I received an attachment to an email that I need to read, but when I try to open it I get an error box indicating that this file does not have a program associated with it.
I am not computer savy and don't know how to find a program that will help me to open an RTF file. It is an attachment to an email that I really need to open. How can I solve this problem? Thank you
Save the attachment in your documents folder. Can still be there, and double-click it. If there is no program associated with the RTF files, you will be asked to choose a default program. The choice of WordPad.

"this file does not have a program associated with it" message when you insert the sd card
When I insert an SD card into my computer, I get a message that says f:\ that this file does not have a program associated with it... I know I can set default programs with the types of files in the Control Panel, but how do you recognize what to do when I insert an SD card in the computer?
Windows 7
The problem is caused by the automatic game changing options, this can sometimes happen when you install a new program, but they can easily be changed back. Click 'start' at the bottom left, go into "default programs" on the right side of the list (under computer / doc/images etc.) select "Change AutoPlay settings.
You will find prob some of the sections had the new auto run program, just edit those you want (or all) "ask me every time", you will find that when you insert an sd card, you get the options normal download, copy, etc. as usual. -

Original title: problem e mail
I click on the links in the email and get a box that says: "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action" and the link cannot be opened.
Suggestions;
1. make sure that your e-mail program is your default program.
2. make sure that your Internet Explorer, or your main browser has all its faults.
You can do both of the above by following these steps...
Start button > right column, click default programs > click Set Your Default programs...
1. click on your e-mail program > it doesn't say "this program has all its defaults"?
If not, click on choose by default for this program > check all boxes below the list > click on save when finished.2 do the same as above for your Internet Explorer, or your main browser.

Everything is a bit wide.
- If what you click is a hyperlink to a Web page or a URL of type http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-ecoms/windows-mail-this-file-does-not-have-a-program/62ac226a-cca4-4ae9-9678-98e0a015fc2a, then the file associations that are broken are those who launch a browser to view the web page. This would include the HTTP and HTTPS protocols.
- If you click is an email address, it is the file association for the mailto: protocol that broke.
- If it you click on a file as an attachment to the e-mail message, then this is the file association for the type of file (for example, .docx, .pdf, .jpg) concerned who broke.
Assuming that you are talking about the first, (re-) represent Internet Explorer as default browser by clicking on the Start button then clicking default programs. Select set your default programs, and then Internet Explorer in the left page and click the Green Summit.
To ensure that all users of the computer doesn't have the same problem, login Windows with an administrator account and return to the default programs page. This time, select set access and the computer program defaults.
- Select custom , and then click the chevrons pointing to extend the selection.
- Under choose a default browser, select Internet Explorer.
- For other browsers you use, select enable access to this program .
- Click OK, and then restart the computer.
Now try to click a link in an e-mail. If it still does not work, please describe in detail what is happening, including the full text of the error message.
