  • Icons have disappeared from the screen. How to recover?

All my icons disappeared a week ago and I can't get back them. Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Hello Moira.

You had recently done anything or made any changes to your computer just before this started? Were in line just before that happens? In both cases two different things to try. First, go to control panel, backup and restore, and click Restore. You find a restore point that is at least a week ago, and preferably at least a day or two before your icons have disappeared. Making the point of restoration solves the problem for you?

If not, or for later use, you must download, install, and then run these two anti-malware applications:

    Malwarebytes' anti-malware: http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html .

    SuperAntiSpyware: http://download.cnet.com/SuperAntiSpyware-Free-Edition/3000-8022_4-10523889.html.

Then run your antivirus application do not have? I use and recommend Avast: http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Free-Antivirus/3000-2239_4-10019223.html.

Let me know how you fare.

  • My icons have disappeared from the SysTray

All icons except time disappeared from my system tray.  A KB (sorry, missed the number) indicated that may result by calling the Hibernate power function.   I didn't exactly, however, under Options of Panel\Power control, the presentations tab, I put "Turn off monitor" and "standby" to "after 1 hour" for a few days. "  All icons except time disappeared.

After I restore all settings power forever, however, the icons are not returned.

There are many posts & FAQ on restoring the volume, usually with regard to C:\WIndows\system32\sndvol.32.exe, I think they can refer in case there is no sound at all.  I have the sound and the sndvol32.exe file seems to be good and in the right place (2).

So I think that my problem is not just the Volume icon, but there is a problem with all the icons, not just volume.

I also saw the FAQ related to a repair of the problem on "My Network Places" icon, but they have not worked for me.

There was also a suggestion to install the original Windows XP disc and restore the original files.  In my case, that would mean coming back to SP2.  I have SP3 disk, but I mention it only to point to how 'old', some of these files systen will do.  So, I have to ask:

    • And how about the odd updates 300 listed in my CP/Add and Remove programs?
    • Does not remove the customization settings, that I may have made in the last 4-5 years?  A horrible thought!

    Hi Dave,.

    ·         Did you do changes on the computer before the show?

    ·         Are you able to see the icons in safe mode?

    Follow these methods.

Method 1: Performs a search using the Microsoft safety scanner.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

Method 2: Perform a System Restore and check if the problem persists.

Method 3: Scan the file system (CFS) auditor to repair corrupted files.

  • Some user icons have disappeared from the Office

I use a Sony Vaio laptop running Vista business with Service Pack 2.

Earlier today, most of the icons on my desktop disappeared. Who else is shortcuts in the folder C:\USERS\PUBLIC\DESKTOP.  Those who have disappeared are those of C:\USERS\MYNAME\DESKTOP.  When I look in this file by using Solution Explorer, all the files are still present. It's just you display the icon on the desktop that is missing.

I am connected to my usual account that has administrator privileges.  Office properties are set to "Show desktop icons" and "snap to grid".

Earlier today, I installed an update of AVG Internet Security and performed a full scan, but can't say for sure if the disappearance of the icons has coincided with this.

It seems that the system is linking the visible office with the files in the Public folder, but not those in my personal file.

I tried to restore the system to the earlier dates, but this did not restore desktop layout.

Can anyone tell how to recover? Help will be very appreciated.

    Hi Jessen

    Thanks for your reply.

In fact, it became obvious that the registry has been damaged.  I restored the registry to a previous state by using a backup, and that solved the problem.

    Thank you for your suggestions.

  • Start icon disappears from the taskbar. Command prompt concludes that he cannot fix corrupted files.

My power icon disappeared from my taskbar after a reboot. Following the advice of the Forum I turned on command prompt and asked the sfc/scannow.

After a long search, I received notification that there were a few corrupted files and not all could be fixed. This had occurred previously in 2012.

After a security alert, security, I downloaded the program named Emet. After reading more below in the Microsoft forum, I found the comments which Emet

may damage files. I decided to uninstall Emet. When I finished that I discovered that the Emet icon has disappeared from the taskbar along

with the battery icons and a few other icons. I took my Asus laptop at Best Buy and the tech there called a Microsoft service don't. and

has got instructions to restore the missing icons using the appropriate record. It was in summer 2012. When I stopped my laptop Sunday, December 21, 13

and then reopened Tuesday, December 23, 13 I found that, once more, my power icon had disappeared from the notification area. The correspondent

subprogrammes in the control panel for the management of the icons in the notification area were inoperative for the icon of power and a few others. This

was the exact situation I had in 2012, about 16 months ago.

After failing to solve the problem with the command prompt, I thought I would ask for help. For the moment, I managed without going through the power icon

presented at the center of mobility in the office and after having pinned the control panel to the taskbar on the right.

    Hi Ronald,.

When you first start a new computer, the operating system typically runs Startup service initializations that can take anywhere from one to six hours to finish, depending on which applications are preloaded on the computer. Make sure that you give the operating system sufficient time to finish these Startup service initializations until you stop or restart the computer. This problem generally not happen once the operating system has completed initialization of all before background services is restarted.

I suggest you refer to the following article which has a few registry tweaks to solve the problem. Please follow the steps and check out them.

    Hello

    Try this:

Control Panel - device - sounds Manager - note manufacturer device name and info on the graduating model.
Double click and get the date and version of the driver (if 06 are dates, you use the default windows driver). Now
Click the DRIVER UPDATE (this can not find anything because MS is far behind the certification of drivers). Now LAW
CLICK above and UNINSTALL - REBOOT - it will refresh the driver stack.

Now, go to the manufacturer of the system and recover the last pilot audio/Hi-Fi as a fall.

Download it - SAVE - go to where you put it - RIGHT CLICK top - RUN AS ADMIN - REBOOT

Now do the same for the manufacturer of the device (the one that made the device - if you were using the default windows
you might need to look in the Device Manager - his new driver).

Often, you will need to run the sound card drivers several times to get the latest version installed and will appear in
Manager - Sound. This is because they make back the drivers one at a time and then finally install the
most recent. Look in the Device Manager to be sure that you have installed the version of the driver is the one showing, if not
run the driver again (reset each time) until the shows a correct.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.
