http://social.msdn.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/windowsdeveloperpreviewgeneral/threads

The Developer Preview of Windows is a pre-beta version of Windows 8 for developers. These downloads include beta software that may change without notice. The software is provided as is, and bear you the risk of using it. It may not be stable, work properly or work the way that the final version of the software will be. It should not be used in a production environment.

Netbook screen

If you have a netbook with a screen 1024 x 600 Metro applications will not work. 1024 x 768 is the minimum for Metro applications.

Several people have reported that Metro apps can be run if you connect an external display that is 1024 x 768 or more.

You can try this modification to allow higher resolutions:

  • WINDOWS 7 STARTER/ACER ASPIRE ONE UPDATE HELP

I have a brand new Acer Aspire One Netbook.  It is brand new, so after I did the initial installation for the new netbook, Windows 7 is an update.  When the update is complete, it blocks my netbook.  I get a black screen and a cursor only.  The only way I can fix it is to restore back to the factory and start all over again.  Anyone know why this is happening or that updates 62 is the cause? I basically can't update my OS until it is fixed or know where it is and it can check the updated list.

You say you have 62 updates. The only true way to know what update is the cause of the problem is by installing one at a time.

I was looking especially the optional updates as shows drivers etc. If you are offered drivers, you should consult the manufacturer's website to see if indeed you really need the updated drivers.

original title: Netbook Windows 7 problem

New computers coming often pre-installed with Windows 7 have what is called a recovery partition. This is used to reinstall an operating system in the case of a system failure. To access it, you need to start when you start your computer by pressing a function key. This can be either F1, F2, F9, F10, F11, F12 key DEL or tab. See the manual that came with your PC for instructions on how to reinstall Windows.

If your recovery partition is not available or damaged, you must contact the manufacturer of your computer, and request that a defined recovery disk you can use to reinstall Windows 7. They could practice a small shipping and handling.

Borrow a 32 bit Genuine Windows 7 friends DVD disc if you know someone who has one.

Make an image of the DVD, you can use a program like ISO Recorder to do.

If you don't have a Windows 7 DVD to borrow, try to upload a picture:

    32 bit
    http://MSFT-DNL.digitalrivercontent.NET/msvista/pub/X15-65732/X15-65732.ISO

You change the content of the. ISO file and delete the ei.cfg file. After having edited burn it to a blank DVD disc or put it on a USB key. Startup, it will reveal all editions of Windows 7, select the Starter edition. More information in the following article on how to change the file ei.cfg

  • Reinstall Windows 7 Starter Acer Aspire One D257

I have an Acer Aspire One D257. It has no built in DVD / Draw.  It came pre-installed with "windows 7 starter" I don't have a disc of recovery etc for this program. Last year I used widows any time upgrade to install "windows 7 Home premium upgrade," which has been installed via the internet by a Microsoft technician. Then I had the upgrade key sent to me by e-mail, what's left.  Later, I had problems with the computer and decided to windows 7 from re - stall. I visited the Microsoft site and downloaded the program on a USB Home premium windows 7 (32-bit).  I have this installed successfully in the D257 of Acer. But I was unable to activate with my key upgrade Windows 7 Home premium, for some reason any he does not accept it?  So now that I have a dilemma, I have a key that has cost about £76,00 for the upgrade that seems unnecessary.  Also, I am unable to revert to the original "windows 7 starter", as the system restore will allow me only to come back to a point in time that is after I installed windows 7 about 2 weeks ago. How can I fix this without having to buy another program again. P.S. I use an external DVD draw if I need. Can anyone help please.

Hi thanks for the info. Unfortunately, the recovery was wiped out when I installed the new windows 7. However, I have now solved the problem by buying a new product key that has been a success so now have windows 7 home premium installed and fully active. Thanks to everyone who tried to help me.

  • My Acer Aspire 571 e5 allows me to connect, but then I get a black screen and I see my cursor

    Hello

So my Acer Aspire 571 e5 which ive been using for about 3 days just had a windows update. Now, it starts well but I get a black screen when I connect. However, some programs are always able to see and popup randomly. I also tried to go into my bIOS, but it asks for a password that I don't know.

If you press CTRL + ALT + DELETE you are able to open the Task Manager?

    or try this:

    (1) once you are on the screen of login password, press on and hold down the SHIFT key and click on the power icon (lower right corner of the screen) and restart your computer... (Remember do not type a password)
    (2) you will get advance options. Click on troubleshoot---> advanced---> start---> restart settings---> and select SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING

    (3) once in office in safe mode, open Device Manager, click on the video card, right-click on it and choose unisntall

    (4) restart and check if it works

  • what caused the sound to stop working on my acer aspire one netbook?

I don't know what happened, I have no sound, I do not think that the netbook knows there is a map of its installed longer.  I have not removed any material, and only updates have been thanks to the automatic Windows Update program.  Just noticed one day that he was no longer the volume button on the office and could not play any music I had. What should I do to fix this? Literally worked day and no sound at all. Any suggestions?

Despite what certain MVP thinks, this problem occurs on the upgrade or update. Not to everyone, but every now and again.

Simply to re-install the audio drivers that match your Netbook on the Acer site.

    See you soon,.

  • Windows Vista - all programs 'stopped working' and nothing does not open. McAfee is also not working and help and support center does not even

On my windows vista computer, whenever I turn on my computer and log on, none of my programs work. An error message appears saying that the program has stopped working and windows will try to find a solution to the problem.  The problem is that the help and support center opens either. None of my internet programs to be open, and the same error message for all. We have tried to turn off DEP, and that did not help. My computer is connected to the internet (2wire) but is not able to run due to the problems with my computer. I scanned my computer with windows defender, and we found no problem. Help, please

    Hi Anna1298,

    ·         Did you do changes on the computer before the show?

Follow the suggestions below for a possible solution:

    Method 1:

Step 1: Start in safe mode and check if the problem persists.

Start your computer in safe mode

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

Step 2: If the problem does not occur in safe mode, you can put your system to boot (in normal mode) to solve the problem.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After troubleshooting, be sure to configure the computer to start as usual as mentioned in step 7 provided in the above article.

Method 2: Try the SFC (System File Checker) scan on the computer.

How to use the System File Checker tool to fix the system files missing or corrupted on Windows Vista or Windows 7

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

Method 3: I also suggest that you scan your computer with the Microsoft Security Scanner, which would help us to get rid of viruses, spyware and other malicious software.

The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Important: During the scan of the hard drive if bad sectors are found, the scanner tries to repair this sector, all available on which data may be lost.

Let us know if that helps.

  • Sharing network of Windows 7 64-bit problem: other machines may very well write, but the readings are extremely slow.

I tried to access to the shared both directory a Vista and XP machine via cable connections and wireless to my Win 7 64 bit machine on the part and it is extremely slow to read, but not written.  Not only the directory never takes show all thumbnails, and then open a file that is a couple mb in size as a photo takes more than a minute.  However, if I try to write the same file sharing, it takes only 5 seconds.  This fine all worked until I went from the version release candidate for the final version a few weeks ago.  Shared directories exist on another partition for the relocation does not have their effect.

Maybe it helps diagnose the problem... I just make a copy of a picture of 4 MB on the part of win 7 on my win xp desktop and it took about 1 minute.  I renamed the file on my desktop and tried to write to the share and it took 5 seconds .  Now, it's strange.  So, this is the bed that would take forever.  The Scriptures are fine, which also explains why my nightly backups on the part of win7 are very good.

I have a machine to hit the share by using the name of the computer and the other using the ip address.  Both show the same problem...

I also tried to access files using a mapped network drive.

I can take a 4 MB file and just copy it on my local desktop and it takes about a full minute.  However, written the same file or even another file of the same size as the part only takes about 5 seconds.

I ran the Windows 7 network troublshooter last night and used the troubleshooter for incoming connections and he says that it found a problem but that he could not fix and he really had nothing to help me.  But I think he sent the information in Microsoft... not sure.  Next time, I'm at home, I'll run again and try to put all the gross results that I could not understand in this thread.

I've also updated my driver for the network card and redone permissions and actions several times.  The only thing that I can also say that something can highlight, it is that when I was using the RC of windows 7, I don't have this problem at all.  It was my first installation of Windows 7.  I reinstalled from the final version and all of these files already exist on another partition on the same drive.  I just had to move my public and directories user space on the D: partition and share everything.  Maybe the new facility with something on the existing structures of the file works well with the new facility of the former?  But this does not explain why a new directory and file that create displays the same behavior.  I'm thinking out loud a bit to see if it helps that anyone think that anything...

    I thought about it!

At least for me, it was a setting in the Advanced tab of the network adapter.  I have a Realtek Gigabit network card and one of the places must have been missed incorrectly.

I changed the 2 following settings to "disabled", and he immediately started working very well.

    Disabled IPv4 Checksum Offload
People with disabilities large send Offload (IPv4)

I have a suspicion that among recent updates of Microsoft for this driver he missed bad... but it was this or the latest driver from Realtek.

    Update:

In other research I have narrowed it down to make it just the Large Send Offload value.  Is located on "activated" whenever I update the driver Realtek to the latest version.  If I then go and set it to "Disabled", everything works fine.
