You should check the preferences of Photos by clicking on settings > Photos & camera on your device. Here you can check if iCloud photo library and my photo stream are enabled. If they are, we know that your photos are backed up safely in iCloud. You should check to make sure all your photos are here. To remove permanently some old images see the steps below.

  Delete pictures and videos from iCloud photo library

  In the Photos app on your iOS device, press Photos.
