  • I received a notice of "software update" (Firefox 10.0.2 update), but nothing happens when I click on "Update Firefox" - button

I downloaded Firefox about 6 months ago, and since I was not able to make softwareupdates. I get pop up notice on updates available, but nothing happens when I click on the update Firefox button.

    Yes.

If he has problems with the update or the permissions then simpler is to download the full version and trash the version currently installed to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the file on the desktop disk image (dmg)

    • Trash the present application Firefox to do a clean (re-) install
    • Install the new version you downloaded

Your profile data is stored in the Firefox profile folder, so you will not lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re) install Firefox.

  • How to use the Update Manager

I'm going to update ESXi 5.5 hosts my cluster but I know Update Manager component, so I ask if it is possible to host unique patch so that I can test VM on it and then to extend the update to the other guests.

Can you offer me to apply all updates or it is usually to give priority to the security updates? I use Vmware image of HP because my hosts are server blades Proliant.

How can I start? You have to suggest the quick start guide?

Update Manager downloads the list of patches available from vmware.com. To configure the frequency of the update of the repository, click on House. Click the Update Manager icon. On the Configuration tab, click Patch download calendar.

To view the scheduled task Patch download, click Homepage > scheduled tasks > VMware vCenter Update Manager Update to download.

    Notes:

    • To manually run this task, right-click the task, click run.

    • When you run the task, see task Download Patch definitions in the these last tasks.

    • If the download Patch definitions task fails, make sure that Update Manager can reach vmware.com. For more information

To set baselines to the ESX host:

    1. Click home > hosts and Clusters.

    2. Highlight the ESX host, you want to update, and then click the Update Manager .

    3. Click on Attach. Select host patches critical and not critical host patches of baselines, and then click attach.

Note: to create basic custom lines click home > Update Manager > planning and groups > Create.

To analyze the ESX host for missing patches on the repository, right-click on the ESX host and click find updates > patches and Extensions > Scan.

    Notes:

    • Scan progress is displayed by The entity of Scan task in the recent tasks.

    • The analysis of the host does not affect running virtual machines.

    • If parsing fails, make sure that the ports between Update Manager and the ESX host is open. For more information, seerequirements of ports network VMware Update Manager (1004543).

    • When the analysis is complete, you will see the number of missing patches on the ESX host. If some patches are missing, you see Compliant.

To restore the missing patches to the ESX host:

    1. Turn off all the virtual machines or vMotion them to another ESX host.
    2. Place the ESX host in maintenance mode. Right click on the ESX host, choose to enter the Maintenance Modeand click on Yes.
    3. Right-click on the ESX host and choose clean > host patches critical and not critical host patches of baselines, and then click Next.
    4. Choose which updates or patches to install, click Next > Next > Finish.

    Notes:

    • Progress of sanitation are illustrated by the task of the principal remedy in the recent tasks.

    • This task could take some time as Update Manager starts to download the patches to the vmware.com website.

    • If the restore fails, ensure that Update Manager, ESX host, and vmware.com ports are open. For more information, see requirements of ports network VMware Update Manager (1004543).

  • The ESX host could restart after complete rehabilitation.

  • Installation of the Client VMware Update Manager 6.0 not in the installation menu

I played a bit with a VMware 6.0 default installation and everything has been installed. After I finished I could not find a way to configure the Update Manager. It was available in the webclient service, but still there is no way (AFAIK) to go to "Admin View" here.

So I installed the client vSphere 6.0 via the menu autorun and worked well. I found a few screenshots to another installation of VUM and there was a separate button "VUM Client" installation in the automatic menu which I did not.

After reviewing the DVD, I found the Setup file Z:\updateManager\VMware-UpdateManager.msi, after installing it the VUM Client is available.

    I used VMware-VIMSetup-all - 6.0.0 - 2562643.ISO as an installation source.

It is normal to do it like that or if the option "VUM customer" is somehow forgotten in the automatic menu? I wonder if you guys probably noticed the same thing.

Just a plug in c# if I not mistaken, just need him.  Believe me, c# is where you can actually get stuff done unless its something that is deliberately omitted in order to make this horrible thing

    Hello

I have Update Manager 5.1 update 1 installed and working. I've just updated the server vcenter to 5.1.0 Update 2 and now trying to upgrade the VUM to also update 2. Interestingly, since the upgrade to vCenter 5.1 update 2, our Veeam VM backups started failing. It is said the service account used to connect to vcenter can no longer do. I think that I now have a vCenter problem rather than with single update manager. Of course, I can live without Manager Update for awhile, but not without our Veeam backup.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

    Janine

As a result, we actually had major problems with authentication of domain vCenter. All 3rd party plugins did not exist to authenticate (including our Veeam backup) which makes it a little more serious. We could however connect you if one account local existence on the server vCenter himself. We could log on to the server vCenter as a domain account (which is a member of the Administrators group) and then launch the vSphere client, choosing to use "windows session credentials. If we typed in a user and a password that he will not allow you to connect.

We then looked at logging on to the web client that has failed with an error similar to the following: -.

The authentication server has returned an unexpected error: ns0:RequestFailed: internal error during the creation of SAML 2.0 token. The error can be caused by a source of identity with a malfunction.

We could however login to the web client as admin@System-Domain to display the UNIQUE Admin authentication settings and make the necessary changes.

So we knew now that it was more a problem of SSO. Knowledge base articles has made the removal of the source of the local identity that we were not happy in doing so, we placed a call with VMware. VMware response was to deploy a VAPP 5.5 vCenter to see if version 5.5 of SSO can fix this (we run 5.1), we could go SSO to 5.5. Also, we were not satisfied with this response as the new VAPP and SSO version probably would work it would be a clean install. He has not proved that the exsiting SSO to 5.5 upgrade does not have the same problem.

We started trawling through the logs and noticed that there are errors in connection to DCs in a trusted domain (us authenticate not to all accounts etc. in this trusted domain). The trusted domain has been listed as a source of identity in the web client, we decided to remove the domain from the list of sources of identity (after consultation with VMware that said that we could remove it but he wouldn't do anything). We do not think it would work, but it did! We discovered since AD team that there were some problems with the trust between our domain and the other domain and we can only think that after restarting the server vCenter for 5.1 installation update 2 that he then picked up on these issues.

Just thought this may be helpful to anyone experiencing similar problems.

  • vCenter Update Manager IP address

    Hi people,

Recently, we had a controller failure on our HP DL360 G5 server and operating system does not start as the disks are not available. We managed to install vCenter Server 5.U 3 quickly on a nearby spare server and the existing DB point. The new server has preserved the old IP address of the server that we do not want to bring intellectual property changes affecting our client connectivity.

I reinstalled Update Manager from scratch and get option details vCenter IP and connect and everything seems normal, except that when I installed the plugin and the configuration of the Access tab, the specified IP address is old IP of the spare server had and don't watch not the IP that I expect. To implement the details

    VC1 - 192.168.170.101

    VC1 - DR - 192.168.170.102

VC1 crashed and we raised quickly VC1 - DR, changed the IP 192.168.170.101 and installed vCenter Server. Update Manager for some reason any shows me 192.168.170.102 where I guess que.101.

I followed the instructions on 101322 KB and extension.xml right ip (. 101) and may not know where that IP address is stored. Enjoy a counselor who could help me solve this problem.

I managed to find the cause of this problem.

There was a static host to vCenter DR & old IP entry. Once removed, reinstalled VUM and happy now.

  • Any need of Update Manager 2 databases?

    Hey guys,.

We have a farm 4.1, a farm of 5.0 and a farm 5.1.  We are running Update manager on the server vCenter for farm 5.0.  We just build a new farm 5.1 and I noticed that the update to the farm Manager 5.0 shows no task 5.1.  I make sure not to cause problems on farms 4.1 and 5.0, but I thought the best way for everything to be sorted would update Update Manager on the farm of 5.0 to 5.1.  Then point the battery 5.1 servers to update manager in the farm 5.0.  Are there problems with it?  I won't start accidentally updating hosts in other farms, etc., but I think that I have to download an image of ESXi and decontaminate before something bad happens.  Are there other settings that I should check if ensure the upgrade of the Update Manager 5.0-> 5.1 won't cause problems?  I know that I should make a backup of the database as well.

    Thank you

If I'm reading between the lines correctly, you have separate vCenter for each of your 4.1, 5.0 and 5.1 servers environments. Is this correct, or you manage all your farms with a single instance of vCenter?

Unless something has changed, the Update Manager can interact with a vCenter server, and you need an instance of VUM for each vCenter, using the same version of VUM as the vCenter server.
