Ideas: I get the 0x80073AFC error code when I try to use the system restore then, how can I find and replace this file missing MUI?
I am running Windows 7 for packs SP 1 or SP 2 does NOT solve my problem since neither one works with Windows 7. Is there a way to search for this MUI (Multiple User Interface) missing file? The every thing must have himself installed in the first place. I took my mom (she died in June) and my brother on this PC as users so even if they do not use this PC supports multiple users. Maybe if I deleted as a reboot and additional users it will solve my problems. My updates install OK but I can't run at all system restore. It creates a restoration point OK but when I try to sr back to a restore point before I get the error 0x80073AFC topic of the missing MUI file. Then, when I spear SR it is said that he could not and no files have been changed because of the error 0x8000FFFF error, unspecified catastrophic failure and could not retrieve the file several times when system restore is attempted.
I'm running Windows 7 on a HP Pavilion with browser Firefox 3.6.8 browser Opera 10.60, IE8 and Google Chrome 5.0.375.125 browser browser.
Can you tell me what I try next? Thnks a lot and sayonara for now the guy-Jack McElwee / keimanzero the Scion of the Anime in Brookhaven PA - USA
OK I tried everything and nothing works! Only added beginners are updated browser Opera 10.63; IE9 (Beta); Firefox 3.6.12 and Google Chrome 7.0.517.41 and Java 22. Of course like everyone else in the world, I had to uninstall/enable and disable/download again and reinstall new Adobe Flash 10 and 11 of the shock wave and they keep crashing too! Hello 4 keep screwing browsers and now I get connection network problems. I run Comcast doctor and did everything it said to do, but nothing works. Oh and I added 7-Zip and WinZip also. Likewise, they will not work! Help! Thanks - K & K
keimanzero,
Comcast of Norton Security Suite version is installed? If Yes, who and perhaps malware is most likely to cause questions you have published, in particular the failure of the restoration of the system.
First, configure the system to boot - How to solve a problem by performing a boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
NOTE: Start-up mode minimum state all the 3rd party firewalls will be disabled. Open Control Panel > Windows Firewall to make sure that the native firewall of Windows 7 is now on.
Download and Save the update system (or CheckSUR) tool. You will need to download the specific Version of CheckSUR corresponding to the architecture of the system to Windows 7. If you do not know the architecture of the system, and then click the link that says "Click here to show or hide the instructions step by step with images" under method 2: download the update directly system preparation tool from Microsoft Download Center .
Description of the preparation tool system update for Windows Vista for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2
Once the download is complete, close all open programs and browsers. Now, run CheckSUR with the system connected to the internet because it will download the .cab for system files. Reboot once CheckSUR is complete.
Secondly, I suggest that you run the File Checker system while in the same clean boot state.
To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:
- Click Start and type cmd in the field search programs and files .
- Right click on cmd.exe in the programs of list, and then choose 'run as administrator '.If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue.
- At the command prompt, enter the following line exactly as written including the space between thec and the/and then press ENTER:sfc/scannow
When the analysis is complete, test to see if the problems facing the system have been resolved.
If they are not, you will need to contact Norton support for the version of Norton Internet Security Comcast to get help, or just uninstall NIS, run the Norton removal tool (right click Norton_Removal_Tool.exe, choose "Run as Administrator"), reboot and then check to see if the problems are still occurring.

How can I find and replace the xml tags?
Hi, I am using xml in my workflow and want to be able to remove some tags if they contained particular text.
Here is an example of the xml struct...
< Entry >
< name > DEFAULT < / name >
< such > default < / such >
DEFAULT < address > < / address >
< / Entry >
I use this initial structure to define paragraph styles to follow when you import the xml data.
This leaves DEFAULT in place everywhere where an entry is not any content of this field.
I want to be able to import my XML and then run a script that deletes tags that include by DEFAULT, - I need to the xml tag to remove not only the text, if I do a normal find and replace will remove only the text not the tags that is causing problems with style. I also want to remove the end of para/return (^ p) that I placed at the end of the line. So it would be the same opening editor mode and removing content, tags + hard back in there, but I want to automate the process...
So I think that's what I'm looking for in each case
"< name > DEFAULT < / name > ^ p.
and I want to replace it with nothing.
Is this possible in a script (ideally javascript)?
I have a little knowledge of javascript, but don't know how to search for and target this kind of string in indesign...
using indesign cs5
Thank you very much
Hello
Script should do it in two steps:
1 find all occurrences of that is ' > by DEFAULT.<>
2 delete the whole paragraph which is a found_text container.
For example, in this way - JS - (a textFrame filled your text must be selected):
var mStory = app.selection[0].parentStory; app.findTextPreferences = null; app.findTextPreferences.findWhat = ">DEFAULT<"; var myF = mStory.findText(); var count = myF.length; while (count--) myF[count].paragraphs[0].remove();

The system restore points, how can be stored/kept?
I had problems restore XP on the computer of a friend. I can't after installing SP3, a question that will be asked in a separate post.
In an effort to not having to do a full system recovery on the computer in question, with this latest attempt to recover the operating system and install all updates, I started the creation of restore points for the system after each step, I took to get things running and upward.
And that is, after installing SP3, with installation fails and then going back until the restoration of the system to an earlier configuration, I found none of the points longer existed the system restore. :-(
Is there a maximum number of restore points in the system that can be stored in XP and later Windows operating systems?
Hey, Jose,
I'm sorry for the late reply to your post, but I removed the weekend baby a bad back that makes me mad.
I'll try to put your comments in quotes, with my response immediately after, flea.
The hard drive is 160 GB. The car had 2 partitions, the recovery partition. Before reinstalling everything from scratch, I've used Easeus Partition Manager Home Edition to create a 3rd partition to move the original data of C:\ drive to your new partition so my friend can sort files and keep it as he and his family want and discard the rest. I just copy everything that I can, because I don't know who, what, and where they have stored files. I actually found a file stored in the recovery partition, but I moved it.
"Here are some reasons that XP will remove RPs.
- Read the KB article. To make sure that we are on the same page, I get "system drive" means C:\.
- Lack of free space should not be a problem. C:\ is 32 GB, 10.1 GB used. D:\ is 111 GB, GB used 21.2. E:\ is 5.98 GB, used 5.00. E: is the recovery Partition.
- No disk compression
- Did not display the warnings system restore.
- I do not turn off System Restore fo any player.
- This isn't an upgrade of the system to an earlier version, I just turn on the computer the way it came, new out of the box.
- The system was always restored from the recovery Partition. I have a set of restore CD, but they have been written about the recorded side with a felt marker. I have not tried cleaning off the coast, this will be my absolute last resort. :-)
- Disk cleanup does not give me tabs and options as mentioned in the article. I guess that these show upward when you upgrade from a previous version of the operating system.
- I don't think I'm under low disk space. :-)
- Does not not after the age of 90 days, nor have I have reduced the size of the data store. I didn't know either of these possibilities before you read this KB. See how the KB has been written, I suppose that these two parameters can be changed. Can you point me in the right direction for how to do this? I have a computer multiboot (XP Pro and Vista Ultimate Edition) and I would change the date of age never delete a restore point, because the computer is rarely used nowadays.
"I don't know that when you install SP3 and it goes well, a single method to uninstall SP3 is to restore the system to the time before SP3 was installed:
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/950249
This would mean that you would still RPs after that installation of SP3 (if things were favorably) and that was my observation. »
- When I started to have problems, I simply started from scratch with a Destructive Restore process. When I'm really frustrated after several failures, I started looking for a quicker way to get back to a point just before I installed SP3 and found this KB. After that, it was the safe boot mode and using the Control Panel Add/Remove programs to remove the SP3. And I got very, very familiar with the process! Laughing out loud
"Other things I can think can remove all restore Points are third party maintenance and system cleaning tools, poorly designed or introducing a third part malfunction anti malware tools, etc..". Malicious software can disable the system restore (temporarily of course), but I never saw remove Restore Points. The XP disk cleanup will also delete all but the most recent restore Point. »
- Other Easeus Partition Manager, I never got far enough along to try any other third party software. My "modus operandi" is updated completely OS and Internet Explorer before I install any other software and update it. However, with the idea of the recovery Partition, do not not the software isn't an option.
"If they are all absent, it always seems that a human element involved somewhere."
- I learned long ago, the days of 8-bit, unless there is a real hardware failure, almost all computer problems can be tracked to a human being.
- Not all system restore points were missing, just the first I created which is involved by creating a restore point after you change the system, such as the removal of my friend doesn't use software. For example the software to connect to an ISP with a modem. They got the DSL. :-)
- All deletions of software would help speed up the computer for his own use. The rest of the family is like me today, Mac users. :-)
"To answer your question:
The settings default for the accumulation of Restore Points is 12% of the size of the monitored hard drive or 90 days (both values are adjustable of course). Microsoft seems to draw attention to the way in which the Restore Points "live." "Then, the oldest Restore Points will start to get deleted to make room for new Restore Points (see also KB950249).
- 12%, eh? Is it possible, in fact, I have exceeded this number by 12% by creating too many restore points? Knowing what I was doing, which seems to be a possiblity says, as restoring all points were never deleted, only the earlier.
I'll certainly post the info you suggested in the post on the SP3 forum.
"Do or do not. There is no test. »
- "Luke, the force is with you." :-)

I searched around these forums and others to find a solution and I'm afraid I'll have to re - install windows.
So far I have tried:

I just bought a new all-in-one PC of Windows 8 at my local store from Microsoft and configure it to my client. They have a Windows 7 Pro machine, which I connected to via homegroup. I tried to access the actions of the Windows 8 machine as well as access to the C: drive on the Windows 7 machine. For some reason, he sees the actions and invites you to me for a user name and password to connect to the machine. I enter the correct credentials and it keeps kicking back this error code. I need to access the computer Windows 7 Windows 8 machine, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Old laptop had Thunderbird. The laptop no longer works, so I took the drive C (SATA drive) and and which plugged into a USB port.
New laptop has installed Thunderbird local folders have been restored. The contents of the Inbox is missing (I use the option ' download server ", so the recent correspondence is here.)
I have three POP3 accounts, so I will try to identify the location of three separate "inbox" and "Sent" folders and add them to the new facility.
Where the files are stored, and what would be the easy way to get back them on the new laptop?
It would be great if there is a more fluid way for disaster recovery.
You could have copied the whole profile and do with it.
To create backups, you should also back up the entire profile. -
