounts on the computer, try connecting them and see if they all have the same problem or if it is limited to one account.  Your profile may be damaged and if this is the case, post back and I will provide procedures about how to fix it.

Try pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL all at the same time and click Task Manager on the screen that appear and see if it works to access the Task Manager.

If this does not work, let's try the following:

Go to start / all programs / accessories / command prompt and right click on command prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

, Type sfc/scannow go and let it run.  It will scan and try to the difficulty of some of your system files.  If all goes well he comes complete with no corruption, it could not repair (if it has these post of corruption here or try to analyze it to find the problem or files using http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928228.

While in the command prompt, type chkdsk /f /r and enter and let it run.  They tried to set itself to run at the next reboot.   Answer Yes and restart to run the program.  It will scan and attempt to resolve any corruption or bad sectors on your hard drive and remove especially as a potential cause.

If it does not, then thanks for posting error messages in the event viewer on the Task Manager (Start / Control Panel / administrative tools / Event Viewer).  Look in the system section.

If this does not work, try a boot minimum http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135.  If the problem goes away then it's just a matter of tracking down the culprit at the origin of the problem.   Follow the procedures described in the article.  Once found, remove, delete, disable or uninstall.  Once remember to put Vista in normal status, as described in the procedures. If the problem occurs in clean mode then just restore the system to normal and reboot - this solution will not work.

Start in safe mode with network and see if the problem is here.  A result allows us to narrow down the search for the cause.

Do you know when this problem started?  If it has been reasonably recent, try a restore of the system to a point in time BEFORE the problem started. If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two.  NOTE: You will need to re - install any software and updates that you have installed between now and the restore point, but you can use Windows Update for updates.

If this does not work, you may be infected with malware.  Update and run a scan complete with any security software you use.  Then, try the following programs if you do not, because they can help. I recommend you download, install, update and run full scans with Malwarebytes:http://www.malwarebytes.org/ and SuperAntiSpyware:http://superantispyware.com/ and then run a full scan of Microsoft Security:http://www.microsoft.com/security/default.aspx.  If you find something, especially something you can't delete, then after return.

That's enough for now.  One of these procedures will be hopefully resolved or at least identify the problem.  If this isn't the case, please post back with the answers to the above questions, results of the tests and procedures that you did (including copies of errors if any found), your version of Windows (for example, 32-bit Vista Business SP2) and anything else that you think may be useful.  We will then decide where to go was from there, armed with more information and know what and did not work.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!
