I want to limit the file sharing on a home network, Windows XP Pro (working group) to a specific user on a different computer.

I can't get this username entered with success because I'm limited to only users on the computer, I'm trying.  I have Windows XP off file sharing simple.  Both computers running XP Pro and I can share the folder, but it is open to ALL.  Is there a way to do this?

I would like to try to explain how it works.  You have XP Pro on Computer1 and you have disabled Simple file sharing.  It is a step in the right direction.  The facts are that the file exists on the computer 1 and is 1 computer to control what external connection gets access to this file.  Computer 1 can only validate combinations of username/password names he knows.  Is not in a domain, computer environment 1 includes only names of user and password that exists on the computer 1.  He cannot know or trust any combination of name of user and password that does not exist within itself.  The normal method, most people use is to create the same user on computer 1 that exists on the computer that connects and gives the same password that is used on the computer that connects to this user.  If this is the case, the external user connects seamlessly and have access if 1 computer gave this authorization to the user in this file.  Access can be controlled by right-clicking on the file or folder, select 'Properties' and then use the 'Security' tab to generate an access matrix.

Authentication: When connecting to the computer 1 from another computer, computer 1 search first if the username on the computer connection exists on the computer 1.  If the user name of the user on the computer connection exists on computer 1 and passwords on both computers to match, the connection is established.  If the passwords do not match, the connection is refused.  If the user name of the logged in user does not match a user on computer 1, then the 'Guest' user is attempted.  If the guest user is not protected by a, then the user will resemble the user 'Guest' and 'Guest' appropriate access.  If the guest user is disabled on Computer1, and then the computer connection displays a name of User/Login screen asking the user to provide credentials (name and password) 1 computer can use and recognize to check that the user.  If a name of user and password recognizes that computer 1 is entered, then computer 1 authenticates the user with this credential.

Of course, once authenticated, the user will have access to these files to which permissions have been granted to this user authenticated according to the KB307874.  XP cannot grant permissions to users, he knows not (obviously) beyond the 'Guest '.

Bottom line is that you have discovered in a domain environment (workgroup), you MUST authenticate as a legitimate user who is (and who is not disabled) on Computer1.

  • Limit the use of data on home network

    Hello

I currently have three computers connected to a wifi modem with two computers running vista and a Mac SL running. I was wondering if it was possible to limit the daily use of computer data? I have experimented with the settings of the router/modem, but there is no built-in feature.

    Modem: 2701 HGV - W (bigpond)

    Any help would be fantastic.

I have no idea on the SL Mac (you will need to post this question in a Mac forum or contact support Mac), but as far as Vista goes, certain limits can be defined in part by using parental controls and in part by using permissions (but it depends on exactly what you want to say that I am addressing the following).  No process will actually limit the use of network data (although they can help you to set other boundaries that can help).

In Vista, here is the procedure for setting up restrictions. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Set-up-Parental-Controls. Once you have access to parental controls, and then go to the section of deadlines and follow the instructions there (or for the other sections).  Technically, it's not a way to limit the use of data in itself - if by here you mean the amount of data accessed for a specified period (but you can limit the data that is used, what programs are available, what websites are allowed, when the computer can be used and several other things.  To limit the available data, you use permissions rather than Parental control, but well enough that is already treated as system implements security rights to prevent users other data and you can do this for any folder that you create outside profiles (while the file system are almost already protected - even on your part).  If you mean data over the Internet, then there is no way I know in Vista or IE which limit explicitly by the user.  Keep in mind that this will only work with standard user accounts as account administrator can simply replace the limitations or remove them all.  I know that's not what you asked really, but I thought that I should bring him as he is very much related.

Now for the good news that you want can be done with the 3rd party software free.  See the following:http://www.ampercent.com/control-internet-data-usage/4572/.  This seems to be exactly what you want and should do the trick.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

She will be able to keep all purchases on his account.  See this document:

Note that "all eligible songs, albums, movies, TV shows, books and applications already bought by members of the family are immediately available for everyone in the family."

In the future if she leaves the group sharing of the family, she is no longer able to share purchases, but she will always keep its own.

I think the bug has something to do with the partitions created with TrueCrypt.

Indeed. Make the truecrypt as removable disk volume in options of fixed the problem :)

The suggestion did not work for me.

I use Windows Home Premium and Truecrypt 7.1.

When the volume is "removable", an attempt to delete causes the prompt, "do you really want to delete the file without moving to trash? In response, 'No' causes the file to be left undone.

When the volume is not removable, an attempt to delete causes, command, the prompt "you want to move the file to the Recycle Bin?  I clicked 'Yes' the file disappeared from his record, but was not visible in the trash, even if the trash appears to have contained.  By clicking on "All content, restoring" the trash, has no effect.

Basket of content used to be visible and restoration-able.  I recently opened some volumes on a drive not used for several months.  Other that that, I can't say why the trash behavior has changed recently.

    Suggestions appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Colin

I suspect it has to do with the size of the 'file '.  When a file is larger than the preset size of trash, your options are to delete without moving to the trash.  No way that you do not want to delete it without moving it to the Recycle Bin, but if she's great that recycle it bin it cannot so it just happens.  If you say yes it removes without moving to recycle.

You can change the size of your trash by right click > properties > change size

I would like to apply a more efficient to organize the display of files, a similar to the options available via EXCEL.  I want to sort the files of desktop Windows 7 by type AND update... looks like it would be a logical way to view the files.  Currently, I can do one or the other.  Sort by modified date provides a hodgepodge of file types, sort by type will not most recently changed... organize a hodgepodge of dates.  You wonder why I felt it necessary to ask this... seems to be a simple and logical option which would already be available.  Is it?  If so, how can we do this?

I don't know where you see all sort in excel. The file > open in excel procedure uses this same kind as provided by the Explorer (its Explorer discovers Documents)

The view in excel is obviously filtered to Excel docs.

    Hi urs.boeschenstein,

Files are automatically saved in your online account when you use Acrobat.com online services. However, you can probably download the files on your computer, by selecting to https://cloud.acrobat.com/filesand then by clicking on the download icon.

  • Can I remove the file 'SaveData.mig' after I run Windows Easy Transfer?

Can I remove the file 'SaveData.mig' after I run Windows Easy Transfer?

I used easy transfer to move files from an old computer to my new about 12 months ago. The SaveData.mig file takes 22 GB of space on the new computer. I would like to remove it but I don't know if it will mess up all my files that have been transferred to my new computer. Anyone know if I can delete this file in order to free up space? Thank you

I agree with Mohdrafi - you can remove safely; However, you should have a more recent backup of your current files just to be on the right side (image FULL weekly backup and an incremental backup every day for an external HARD drive - I've seen too many people get burned when their drive hard breaks down or something worse and then they lose all their precious documents (, photos, audio and other files).  There ARE recovery procedures, but they don't always work, and they don't always get everything (especially if you expect to solve the problem or continue to use the PC in the meantime)- and depending on your version of Vista.  Delete this file will NOT affect the files and settings that you restored using the process.  Could have deleted it hours after that the process has been done (once you have a good backup) and it would have been very well then.  If you have a good backup, I can see no reason whatsoever to keep the file.

If the normal delete function in Vista doesn't work, try using one of the following free products to remove the file.  Unlocker to: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Unlocker.shtml or file Assassin http://www.malwarebytes.org/fileassassin.php (with or without forcing the deletion: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/12/27/force-delete-cannot-delete-locked-or-in-used-files-or-folders-with-fileassassin/). These programs often work when normal functions remove Vista not work correctly.

Congratulations to the use of Easy Transfer - this is a pretty cool tool isn't it?  Not sure how many threads that we have here people with issues or recoving given him--I saw a lot.  It seems easy on the surface, but when it doesn't work it can become quite complex and aggravating (and I know people who have unfortunately never were able to retrieve their data and settings no matter what we tried).

    I hope this helps.

  • How to open the files .fxm and .fxr with fax windows 7 & scan?

How to open the files .fxm and .fxr with fax windows 7 & scan?  These faxes have been received when I had Windows XP.

    Hello

A file with FXR and FXM file extensions is a Document received from WinFax.

You can open the FXR and FXM file by double clicking on it and let your PC decide which default application should open the file.   If no program opens, the FXR and FXM file, then you have probably an installed application that can view and/or edit FXR and FXM files.

You can use a Notepad or another text editor to open these files.  Number of files is files read-only, which means little matter file extension, a text editor may be able to view the contents of the file properly.  This may or may not be the case with FXR and FXM files, but it's worth a try.

How a FXR and FXM files:
There are two ways to try to convert a file to a different file type:

    a. open the FXR file in its default program and choose to save the file open in another file format.

    b. use a softwarefrom online file conversion to convert these files to another file format.

    Note:
using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.
