If the old hard drive is still installed and running before you change on hard drives and you never received the to purchase recovery discs, you can make the recovery discs from the recovery Partition which should be on the old hard drive.   After installing the new drive hard SATA and windows installation, etc. and when it works to your satisfaction, put the 'old' drive as the secondary, transfer all the files and folders you need in the new C: / volume, using the option "send to."  Providing the old hard drive has no problems, then the format and partition the drive for additional storage.
