I REINSTALLED Windows XP and it ended upward on the E: drive instead of c drive?
Original title: I REINSTALLED Windows XP and it ending upward on the E: drive - how I put on drive c?
I had to completely reinstall Windows XP and I guess that I do not have good enough attention? The Program files and the system is on drive E:! It starts up fine and the updates work! How can I move Windows XP back to the c drive without having to reinstall again? Is it possible to copy the C: Partition on an external hard drive (such as FreeAgentPRO)? Can copy E: drive in drive c? Then backup copy of the Original disc to the E: drive c? Is the an easier way to do this? I am somewhat familiar with the command prompt! I could probably do if I have a step by step process! I was able to use some RECOVERY on the Original CD of the OS and got some of my files back!

Original title: The ANSWER, I received for my Windows XP problem was NO advantage!
It is interesting that the supposed support person was and MARKED as answer! I could think of a couple of OTHER procedures that could have been done, but I was looking for a better way! I'm not like Windows poured into the support person, but I think I know more about computers, then it does! I'll solve the problem myself, but it is of course disappointing! Microsoft always you leave on the floor, otherwise finds a way to make more money on your part! Being on a limited income, it's just as sad! This is ONE reason I am migrating to UBUNTU!

I have three old computers in my house. All three begin to show serious signs of just getting old. I was recommended to clean my computers. I would like to reinstall my Windows OS and reinstall the software of my office. I've lost my records over the years and moving, but still have my product key numbers that I kept in my office files. Is it possible to reinstall it without a disk?
BCorb,
I suggest you call the computer manufacturer and request for an XP CD will be sent to you. It should be for only a few dollars, like $10 or more because it is an OEM copy.
For the Office CD, if it came with the computer you could probably try to ask them to send a copy as well, although I do not know if your computer manufacturer did.
See you soon ~!

Which partition should I use to re - install Windows Vista? A partition is much smaller then the other.
Hello
you don't say how you are trying to reinstall vista
If you use a microsoft vista dvd you would normally select a CUSTOM installation that gives you the opportunity to see what partitiions are available, what size are they and what is currently installed on them etc.
It is then to you to delete the existing partition where vista is already installed and reinstall on the same partition or where you want to
We cannot see how your hard disk is configured
We can only give you general information on this subject
read the tutorial below well especially the steps below:
Now it's time to choose the installation type. Update or custom are the choice, but as you can see, in this case, Custom is the only option. There are two points to note. The first is under Customs where it says you can use this option to change the disks and partitions. This is true to a point. You can create and delete partitions and resize a partition using the command 'Extend '. The second thing to note is that if you want to 'Upgrade '. you need start the installation from Windows inside.
Once determined the type of installation, it's time to decide where to install Vista. As you can see on the screenshot options in this scenario are limited. There is a 20 GB hard drive and it is all unallocated space. If your intention is to return the entire disk in Vista with none of the additional partitions for other uses, all you have to do is click on disk 0, and then click the [next] button. The installation will continue.
etc.
etc.

I had to reinstall windows xp and 'rebuild' all that was a pain. now I have no sound, windows media player says I have no audio device, I look in Device Manager and there is a yellow! next to "audio device on high definition audio bus" and "sm bus controller". I loaded all the drivers from the dell cd and ran windows update several times without success. any ideas on how to solve what I imagine is a simple solution?

Tricky,
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I did a Google search on 'install' chip of Dell and found this site:
http://www.Dell.com/support/home/us/en/19?c=us&s=DHS&CS=19&l=en
This allowed me to identify the components and/or the 'missing' drivers and then download them. After a long installation everything works as before.
Thank you very much

I just reinstalled XP pro and I can't get the updates from the windows update web site. Whats up with this please help
There is no way that anyone might be able to help without more. My initial guess and it is just a guess, is that you have to update Internet Explorer .v8. Click HERE and download IE8 and install it. Try again updates once the installation is complete.

I reinstalled Windows Vista and now I can't run "repair your computer". I need to do this because I'm missing a few scripts. What should I do to fix this
Hello
Run the sfc/scannow command.
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833
Use the (SFC.exe) System File Checker tool to determine which file is causing the problem and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:
- Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click principally madeprograms,Accessories, right-clickguest, and then clickrun as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or clickallow.
- Type the following command and press ENTER:sfc/scannow
The sfc/scannow command analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions
If SFC detects the main problems it can't fix you may need to borrow a Microsoft dvd vista not an acer, HP etc. recovery disk and do a repair installation
read the below tutorial on how to perform a repair installation
