It seems you want to use iCloud photo library as an archive of photos. It was not intended for this use.

iCloud Photo library FAQ - Apple Support

It is designed to allow you to have full access to your library without having to choose which photos and videos you store on which devices because it connects to your library using iCloud to all your devices, you registered this service. You can choose the option to Optimize Storage iPhone, which will automatically replace your photos in full resolution with optimized for your phone free storage.  Such use allows to my 64 GB iPhone store more 18 000 photos and 877 videos with fast access on my iPhone and elsewhere, while occupying only 4.8 GB on my physical device. The library full resolution resumes of more than 112 GB of storage which I can access in iCloud.com, on my computer, or by requesting the download of contents of high resolution on my iPhone with that I will make.

Otherwise, if this does not work for you, you can use other services, such as Dropbox, archive your library, so you can completely remove the photos from your iPhone. If you deleted pictures from your iPhone now, they would delete the iCloud photo library so that he be kept in sync as your Contacts or Notes.

    Hi sdb2013,

I understand that you no longer want to use iCloud for keep your data synchronized between your devices.  I'll include information here for troubleshooting iCloud, just in case you change your mind.  The first thing I would say is to make sure that your MacBook Pro is backed up via Time Machine and your iPhone is saved via iCloud or iTunes.   Then, take a look at the resources below that shows the steps to follow to back up all data you have in iCloud.   If you disable the iCloud as calendar features on your iMac, you will be asked if you want to keep the data on your computer.  It would be a starting point.

  • Can I use iCloud for storing photo backup?

Hello everyone, I was wondering if it is possible to use iCloud as photo backup storage. I have a lot of pictures on my OS 10.7.5 and save them on the cloud. Is this possible? is it possible even with an older version of iPhoto?

    Thank you friends mac colleagues.

No iCloud by itself. You can save the images on iCloud drive, but then they are just images randomly without structure, unless save you them in a kind of files that will help you organize them in the drive.

If you want to archive and save photos, you should be import on your computer, or you must use a Cloud service of archiving such as Dropbox or Google Photos. It is the only way to store your photos.

  • Use iCloud settings shuts off when I opened the Pages and Numbers

I have docs Pages and Numbers in iCloud (no road to iCloud) I want to access. There, they were stored on my old iPad 2 current running iOS 7.1.2 2.2.2 Pages and Numbers 2.2.2. I do not use iCloud Drive, just the 5 GB of storage free iCloud.

On my new iPad 2 Air 2.6.2 performer 9.3.2,and 2.6.2 and number Pages when I opened two app, their desktop computers do not show the docs to iCloud. When I go to the settings in the applications of bot and activate using iCloud, as soon as I open an app, when I look in settings, with the iCloud button automatically turn off the coast. The only pop-up menus to choose from for iCloud on the new iPad 2 Air must use iCloud Drive, which I don't use.

Is there a certain limitation in these apps that only allows to use iCloud drive and not the 5 GB free iCloud I use?

Tips on how to connect to these docs Pages and Numbers in iCloud on my iPad 2? I know that I could email them to me, but that would be a lot of work.

You do not use more of your space free storage on iCloud by using iCloud drive. iCloud Drive is simply the latest, most updated to access your documents in iCloud iOS 9.

I suggest to turn it on and use it.

  • Supprimer delete photos on iPhone, keep on mac using ICloud?

Hello! How do I remove photos from my iPhone and always keep them on my mac? I use iCloud and have about 50 GB of Photos on my phone. My plan is bigger than that, but again, I don't want to have that many photos on my iPhone (but keep them on my mac). Is this possible? I tried to import on my Mac, but it doesn't show me all the pictures are on my phone. It shows me about 3000 instead of 11000... TIA

    Julievite g ' Day,.

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support.

I see that you want to remove photos from your iPhone, but still keep the photos on your Mac. Use the article import pictures and videos from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to import all the photos from your iPhone to your Mac, more specifically, this section:

    Import into your Mac.

You can use Photos for OS X to import photos from your iOS device to your Mac without using iCloud photo library. This procedure also works for the import of images from digital cameras and SD cards.

    1. Connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or digital camera to your Mac with a USB cable. If you use an SD card, insert it into the SD slot on your Mac, or connect using a card reader.
    2. You need to unlock your iOS device using your access code. You can also see a prompt on the device iOS asking you to Trust This Computer. Tap the confidence to continue.
    3. On your Mac, the Photos app automatically opens. If not, open the Photos app.
    4. The Photos app shows a screen of import with all photos and videos that can be found on the connected device. If the import screen does not automatically appear, click the Import tab at the top of the Photos app, or click on the name of the device in the sidebar of Photos.
    5. To import a selection of photos, click the ones you want, and then click Import selection. To import all new pictures, click Import all Photos again.
    6. Once the import is complete, a message asks if you want to delete or keep the photos on your device. Click on remove items to remove photos or click on keep items to keep them on the device.
If you select keep items, you will need to remove them directly from your device when you want to remove.
    7. You can now disconnect your device from your Mac. If you imported photos from an SD card or USB, safely eject the device first device.

Imported photos appear in the album last import of the Photos app.

Photos and videos that sync you from your computer on your device iOS through iTunes can be imported to your computer.

Know what to do If you can not import pictures from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer.

Once you have made sure all the photos have been imported to your Mac, you can then safely remove them from your iPhone. The iPhone user guide has the steps to remove photos from your iPhone, in particular, this section:

Delete a picture or video from pictures. Click on the Photos tab, tap the photo or video, press on , then press to remove the Photo or video delete. Deleted photos and videos are stored in the album recently deleted on iPhone, with a badge showing the remaining days until the item is permanently deleted from the iPhone. To permanently delete the photo or video before the days expire, tap the item, tap on delete, then remove the Photo or video delete. If you use iCloud photo library, deleted photos and videos are permanently removed from all your devices using iCloud photo library with the same Apple ID.

  • Is it possible do not use iCloud?

Somewhere around IOS 9.3.1 it seems impossible to use my iPhone 4S without using iCloud. I cannot accept the terms of service to iCloud and won't be using iCloud, but it seems now that I can't install 9.3.2,and I can't sync my calendar between my Mac and my phone and I am presented with a contract about iCloud TOS screen 5 times a day. I'm not, and I never want to iCloud, but it seems to now use it or lose a lot of functionality.

If I agree to service, can I make sure that absolutely none of my friends are stored in iCloud? According to my interpretation of the agreement, it seems impossible.

Ban all this, is it possible to go back to an older version of IOS? I never would have used this phone if I had to accept at first, but now it seems that I must accept it or lose key features.

    Thank you!

First of all, there is no 'legitimate' way to downgrade a version of iOS.  Don't try to "jailbreak" your phone.  Ask for trouble.

As far as I know that there is no reason why you SHOULD use iCloud, but, as you say, you will lose the major feature.  I follow the last section of this article:

    iCloud: use iCloud.com

and make sure you have signed-out icloud of every device you have (although if I read your post right, you've never signed in).  On your iOS iOS device 8 or 9 go to:

Settings > iCloud > Backup, then turn it on iCloud backup (and everything else), also (for good measure) go to:

Settings > general > storage & use iCloud

and manage storage ICLOUD and make sure you have everything off here.

I consider your backup a backup for my iTunes backup.  So for me, the worst of not having an iCloud account is not able to use the functionality of theft protection to locate my phone, but it's your choice.

Photos imported in a Photo as Photos or iPhoto app are stored on the Mac

The library of iCloud is a synchronization mechanism which keeps a mirror image of the contents of the devices - in other words, when you delete something from the iPhone - it will be deleted the rate so
