I want my system to use MBR partitions not GPT. How?

I have a new laptop Alienware M18x R2 with Windows 8 Pro.  My drive configuration is as follows:

1 x disc 1 TB of OS HARD drive.  Set up as GPT.

data disk HARD 1 x 1 TB drive.  set up as GPT.

mSATA 1 64GB SSD x used as a getting started disc caching for OS disk.

My problem is that I use a very old ghost bootable CD BACK to start from create backup of my OS drive images.

I used this cd ghost from windows 98 up to windows 8 on my current desktop system, and it has ALWAYS worked perfectly. With my new laptop, it seems it is not compatible with GPT and does not correctly write to a GPT partition.

I accepted my fate that I will lose everything on both changing from GPT to MBR disks. I know how to change the second disc, but I don't know how to change the disk to the operating system.

Before doing something drastic, could someone tell me the following:

My computer laptop alienware with windows 8 must have GPT partitioned disks or MBR is okay?

I have a maximum of 2 partitions per disk, why GPT and MBR not?

How totally clean the 1 TB OS drive?

Where is initially set GPT partitioning for example BIOS or windows?

How to stop a clean reinstall of windows 8 from GPT partitioning again?

Thank you

In order to change the GPT on the MBR, you must delete all partitions on the drive and do a fresh install of the operating system.  This will involve a lot of time and effort.  Why don't spend it all $30 or so away a copy of 2013, Acronis, who CAN handle the imaging GPT disks?

If you get an error about "Can't fixboot", then proceed to the next step.

Type bootrec /fixboot (with a space after bootrec) at the command prompt, type enter.

Type bootrec /RebuildBcd (with a space after bootrec), and then press the Enter key.

If this is not successful, it is likely that the disc is not recoverable, and you will have to boot from the recovery disks to reinstall windows.

Your best option is to try to reinstall Windows 7:

    If Windows 7 is pre-installed:

New computers that come pre-installed with Windows often have what is called a recovery partition. This is used to reinstall an operating system in the case of a system failure. To access it, you need to start when you start your computer by pressing a function key. This can be either F1, F2, F9, F10, F11, F12 key DEL or tab. See the manual that came with your PC for instructions on how to reinstall Windows.

If your recovery partition is not available or damaged, you must contact the manufacturer of your computer, and request that a defined recovery disk you can use to reinstall Windows 7. They could practice a small shipping and handling.
    ------------------------------------
This is how the recovery partition is accessible to most popular brands...
For Dell, press CTRL + F11 directly after switching on the device
For HP, press F11 directly after switching on the device
For LG, press F11 directly after switching on the device
For Toshiba, press and hold "0" BEFORE and during the power upward
For Acer, press and hold ALT + F10, as soon as you see the logo
For Asus, press F9, as soon as you see the Asus logo.
For Samsung, press F4 to the power upward...
For Fujitsu, press the F8 key directly after the power
Advent, restart your computer. Then, press F10 repeatedly until the message "Starting system recovery"
Sony VAIO, reboot and press "F8" or "F10" repeatedly until the screen "Advanced Boot Options".

If you have a retail copy of Windows 7 installed, use your reinstallation disk to perform a new installation:

You can use another method/service with a third-party application such as the file manager or of Documents and eventually to achieve this goal. But with iCloud only, no.

  • I want to c drive partition, but it displays a message no MBR available free slots how it can be fix?

I have hp dv62127 laptop and I want to partition C drive in 2 discs but this laptop contains 4 primary partition and have that sees a message no MBR available free slots then how it can be fixed so that I could make 3 partion?

You can resize the Partition C: (to hot) and make the logical drives that it contains. You can not do more primary readers. There is a limit of four primary disks in a Windows operating system. The new logical drives will not be bootable.

    Be informed:

When you change the original partition scheme, you lose the ability to access the recovery with the F11 key Manager to recover your operating system.

A better option is to buy a second hard drive. Back up the data on your hard drive of origin so you can put it on the new.  Remove the original hard disk and perform a system restore using the recovery on the new hard disk media. With the original hard drive set aside in a safe place, you can still recover your laptop by removing the new hard disk and putting the old one back in its place. The method F11 to call the Recovery Manager will be available on the new hard drive. The original of your laptop hard drive is a SATA 2.5 "laptop that is 9.5 mm in height. If you consider a larger drive 500 GB carefully observe to the height. A 12.5 mm could not fit into the Bay.

Identify your laptop with the p/n (product name) indicated on the sticker attached to the bottom of the laptop, the following image is an example of service. You have published one incomplete and wrong model number format. There are two letters missing

should be on the end of what you posted.

  • I want to continue to use my current Vista operating system, but I forgot to turn it off before changing the parts of my PC. Now, whenever I try to turn it on, it says that the license is already in use.

Transfer of license with a twist

So I've recently upgraded to a new system... Virtually everything has been replaced - the motherboard, RAM, graphics card, processor... Everything but my HARD drive. I want to continue to use my current Vista operating system, but I forgot to turn it off before changing the parts of my PC. Now, whenever I try to turn it on, it says that the license is already in use.

Is there anyway for me to be able to turn it on for my new rig? Thank you.

If you have a retail copy of Vista, you must activate by phone.  Click Start, type "slui 4" and press ENTER.

    See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940315

If your copy of Vista is preinstalled on your computer, you can't use it with the new motherboard and you will need to purchase a copy of the license full of Windows.  Most of the editions of Vista out of support in two months so consider Windows 7.

  • Qosmio G35-AV600: using Recovery CD I get partition not created error

I recently ordered a recovery for my Qosmio G35-AV600 disc, because I started in safe mode to clear an alleged threat. Silly me! I forgot the password because I constantly use the fingerprint reader. Well, at the time where, that drives recovery came, I had remembered a password and access I.

The thing is I always want to format the laptop, but I get partition not created not errors. Is it because the laptop hard drive has SATA or RAID capabilities, or because of the so-called Qosmio player. * If I could format the hard drive, I would not be able to use the laptop Qosmio mode? *

I searched here and even contacted the customer service and have not found a definitive answer. Customer support's solution was to send to an authorized repair shop. My experience with computer repair shops, is that if the problem is not hardware related, they simply reformat the disks. I could do it myself if I could get help with this "partition has not created" or the partition not deleted"errors.

    Hello

I agree with you and I also think that this has nothing to do with the hardware failure.
But who knows, if you started the operating system in safe mode then we shouldn't exclude the hardware problem (IE. HARD DRIVE).

However, the restore CD contains already all the drivers and you n t need to install SATA or RAID drivers.

In my opinion, there are bad RAID settings in the BIOS!
Please check the settings in the BIOS on the third page.

If you know n t that mean simple settings, you open the user manual and check RAID chapter in the user manual.

  • Are there 3 partitions in iconia W510 win 8, primary, restoration and mbr partitions?

Are there 3 partitions in iconia W510 win 8, primary, restoration and mbr partitions? I'm freezeups and other defects. I tried recovery and saw what looked like 3 partitions. tried to format the C: drive then tried to reload the dvd.still system's glitches and lost 2 partitions I think. The dvd system to recharge the three partitions, I see only a concert now about 15 of 32 GB HDD?

There should be three partitions, there are questions that may appear if you try to use the reocvery disks without removing all three first. Since you are in the State in which your old system went to format C, just wipe the rest of the partitions off the power and run the DVD for a reboot to the original. It will create the partitoins suitable for you. Once everything is back now you can search here for suggestions about deleting the recovery partition (if you have several gigs in size) in order to free up space, because this partition is not necessary if you have the recovery DVDs.
