  I am trying to install CS4 on a new imac, I recently bought. When I open the program, it asks the product serial number CS4 that I enter and get the green check mark. He then asked an "upgrade audit" it forces me to enter in the product and the number of series for which my version of CS4 was an improved version. I don't have the packaging, or whatever it is for CS2 software, that it was an upgrade, however it is still installed on my old computer.   As John says, when you go to activate it on the new computer, if you don't have the old version installed, will give you the opportunity to identify the old version and provide its serial number as proof that you are eligible using the improved version.
