  * the user's library would be hidden by default, you need to go to view > show hidden files to see.

  You can add the icloud drive to Favorites once found in Bridge.

  You synchronize these photos with your iCloud photo library?

  If so, you won't see them in your iCloud drive. The library and iCloud drive are 2 separate areas.

  Don't you have optimize activated? It takes much more time for a large library like yours.

  Your download speed depends on your wifi. It is generally not as fast for most users as the download speed.

  I am trying to find a solution of 100 GB storage of photo files and video, all structured in folders, on a Macbook running El Capitan. I'd take it with an iPhone.

  I want that all the pictures to move OFF the macbook in the cloud somewhere in space. I don't want their synchronized everywhere - this is why the new Photo app does not seem to do the trick. I looked at Flickr, but will not store video files to m4a.

  iCloud is a synchronization system, not an external storage system. If you delete them from the computer/device they will be deleted to iCloud. For the computer, go to preferences/Photos/iCloud and select optimize. That will reduce the space required by 90% when it is fully effective.

  Messages for OSX is very basic. You cannot navigate to the iCloud drive to get a file to attach.

  You can however, as you can see, push a file to iCloud drive to the Message using the share menu on iCloud drive.

  That is how it is designed. The iOS app is similar, but you can attach a picture here but only from the photo app or the Photos app, once again, not iCloud drive.

• Can I download originals to iCloud for mac before move library of photos on external hard drive

  I moved my library of photos from my laptop on a thunderbolt 2 TB external drive. I opened pictures (option click) and chose this place to open.   When I look at the size of the library of photos in my pictures folder, it is about 12 GB - there is also an iPhotos library in the images folder which is 63 GB. I think I have to combine these files but don't know how to do this. If I also moves the iPhotos library to the new external hard drive which will be done automatically. Obviously I have not deleted the folders in the library on my Mac until it works.

  They must synchronize the external disk if it's where you said Photos your library is (that you have).

  Backups on iCloud cannot be read or used for anything except to do a full restore. If you have settings > iCloud > Photos > iCloud enabled library, pictures are saved in the Photos app on iCloud and are visible on the phone via the Photos app (the same photos are on the phone and iCloud). You can use a computer and connect to https://www.icloud.com/ and see the various sections/Apps iCloud to get a better idea of what is in iCloud Drive and what is not.   I was forced into upgrading my iCloud storage as my iphone backup did not fit into the franchise of 5 GB (note to apple, you really should at least allow a free backup outside the allocation, im, buying a $1,000 phone each year is the least you could do)

  Anyway, I now have an allowance of 50 GB and I'm only using several GB for my backup so I will try to find reasons to the mother to use.

  I just had a thought, perhaps I could store the photos in the reader that I am not wanting in my camera... sexy holiday snaps for example.

  But oh my God not... I can only send ONE photo at a time. The minute I select more than the option 'Send to iCloud Drive' disappears... are you kidding me! I miss the time with the iPhone that whenever I thought of something I want to do, I try and "it works".

  I'm under MacOS Sierra. I am connected to my iCloud account. I activated the option Desktop and Documents, but I did NOT activate the option optimize Mac storage, because I wanted to make sure that all my files would be available locally, just in case, I would need to work without an internet connection.

  -J' noticed there now a menu iCloud in my sidebar in the Finder, with links to Documents and desktop.

Which suggest that records and records of office reside actually still in my home folder under users, but Finder actually hide it and present them as being stored in iCloud only disc.   -In the first place, why Apple hide Documents and office files in the directory? Why not view these folders in iCloud and directory?

  -Whence the iCloud folder or drive, reside actually on my hard drive?

  -What time Machine. Is it still back up my document files and folders?

  -What games third-party app mirroring backup of My Documents files and folders? They still work properly? (I use Livedrive backup and Sugarsync for files mirrored across several macs).

  -How can I understand that Apple is doing with my folders and files? Some users might be happy with the iCloud drive concept, without worrying about how it works, but I don't take chances, and I want to keep a good understanding about the functioning of my system.

  With office and selected Documents, access to these files are now in the iCloud Drive, not in your home folder.

  My guess would be that they do not appear in your file because it would be confusing for many people to make them in two places.

  If you want in the Favorites, open iCloud Drive and drag them in the sidebar here.

  All about iCloud drive has been saved on your Mac. With the exception of the office and the Documents, they are in ~/Library/Mobile Documents. However, if you choose optimized storage, older documents are removed from your Mac. I don't know what is "old".

  ~/Documents and ~/desktop have new metadata indicating probably Finder does not display them in a Finder window, only in iCloud drive. They are not hidden in one of the normal methods of unix.

  I have not tested Time Machine or any other backup program. The folder still exist in your directory home, and they still have all the files, I don't think that changes anything.

  I want to use iCloud drive to share some of my photos with my mother. I used Dropbox for that so far, but now that I have the upgrade to 50 GB of storage iCloud, which seems the best choice.

  However, unlike Dropbox seems only able to select one photo at a time for iCloud Drive (Photos > select > add to iCloud by car). Am I missing something here?

  First, iCloud drive is different from your photo library from iCloud, and your photos are stored in the second, not the first.

• Alias files no synchronization in iCloud drive

  I use iCloud drive to keep all my synchronized and accessible files between my Mac and iPad.  I found that the alias files I use in the system do not appear in iCloud.com or other computers.  I use the alias feature to reduce the file size on my computer for my genealogy Articles.

  Does anyone know a way around this or what I could do wrong?

  ...? How did this the size of the file downwards? Aliases are just a pointer to the original file, to remember anyway. Even if you were able to synchronize alias through with other devices, they are meaningless, unless the file is also present there and in exactly the same directory and structure under the same username as on the first computer (which will not apply on an iPad). I don't know about the specific case of iCloud and alias but another sync service do not handle their property for this purpose, so I would not be surprised to see that they have been blocked.

  Describe the problem and include details on what seems to make it.

  The Macbook was working a little slowly. It seemed a good idea to transfer files to the player to iCloud from various places on the Macbook. I created a folder, XXX, within the iCloud drive. I did drag elements of 2200 (displaced), approximately 1.8 GB total for the XXX folder. The files successfully on 15 minutes, no files in the source folder. Disk utility showed that I had lost free disk space, to about 14 GB on the Macbook.

  Use the Finder to open the iCloud drive showed two points of interest:

  • Circle of pie next to iCloud Drive. The pie chart had a white game, with most of the gray.
  • At the bottom of the window in the Finder to iCloud drive notification: 8 items, 15 GB available, download 2 235 elements (1.84 GB 1.94 GB).

  Since the transition to iCloud Drive 18 hours it is, nothing good is felt. Notification of message like above remain unchanged.

  Accessing the iCloud drive through another computer, using iCloud.com on behalf of the Watch:

  • 79 items in the folder XXX (when there should be a more another 2000 points)
  • No element contain subfolders of the folder XXX
  • 4.54 GB available

  Already tried troubleshooting steps

  • Rebooted computer MacBook twice
  • Patiently waited all night for computer complete the download sync on iDrive
  • Use disk utility to repair disk

  No temporary miracle identified.

  The main solution, apparently, is "Call Apple Support". I note that there are several recent complaints in the same direction. Maybe something changed with the implementation of iCloud Drive in August 2016?

  Indeed, I see my files in there, but I'm confused why these files have not been restored to the new machine and instead the entire library is to be re-uploaded. Fortunately, I had ~ 2 GB, but it would take hours for a larger library.
