You can in the finder copy your library to EHD. Make sure that the EHD are formatted OS Extended journaled. Open the library in iMovie to make sure that it copied correctly.

Your post shows your PC than the execution of win10, but it comes preinstalled with Win8x.  This means that at some point, you've done setting at Win10 level, and unfortunately, that corrupts the information of HP recovery: HP Recovery Manager blocked after Windows 10 Upgrade - HP Support Forum's - 5170752

Once you do this upgrade, the ONLY way to perform a recovery after that use HP recovery media.

Ordinarily, I advise to use HP recovery media to restore your PC to its original state. That would erase the entire disk, format the drive and install the operating system, drivers and utilities HP.

Unfortunately, there is no support of HP recovery related to HP for your PC Product Page. This could be an oversight by HP, or it could also mean that HP stock is no longer the recovery media for your PC.

You can try to contact the HP customer directly, using the links below, to see if you can order them if:

  • Back-Up * two * computers with * a * external hard drive?

I have a Dell desktop computer and a laptop 6358.   Vista on the laptop, XP the other.

I would buy an external hard drive and use it to back up the two systems.

Is it not just possible, but easy to use?  I don't want a fancy coding project, as I am just a user

Other tips suggest it may be better to just get two separate drives, but I thought I would seek some straight dope here in the world of HP.

    Thanks in advance.

If the drive supports USB 2.0, then're you good to go.  If you need to save a file that is greater than 2 GB, then you can benefit with eSATA if taken in charge by your PC.  If you have up to 500 MB of data, then USB 2.0 would be an acceptable compromise.  Remember that the speed of transfer of files more small piles is much slower than a large file.  That's why I like to put important data in a partition logic extendend separate on the same hard drive and use an imaging program to back up this partition on CD, DVD, or another hard drive.  The result is a compressed image unique record about 1/2 the size of the source partition.

  • How to restore a back up on top of an external hard drive

Hello.  I just got a new laptop from HP windows 8 and you want to restore a back up I took my old HP laptop on an external hard drive.  When I plug the hard drive, the ups return display in the file Explorer, but I can't find a way to restore the backup to the new laptop, the only option I can find is to know how to put in place to save on the hard drive and restore the files that I've just saved from the new laptop.  There is nothing really on the new computer laptop so it doesn't matter if I lose these (and they are now saved when even!), its mainly pictures and iTunes on the back up, a few old excel & word files I think.  When I click on Explorer the external hard drive in the file, there is a PC owner icon that shows a folder named Backup set & the date, he didn't save folders of files for various dates, in the most recent are the backup files 1 & backup files 2, from 2012.

How can I get these on the new laptop?  I can't take another back up as the old laptop crashed and lost everything, where the need to get this back up to the new computer.

    Help, please!  Thank you

    Hello Jacq,

Thank you for visiting Microsoft Community.

As described in the question, I understand that you are unable to find a way to restore your backup of the old computer stored on an external drive on your new computer windows 8.

In earlier versions of Windows (Windows 7, Vista), you can use Backup and Restore to back up your files or create and use a backup or image system repair disc. Windows 8 and 8.1 gives you choices on how you can recover your PC and backup your personal files.

You can use the file history to back up the files on your PC in Documents folders, music, photos, videos and office and the OneDrive available offline on your PC. First of all, you need set up a historical file player and turn on the history of the files. For more information, see set up a drive to the history file. If your original files are lost, damaged or deleted, you can restore them. You can also browse and restore different versions of your files. For more information, see to restore files or folders by using the history file.

You can also view the Microsoft article below for more information about restoring your backup of the data on your new computer Windows 8.

I went in lightroom and can't find my photos. I lost the link before and did the right click to find and they have been found, but it's different.

I bought an external hard drive and copied some elements but did not cut their.  I did a back up on my external hard drive, but even once did not move them. I did the simple troubleshooting and it doesn't work.  I'm trying to find the original by right clicking the? on the folder LR and once I find the file it tells me that Lightroom has this file already in the catalog - and I want to merge. I tried one and it disappeared or moved. Help!

Use the file Explorer to see if the images are still in their original location. I suspect that move instead of copy them. This can happen if you drag you the.

I found that it is best to use either right click on a file or folder name and select copy then right click on the drive-destination folder and select Paste or use keyboard shortcuts to copy and paste folder and files from one disk to another. The keyboard shortcuts are the CTRL + key C to copy and Ctrl + V to paste in the selected destination folder-drive.

  • Windows 10 on pc itunes is on pc but my CD is on an external hard drive and I want to keep them there, but how can I get itunes to use does them everyone please have a fool proof statement

I need to download iTunes to use my CD which is on an external hard drive and would like to keep on it. Please can someone tell me just how to do this

My advice make a library of portable split is a general guide, but as such, it has all sorts of details that you may not need.

I guess you have previously installed iTunes such as library files were in the usual place of C:\Users\ < user > \Music\iTunes but the media were on an external drive, for example in X:\ < Media folder >, and no longer have access to the old library, or are perhaps new to iTunes, then so be it you will need to start over again. If, then hold down the SHIFT key when you launch iTunes. Keep now until you see a prompt to create or choose a library. Click on create and make a new library at the root of the external drive, i.e. as X:\iTunes , where X is the drive letter of the external drive. Once this operation is complete, use Windows Explorer to move the existing media folder within the X:\iTunes\iTunes Media, rename the folder that you moved as say other media to avoid any possible confusion in the future, select the menu with Ctrl + B bar and use file > add folder to library, to import the file to other media in the library. Will everything that iTunes adds to the library be shuffled around. All that remains in the other media will be happy that iTunes does not know what to do with such incompatible media or album art carried out by Windows Media Player. You can sift throigh this, take what you want and use replacements for all players what you keep.

If you need me to explain it further, do not hesitate to ask.

I have a laptop.  I need the computer for class of models. I have the elite external hard drive WD book.  I just want to know how to find out what fills my disk c. I have a lot of pictures.

    Hello

To see what fills your disk space on C:, try this free program:

    See you soon.

p.s. Check to you sure it is C: and D: not that you get the message on.

D: drives are normally the recovery Partitions, are 5-15GBs and should not be bothered with except to make recovery disks of.

  • Can I install Windows 7 on an external hard drive and then put it back in the computer as a hard drive internal?

Here's the situation, I reinstall Windows 7 on my laptop when it all of a sudden to stop. Now he cannot start Windows and only shows the Startup Repair tool. IM thinking if I can get my hard drive and put it in a hard drive enclosure and install windows in it as a hard drive external. And after installation, I will put the normal back on my laptop as a hard drive. Will this work?

Furthermore, I can't boot any disk installation because the built-in DVD player does not work, also I can not change startup option because I can't access the BIOS, there the password and I do not know. Please someone help! :( Thank you!

As a general rule, Microsoft allows not 'officially' most versions of Windows (9 x--> 7) to boot from an external hard drive.  However, there could be an exception to this rule.  eSATA pregnant use signals to 'SATA' HDD on an "external" port

  • Why import AVCHD properly storing sequences map (SD card) while the same images completely transferred to an external hard drive imports only the video with no audio?

I shoot on a Sony Alpha a65 and it uses AVCHD when recording. I have not met this problem before.

I transferred the entire contents of a memory card on my external hard drive.

I tried to import the images from the hard drive, both using the import media browser-only video clips are imported with NO AUDIO.

I thought that I had corrupted images as my memory card was images of two different rods. I turned one on 2 October and the other on 15 Oct (approx.).

HOWEVER: I then tried to import directly from the SD card - and it worked! Audio, video and all.

I can change this being, of course, but it's a concern I have obviously can't keep the SD card only for this sequence forever - and backup to external hard drive will not audio. That might mean that I won't be able to pick up on it in the future, if necessary.

Can you help solve this problem – that is, with the film which is not imported correctly from the external hard drive or why something is lost in the transfer - and explain why this happens?

Please note: I tried marqueeing everything and do drag and drop, as well as select and drag / move, when you transfer the images from the SD card to the external hard drive. I'm using a Lacie Rugged 1 TB (firewire option).

Maybe there's a hidden system files that are not copied.  You have "View hidden files" enabled and "do not show system files" in the Folder Options disabled?

  • How do I back up my files on an external hard drive XP please?

I tried the usual, start, Control Panel, system and maintenance, back up and Restore Center, to the high wire of files. But it is incomplete on my system, and the thread stops at the backup of files! Someone help please. I just want to have a record of updating my files if I lose my machine etc..

The best way is to use the file transfer Wizard.

Install the xp installation cd, click on "other tasks", click on FTW.

defined as "old pc", select settings file to save, save to a new folder that you

created, once through, move to cd or hd. However be careful, the amount is added. In addition, his

best to run FTW from the cd, even if his tools in. In addition, with a cd, you can install youre

data on any pc in your user account.

  • Unable to go back to my 2 TB WD external hard drive

I put to the top of my Windows 7 PC, less than 2 years, save each month at the end of the month.  Much to my surprise, he never did.  The drive, which appears on my computer does not appear on the Backup Wizard, and he said I'm not able to put in place a picture on it, so I can't use it for backup.  I reformat the drive twice, so I know that it works correctly.

After speaking with 2 technicians of Microsoft, where the first had disable me all my programs because I was getting the error message 0 x 80780040, I tried to back up again and almost stayed near the top all night to make sure that it worked.  It rose to 48% and said that he could not complete because of the same error as before.

The 2nd tech asked me to select only certain files from my PC to save, I did last night.  When I went to bed at midnight, he was 46%, and so I was hoping maybe this time it would work.  When I checked my PC this morning, he stopped again, this time with the error message 0 x 81000001.

I give up.  I had a PC for more than 10 years and even built my first, so I'm not a total computer illiterate.  A backup should not and never has been in the past, a major problem at all.

So, I spent 5 hours remain today, manually copy the files I want to be sure, on my WD hard drive.  It's the only way it will work.

I have read other messages from people who have had similar problems and tried these fixes, but nothing did.

Thanks for letting me vent... :))

Personally I have always used a third party paid for imaging utility, I use Acronis TI and its always worked for recovery if required
