iCloud Drive - storage or not?

I have 50G of storage iCloud.

I took the pictures on my Mac and moved in iCloud Drive for storage.

Then I deleted the photos on my Mac because they took too much space.

Now the photos on storage iCloud went too.

Thank God I have them backed up reader Amazon.

So iCloud storage disk for files and pictures so I can free up space on my Mac or what?

I don't understand.

Thank you

Bill

I don't know how you managed to delete icloud drive by removing your Mac in the way you describe, however. all documents in iCloud drive are duplicated on your Mac, even if they are hidden.

There is no practical way to do it.

If you do not enable iCloud Drive on your Mac, you can upload files to iCloud by car via the web interface at https://www.icloud.com

But you can access the files from the web interface and won't icloud drive as drive in the Finder.  You cannot use the Finder to access the files. You need to download it to use.

In any case, to keep my pictures and videos on iCloud drive so that I can view by device at any time?

iCloud drive isn't the answer to your problem. You must use iCloud photo library and enable optimization. (settings > photos & camera)

  • Container of notes in iCloud drive deleted by mistake

After many sync problems with Notes, I decided to start from scratch. I backed up all the notes on my Mac, disconnected all iCloud drive and then removed from the Notes container in stock to manage devices. It was clearly a mistake - I realize now I should have deleted the data inside of the container. Initially, I imagined that when I went on iCloud sync on one of the devices (Mac, for example) the container should be recreated automatically. Of course, it was not. Mac and iPhone are both showing some iCloud Notes - I entered the data from different test on both devices - and sync turns ball is encouraging. But no synchronization takes place and no container in managing storage.

I checked Time Machine to see if I could find the container but the contents of the iCloud drive seems to not be recorded (unless I'm missing something or do not wait long enough).

So I need to recreate the container, if possible. Is it possible to do it without having to reinstall OS 10.11.6?

I'm not sure I know what notes, your average container. I have no record of notes in iCloud drive or system preferences > iCloud > manage, I don't see where else you would mean that if you were opening the hidden locations.

  • iCloud Drive - save the storage space on Mac

is it possible to save space on my iMac with iCloud drive? For example, if I wanted to save all my pictures on iCloud drive but do not waste space on my mac hard drive, is this possible? Well this isn't

You'd be better served with a different service, try DropBox or one of its imitators.

I ran out of space on my MacBook Pro (7.28 GB from 250 GB), and to solve my problem of storage, I leaned in iCloud drive.

Thanks for any help you can give!

Yes, if you add files to iCloud by car they are stored on your hard drive, as a work around, you can disable iCloud drive and access it through your web browser to iCloud.com > iCloud Drive, it does not use your hard drive.

  • icloud drive doesn't sync from my PC

iCloud drive is simply not sync with my PC.

When I open iCloud drive in Windows and then open icloud.com (OR on my iPhone for example) there are a SEVERAL files and folders that I created in Windows but that exist all simply not icloud.com (OR on my iPhone for example).

There are SOME files that I created the MONTH there, who are just not there.

When I check on iCloud for Windows, it does NOT there are currently all the files being downloaded.

It says "update 04/27/16, 12:15 (THREE days ago)."

It is beyond humor to Apple to simply have a "PC refresh" option within the iCloud for Windows program?

    Without hope.

    Hi jon_leigh,

I understand that the files and folders that are created on your Windows PC are not always appearing on iCloud.com or your iOS devices. Fortunately the steps below can help to restore the functionality between your PC and iCloud.

What happens if my files don't upgrade to iCloud?

    Check these things first:

If you have tried these steps and your files do not download to iCloud:

    1. Stay connected to iCloud.
    2. Save your updated files to another folder on your Mac or PC.
    3. Contact Apple technical support.

  • Should I use iCloud drive to share documents with a member of the family?

My wife has retired and is buying an iPad Pro to replace his work computer.  It is not an advanced user.

If she wants to keep a document, can send it to my iCloud for storing drive?  Works the family shares in iCloud drive, as in iCloud?

I am less interested in sharing music etc to save some documents.

    Thank you.

Well, it depends on how the device is connected. It has its own ID-Apple/iCloud? I would recommend that it should have its own, as sharing an iCloud or Apple ID may cause Messages, FaceTime, Notes, virtually everything to share between the two phones. Most people find it quite annoying.

If it is signed with the ID Apple/iCloud then she would need to set up and use his own iCloud drive - it is not a part of the family sharing.

If it is signed with your identifying Apple/iCloud, she can use your iCloud drive.

You can also send your request of family sharing support iCloud drive from Apple here, if you wish: Apple - Feedback

    I already did:

Alternate market the iCloud drive and for each application, I was trying

Open a session and of the iCloud account

    Reset the phone

    Turn on/off

Any that have faced this problem or have any idea of how solve it?

Thank you very much in advance for the comments and support.

    See you soon,.

    DOM

Just to be clear, iCloud backup & iCloud drive are essentially two separate things.

This can be useful, iCloud is primarily a service synchronization. Means that it can take the changes you make on one device and other devices to update this change if you do not have to be done individually on each device. Useful if you have more device. iCloud Drive is the term used for the part of iCloud that can synchronize files between your devices, just like Dropbox. iCloud backup is the backup of live data to iCloud part. Sync services aren't backups, just a way for your data reach another device.

On your iPhone, if you go to:

Settings > general > Srorage & use iCloud > manage storage (under iCloud) > [phone] (BACKUPS)

You can see what data is stored for each application (Tap 'Show all Apps' if necessary).

  • iCloud Drive not download

For 3 weeks, whenever I put a new file in my iCloud drive in the Finder on my MacBook Air, it will not download. The process starts but it stops near the end. The little loading circle is almost full, but all my new files are download for 3 weeks. Am I the only one having this problem or is it a problem with the iCloud servers?

    Try to restart the Finder.

The command, Option + ESC shortcut keyboard will bring up the force quit window. Select Finder, and then click on restart.

Or, go to the Apple  menu and click on force quit menu drop down > Finder > restart

If that doesn't help, check your iCloud storage > manage your iCloud - Apple Support storage space

  • iCloud Drive and confusion of local storage

I'm quite confused on iCloud drive works. I had assumed that it could be used like any other option storage file, for example a connected locally external hard drive. But apparently not exactly. Here is my request:

I have a huge (hundreds of gigabytes) Aperture library. Since it is much larger than the storage available on the SSD in my Macbook Pro, I have it on a classic 1.5 TB external harddrive. But I want to save the library to a cloud off-site storage site so that if my house burns down, accidents of HD or someone steals, I have not lost anything. But as I copy files from my drive hard external to iCloud my internal SSD drive fills up completely and the backup finishes. It's a mystery to my as to why iCloud drive isn't teated by OS X like any other volume "attached" to which I can copy or download local files.

My first question, then, is it really how it is supposed to work? If so, my second question is: can someone explain the logic behind this behavior? My last question is: is there some way that I can install iCloud drive on both , my external hard drive and my drive internal, but both have the same account iCloud?

Thanks in advance for all advice and counsel.

iCloud is a synchronization system, not an external storage system. If you delete them from the computer/device they will be deleted to iCloud. The files are stored locally on your hard drive that you have discovered.

I can't explain the logic, but this is how it works.

Send feedback to Apple. They will not respond, but at least know that there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it can become the problem solved as soon as possible.
