    kseebold,

It seems that you have a file or a driver that is corrupt. Sometimes the file or drive may be hit if she isn't bad corrupt. I suggest that you BACK UP all your data. Here are some things you can try CHECKDISK, SFC SCAN, and ChecKSUR.

  • Colors in Windows 7 too bright/faded after running Windows Update for the first time (everything was going well after initial installation). See the details.

I just installed Windows 7 Pro on a HP Pavilion with a HP w2007 20 ". I have had no problem of color first and everything worked fine. The first time I ran Windows Update, it included an optional update called "HP - display - HP w2007 LCD wide screen". That the update "has failed" to install and when I rebooted, my screen had a look very 'neon' - my desktop background, a picture of a tree with a bunch of Red leaves, was very washed out and now most of the leaves were bright red with no visible details. This is obvious everywhere, not only my desktop background (another example... small green circles next to the names of Gmail chat contacts are very bright green, more even than usual). Everything is too bright. I tried the following hotfixes:

-Manually reinstall the update of the HP screen (it worked this time) and restart - did not work.
-Reset my monitor to factory setting - has failed.
-Download and install the latest HP driver for this monitor - did not work.
-Through: "Control panel-> appearance and personalization-> display-> Calibrate color" and through an assistant color calibration (that's new for Windows 7?). Also, did not work.

I have the dual-boot of Ubuntu installed on this machine and I think the colors under Linux are always very well, so I think it's a problem with Windows and not the monitor. Because it was working fine before, I would rather try to get everything worked, rather than the update manually the brightness/contrast of my monitor. Any ideas?

A useful answer, I got on another forum (windows7forum.com). It worked:

    I had this problem too!

In my case it is also explained by a driver from Windows Update called "nVidia display".

Fortunately, I figured out how to fix it:

    1. Open Computer Management (start > right click on "Computer" > Manage)
    2. Select "Device Manager".
    3. Select 'show cards '.
    4. Right click 'NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT' (or whatever your video card)
    5. Click 'properties '.
    6. Select the 'Drivers' tab

    Hello

Welcome to the Forums Community Microsoft and thanks for posting the question.

According to the description, you get an error message "FAILED CONNECTION USER INIT" after installing Windows updates.

From my research, this problem occurs if the Userinit key in the Windows registry has been changed. For example, this problem may occur if the Userinit key has a value, but no binary data.

I suggest you follow the steps mentioned below.

    Method 1:

Step 1: Start the computer in safe mode

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

Step 2: Check the value and binary Userinit registry data

Important: The following instructions contain the steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information, view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

    Back up the registry
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/back-up-the-registry

    a. start Registry Editor. To do this, click Start, type regedit in the search box and press ENTER.

    b. click continue.

    c. Locate and then click the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

    d. in the right pane, right-click Userinit, and then click change.

    e. in the value data box, type hard disk:\Windows\System32\userinit.exe, and then click OK.

Note: The placeholder of the hard drive refers to the drive on which Windows Vista is installed.

    f. close the registry editor.

    g. restart the computer.

    Method 2:

Restore the system to an earlier point before installing this application.

System Restore can return your files system to a point in time before you noticed a problem, without affecting documents, photos, or other personal files. If the system restore does not resolve the problem, you can undo the restore operation and choose a different restore point.

  • CODE 80072EFE: cannot run windows update

I had some problems with my computer Windows Vista - Business Office.  Here are the ones I've noticed so far.

    1. I can't run windows update, I get error code 80072efe when I try.

    2. I get continuous popups.  Not all the time and not every time I have a Web browser open.  Sometimes my browser will open only to Web sites at random, for most of the sites trying to sell me something.  I've just close it before it ends even loading and it will be generally fine for awhile.

    3. on my desk, I'm going to organize my icons where I want that they around my screen (work icons in a spot programs, browsers/email in another, records of files on my second monitor, etc.)  Whenever I restart all my icons automatically group either by date or name, and I have to go through the re-organization.  (This one is obviously not really important but I thought that I list all symptoms).

    4. I tried to do a system restore, my computer has a restore point when you start if you press F11 on the scree of HP (or enter the boot menu by pressing F8 or F5, etc) and it will not allow me to enter this screen.  I can't enter the menu start and any other menu it lists on this screen, but the system restore seems to be disabled in some way.

I tried to run the scan on windows.live.support (or whatever the site is) and he found a lot of problems and 1 question he couldn't solve, so now I'm stuck.  I tried running malwarebytes scan and it does not pick up any viruses.

    Any suggestions?

  • Error 80072EFE when you run Windows Update on Win7 so wireless

You try to run Windows update on a new laptop from Toshiba with Windows 7 installed and a good wireless connection to a router I get error 80072EFE rather than a list of updates. If I connect directly to the router the updated list comes through fine. I can then unplug the router and download updates more wireless.

Initially I was running tried to reinstall as 32-bit, 64-bit Win7, but made no difference. Tried to update after I just installed Win7 before Norton and other applications on. Contacted Belkin and they gave me a checklist of the router to do, but not better. Someone at - it ideas? The problem is reproducible even with Norton and other installed applications. If you connect the router updates Windows detects the updates to install. If you work with wireless it gets error 80072EFE.

    Phil

If I connect directly to the router the updated list comes through fine.

Until you get your wireless connection problems straightened, run your manually check updates when you are connected to the router.

An interesting sidenote, if we try to navigate to update.microsoft.com in a browser, after a long break, we get a banner at the top of Microsoft, and three empty frames all display connection errors.

We tried different DNS servers, we bypassed the firewall, we tried all possible parameters in the network configuration of PCs, we tried to define the parameters of Internet security at the lowest level possible.
At this point, I'm fresh out of ideas.

Any suggestions? Does anyone else have this problem?

    Hi rbuja,

    1. What is the complete error message you receive when installing the update?
    2. Did you the latest changes on the computer?
    3. When was the last time it was working fine?
    4. You have security software installed on the computer?
    5. You receive the error message when you install a specific update?

    Method 1

I suggest that reset you Windows Update for default components and try to install the updates, check if it installs successfully.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058

    Method 2

If the previous step fails, then view update history to know what update fails to install on the computer.

    (a) open Windows Update by clicking Start , all programsand then click Windows Update.

    (b) in the left pane, click view update history.

    Hello

    1. which Microsoft Fixit did you?

2 have you installed new hardware or software before the show?

    3. who is the antivirus installed on the computer program?

4 update you are trying to install?

    5. are you logged on as administrator on the computer?

If this isn't the case, I suggest you to log on as an administrator and check for the issue.

    Method 1:
One of the other reason for the 80070005 error is caused by software running on your computer security.
Temporarily disable the security software on the computer and see if that makes a difference.
    Disable the anti-virus software
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software
Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Method 2:
I suggest you perform the steps described in the article:
Error: 0x80070005 when you try to install updates by using Microsoft Update or Windows Update
