I received an email from Windows Live, asking for my password. Is this a legitimate email?
The e-mail said that my account would be deleted if I don't answer. The Windows Live team never send an e-mail like that?

Windows 7 ask for a password, but there is no password area
My laptop Windows 7 Starter was once an admin password, until I removed it. Now, every time I try to make everything about the admin it gives me the pop-up box and asks for the admin password, but it is not a place where I can type in it, let alone is not a password.
I'm the only person who uses the laptop. I can access my account very well.
I think that it could be antivirus software on the laptop, but I can not remove it without the admin password.
Help, please.
Hi Chacko,
Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.
I understand that you receive the prompt to enter the password and does not not the password field. I'll be happy to answer your query. Let me ask you;
- Are you referring to sing-in or password while accessing a particular program, page, window, setting?
Since you had deleted the password, there could be several other reasons, including viruses as well as for this cause. From now on, I would suggest trying the following steps and check.
Step 1: Start the computer in safe mode and check if you either get the password field or not at all.
Please refer to: , start your computer in safe mode
Step 2: If things are going very well, put the computer in a clean boot state and check.
To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.
Place your system in the clean boot state helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem. You must follow the steps in the article mentioned below to perform a clean boot.
How to perform a clean boot in Windows
Note: see 'How do I reset the computer to start normally after a boot minimum troubleshooting' to reset the computer starts normally after troubleshooting.
Step 3: Run Microsoft Safety Scanner
The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.
Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.
Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.
Hope this information is useful. Please feel free to answer in the case where you are facing in the future other problems with Windows.
