I tried running sfc/scannow and it does not - it keeps asking me for a CD and my CD in the CD tray

I am running XP Pro SP3.  I had to buy a Windows Genuine Advantage XP SP2 CD 3 years agao, because I bought a computer with an invalid CD... He was surprised when I ran the WGA tool. I ran sfc/cannow tool, but when I insert my CD of XP WGA (including SP2), I am invited to a different CD. Now, I get errors in my log window update such as:

I don't know that this is not what you want to hear.  However, from the beginning of your notes, you said that the system was installed with an invalid Windows operating system CD and since you bought Windows XP SP 2, which is the authentic product.  If I am wrong please correct me.

If you try to run SFC scannow from Windows XP SP2, you will continue to receive the request for the additional CD cover Service Pack 3.

If you have two options:

(1) do a fresh install with the Windows XP SP2 and upgrade to SP3 on sites I've proposed below.

or

(2) simply download the Service Pack 3 of one of the websites below and use this CD to finish the scannow SFC.

I think you'd be a lot better off takeing the time to back up all your important documents and files.

Go to: http://www.gtopala.com/SIW-download.html and download the free version of SIW.

This will give you at least with all the files and informaition about your device drivers that are currently on your system now.  I had the IT Pro version for years and would be with her.  I know that this version provide you all the keys for any product you may have and no password specified for email or the system.  I know that the free version will not provide passwords, but it can provide you with product keys. If you have lost or misplaced one of your applications can be valuable.  Most of the time, you can download the product if you have the key you're in business.

Errors that you receive above I think that you are still able to access the internet.  If yes I would like to download the SP3 since

Microsoft Downloads under: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=5B33B5A8-5E76-401F-BE08-1E1555D4F3D4&displaylang=en it's about 316.4 MB and it may take about 2 hours, but it is worth.

Of course, once this is done you should be able do a fresh install with the purchased Windows XP Sp 2 now you can install the Service Pack from Windows Update or make a CD from the above address or the ISO image from: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=2FCDE6CE-B5FB-4488-8C50-FE22559D164E.

I hope this has been helpful.

The only errors that are really me you listed above were the following.  That's why I take the time to backup and reinstall.

  • Problems with windows update, run sfc/scannow and boot into safe mode. (Vista Home Premium)

    Hi all

Please bear with me here that I try to explain all the questions I have with my computer right now. I'll try to explain everything that self-organization as possible, but if you need more information or file papers to provide a solution more precise, do it me know.

To start, I use a HP Pavilion dv6000 series (dv6748us to be exact) with Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit) installed. (Service pack 2). About 6 months ago I got this laptop from what I believe was the conflicker virus (kept forwarding pages, arrested updates and antivirus programs, etc.) and I managed to get Windows Update works again. My help and Support did not work well, it only worked in Mode without failure, so I did some research and tried a bunch of suggested corrections (update the registry, etc.) and got it work yet once again. I don't know if one of the tools that I used all by setting the Help & Support could have caused problems that I now (as I literally tried everything under the Sun until I got to work), but my Windows Update does not work properly again.

A few weeks ago, I installed some updates and restarted the computer, but updates did not finish install on reboot. He said the usual "Configuring Updates, do not turn off your computer", but never showed percentage complete or whatever it is. It restarted, and when I open Windows Update, he said the last time I checked the updates has never been (obviously not true), and when I tried to check the updates, it jumped right to the message telling me I have to restart my computer to complete the installation of updates. She continues to do everytime I open Windows Update. From time to time, I try to restart it, just to see if it will work, and he never does.

I spent hours trying all the solutions I could find in Google. I tried to run system update readiness tool, which seemed to run correctly (but does not solve the problem). I then tried the difficulty it for Windows Update, and it does not solve the problem. (It might be important for me to mention that I also have problems with the difficulty It Center itself, too. Individual tools like that for Windows Update is running, but the difficulty It Center program keeps giving me the error message that "a problem is preventing the troubleshooting tool to start.") I also tried to rename the pending.xml file, and then later I deleted it, after reading in another forum that you rename the file could cause system instabillity or something like that.

Unfortunately, I can't use system restore to solve all my problems, because all my previous restore points have disappeared (I don't know if the virus wiped out them, or if the computer removed on its own) but restore points only I checked are those that have been created recently, during the time I had these problems.

I tried running sfc/scannow nothing helped, as he continues to tell me that there is a pending repair, but repair pending never ends. I tried to use the command of /revertpendingactions of dism.exe/image:C\/cleanup-image in the command prompt of recovery center to stop it pending repairs, and that has not worked because it claims that dism.exe that does not exist / is not a valid command. No matter what I try, I can't have this pending repair or my updates to complete pending.

I tried to boot mode safe several times as well and he hung up on crcdisk.sys when starting every time.

Being that I can't use sfc/scannow, System Restore, or get into Safe Mode, I'm really lost as to what I should do next. I'm honestly not sure if the problems are related, but I just thought it would make sense to list them all in one place.

Please note that I don't want to re - install Windows Vista, or don't I think I need, because the computer works very well for most. (I use it for typing this right now). I had much rather bring all the features on mine, which I believe can be achieved with the help of the right person.

If someone could provide me with suggestions/solutions, it would be greatly appreciated! Certainly, it would relieve a lot of stress for me!

The right choice appears in the Applications. However it is to understand why photo selected for editing in iPhoto does not display in the elements.

    Hello

I can't open the Folio Builder and access or update my folios more.

Thanks a lot for your help

If you install the new Folio Builder Panel and continue to receive this error message, there could be a problem with your temporary files. Try to clear your cache folios. To do this on a Mac, exit InDesign and go to [user] > Library > Preferences > StageManager. [channel] > host Local, then delete the subfolders in the folder to the Local host. (If you're in Leo, your file system is hidden by default, but you can hold down the Option key and choose go > library.) Then restart InDesign.

CD looking for the file system (CFS) checker is the Windows XP installation CD.  If you need a CD with service pack 3, you must combine sp3 with a CD of full installation that includes sp1, 1a or 2.  If your XP CD is 'original' (i.e. pre-service pack 1), you will need to integrate sp2 (or sp1a) first, then the sp3.  Seehttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/322389

  • HP Pavilion Slimline 400: Cannot run SFC/scannow

I have a PC with Windows 8.1 x 64 which does not run the "sfc/scannow" command of HP Pavilion Slimline 400 desktop. When run from a CMD prompt window ("run as Administrator") the result returned is:

"Windows resource protection could not start the repair service."

I restored Windows 8.1 at the factory of HP with the same result.

I tried using 'Online Dism/Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth' and get:

Maintenance of the images of deployment and management tool
    Version: 6.3.9600.17031
    Error: 11
You cannot service a 64 bit OS with a 32-bit version of DISM.
Please use the version of DISK that corresponds to the architecture of your computer.

Anyone can get an idea as to why ' sfc/scannow' and the DISM command does not work?

    Thank you.

I suspect that the recovery partition is corrupt and that it would have to use HP recovery discs.

If you want to order and if you live in the USA/Canada, call this number 1-800-334-5144 HP and see if you can still get a set of recovery disks.

I have another solution that doesn't cost anything.  You can download and burn an ISO of Windows 8.1 from the following site.  He won't get the HP software or bloatware, is a commercial version.  Have on hand your license key:

If you can, back up your data.

  • I have a problem with the running SFC/scannow?

My computer is Windows XP Pro SP3. I want to run sfc/scannow, but was prompted to insert the CD of the operating system; my installation CD original authentic is Windows XP Pro SP1, which I've updated online to SP3. Does this mean that I can never run sfc utility because the two service packs are different? If you cannot run the sfc, is there a way to bypass the request for the installation CD? Is it possible for sfc replace the corrupted files or folders with a good the INF, I386 or Swsetup folder (forgive my ignorance)? I would be grateful to anyone offering a solution.

You will need to open regedit and navigate to-
    EntVersion entVersion\Setup

Double click on the "ServicePackSourcePath" key and change the value to read-
    %windir%\ServicePackFiles

We need to back up a bit and get more information...

Since the Microsoft Answers forum does not have any kind of information system request when a new question is asked, we know absolutely nothing about your system.  Not knowing the basic information a problem prolongs the frustration and the agony of these issues.

Thank you MS Answers, allowing the resolution of simple problems as frustrating and a lot of time as possible.

Provide information on your system, the better you can:

What is your system brand and model?

What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc..

The afflicted system has a working CD/DVD (internal or external) drive?

You have a genuine XP installation CD bootable, which is the same Service as your installed Service Pack (this is not the same as any recovery CD provided with your system)?

If the system works, what do you think might have changed since the last time it did not work properly?

What is the problem you are experiencing that you think that sfc/scannow will correct?

See if the remote procedure call (RPC) Service is running.   If it is not executed, it should run and many other things will not work if the RPC Service is not running.

To do this, click Start, run and enter in the box:

    services.msc

Click OK to launch the Services applet.

Locate the remote procedure call (RPC) Service and see what he says in the status and Startup Type columns.

If the RPC Service is not running (it must be), right click, choose Properties and see if you can start and change the type of start to 'automatic '.  If you make adjustments, click the OK button to save your changes, restart and make sure the settings "stick."

  • Is it OK to run SFC Scannow several times with days of each other?

    Vista Home Premium 32 bit

As if you run it and then he ran two days later. Does the operation close the last time things mess up?

Also does sometimes erronously indicate that the files are not fixed, when in fact they are fixed?

You have to reboot twice after running SFC/scannow?

    Safe to run.

A common false positive is a text file called settings.ini which stores the settings of the sidebar. If you have added a gadget or even started it the file will change, because it should remember your settings. SFC foolishly think it is corrupted.

Note that false positives are all files small text based content can change. If it points to a binary file (exe, dll, etc) then it is a problem because the binaries do not change.

If these two commands show nothing, then there was nothing wrong.

The newspaper regularly gets deleted because it is mainly used by Windows Update. So, run these commands directly after sfc runs.

You're right, it's too long to post here. I tried to send mine here. No go.

    I only suggest:

    1. use Windows Live Skydrive to transfer the cbs log. Then send us a link in the newspaper.
But apparently you don't have SkyDrive.

SkyDrive is free and is part of the Windows Live products. Consider installing it.
    Here is the link:

I have no problem sticking my cbs newspaper there.
