  • Can I use iCloud for storing photo backup?

Hello everyone, I was wondering if it is possible to use iCloud as photo backup storage. I have a lot of pictures on my OS 10.7.5 and save them on the cloud. Is this possible? is it possible even with an older version of iPhoto?

    Thank you friends mac colleagues.

    Ana

No iCloud by itself. You can save the images on iCloud drive, but then they are just images randomly without structure, unless save you them in a kind of files that will help you organize them in the drive.

If you want to archive and save photos, you should be import on your computer, or you must use a Cloud service of archiving such as Dropbox or Google Photos. It is the only way to store your photos.

  • How to use iCloud for storing the photos so I can free up space on iPhone?

My wife is running out of space on his iPhone 5s. She bought more storage iCloud to upload photos and then delete photos from his iphone. When she did, pictures disappeared as her iCloud account, lose the photos of the early days of our newborn!  How do we use the iCloud storage that pay as essential to store photos and videos, so it can free up space on his iPhone? Thank you!

You cannot delete the photos and keep them in iCloud photo library.

You can reclaim space on your phone with: settings > Photos & camera > optimize iPhone storage that keeps the smaller version, more low resolution on the phone and original version enlarged in iCloud.

You can use a service advantage cloud service like DropBox or Flickr 3rd.

The best way to free up space is to import them to your computer and delete what you don't need on your phone: iOS: import personal pictures and videos of iOS devices to your computer

Is there a way to restore my contacts and calendar to desktop from iCloud, save them, and then disconnect from the iCloud without losing my data?

    Hi sdb2013,

I understand that you no longer want to use iCloud for keep your data synchronized between your devices.  I'll include information here for troubleshooting iCloud, just in case you change your mind.  The first thing I would say is to make sure that your MacBook Pro is backed up via Time Machine and your iPhone is saved via iCloud or iTunes.   Then, take a look at the resources below that shows the steps to follow to back up all data you have in iCloud.   If you disable the iCloud as calendar features on your iMac, you will be asked if you want to keep the data on your computer.  It would be a starting point.

You can change the iCloud features you use on any of your devices by turning functions on or off. You can also disable iCloud completely.

When you disable a function iCloud on a device, information stored only in iCloud for this feature are no longer available on the device. If you turn off your Mail, Contacts, calendars, Notes, reminders, iCloud photo library or iCloud Drive on a single device, you can always review and change your information at iCloud.com and on another device you have set up for this feature.

In some cases when disable you a feature in iCloud on a device, you can choose to keep a copy of the feature on this device information. The copied information is not synchronized with iCloud. If you disable mail, Contacts, calendars and tasks in iCloud for Windows on a computer Windows, information stored in iCloud remain available in Microsoft Outlook, but it is not updated with your other devices.

  • Using iCloud for other files storage

    Hello

I bought an extra storage in the hope that I can save files other than those created by Apple applications. In particular, I want to back up all my photos that are currently managed by Photoshop, as I am a passionate photographer. I fight to see how I can use iCloud for anything other than files created by Apple apps.

Anyone know if this is possible?

    Thank you very much.

No, it is not possible. You can use iCloud for storing photos using the Photos app and iCloud photo library:

  • If I no longer use iCloud I lose all my photos stored in the Cloud?

I am undecided if I want to upload all of my pictures on iCloud photo library. I learned by others than if I always chose to no longer use iCloud for storing my photos I'll lose these pictures. Another thing, what I was told is that iCloud store pictures for awhile and then I won't lose them. I'm confused about all this, but I like to use my Apple devices!

I know that many of you, Apple lovers know how to use this program better than most, please offer advice that you may have!

    Thank you!!

I learned by others than if I always chose to no longer use iCloud for storing my photos I'll lose these pictures.

If you use iCloud photo library, you have two options:

    1. You can download your photo library in iCloud, but keep all original photos on your Mac as well.
    2. You can transfer your photo library on iCloud and enable optimization of storage.  Then you can save storage on your Mac, but you will need to download the originals from iCloud, when you want to edit or export your photos. You can change, if you have an Internet connection.

Without optimization of storage you can disable iCloud library anytime, because all the pictures are on your Mac. If you "Optimize storage", you will have to disable this option and wait for your photos to download it again, before disabling iCloud photo library.  See this help page: https://help.apple.com/photos/mac/1.0/?lang=en#/phtf5e48489c (last paragraph).

Another thing, what I was told is that iCloud store pictures for awhile and then I won't lose them.

This applies to 'My Photo Stream', not iCloud Photo library.  iCloud provides many services to be used with photos.  My photo stream is a way to transfer photos between devices.  It broadcasts photos between devices and implements buffer your most recent photos for a limited time, so that all devices can download new photos.  But this isn't a photo library in iCloud, see: iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ

If you have a large library of Photos, you need a subscription paid iCloud to transfer the full library.

iCloud library is useful if you have multiple Macs or mobile devices and want to keep the libraries updated on all your devices.  Or if you want to be able to access your photo library in iCloud from mobile devices, because you don't have enough storage on the device.

But it is not intended as a backup of your photos with a cloud.  You will need to keep a backup of your library of Photos as well.

See the following page: iCloud Photo library FAQ

  • is iCloud for storing long-term reliable?

For storing long-term valuable family photos?

It is an excellent product to store your valuable photos and videos, but notes, store them on all your devices.  iCloud is not a traditional backup cloud based storage platform.  In other words, you cannot remove photos from a device once they are stored in iCloud thinking you will save space this device because, once removed, it removes all devices.  If you agree with this, then sure, go ahead and use iCloud for your photos/videos.  If you are looking for a traditional backup cloud storage platform, consider these third party apps like Dropbox, Flickr or Google Photos (my favorite).  Good luck!

  • I can't use iCloud for backup of data from third-party applications

I use an iPod touch 6th generation and I wanted to use iCloud for backup of Twitter, IG, Pinterest etc. I've tried searching steps. So far I've been finding the same set of instructions:

Settings > iCloud > storage > select your iDevice > turn on apps you want to iCloud to save

But after clicking on the storage, I don't see that 'manage storage' and below, the option 'change of Plan '. Why does my iPod not not the option choose iDevice? I can see the option to save the data of integrated applications, but not applications, third-party. My iCloud that unit is on but my Photos under icloud is disabled. I really need the extra space. What seems to be the problem?

Click Manage store (settings > iCloud > storage > Storage manage and you see what moves backup iCloud storage.)

  • using iCloud for photos

Decided that I would try using iCloud for synchronization of photos to all my devices - ipad and iPhone.  A simple and way big to keep all the features of update of the sounds.  I followed all the directions for setting this up and find that this more complicated that we shouldn't.  I finally got some pictures in the library iCloud for my computer, but of course they do not appear on the iphone or iPad.  I apparently won't implement the iphone or the ipad properly.  I think I tried everything I could find on this operation, but nothing works. For some reason when on the iPad and try to access the iCloud.com with Safari, I get the message that the server is not responding.  When you do the same thing on the iPhone, it connects but it takes me to a window that says "Setup iCloud on this device."  Seems weird like iCloud is already on this currency.   Bottom line is that I spent hours too much try to do the job as well as to purchase more space icloud. I might have to overcome my 8 year old grandson to help me.

Yyou don't use iCloud.com to display your photos on your iPad and your phone, you use the Photos app with iCloud library active, just like the photos on your Mac.
