identify and eliminate unwanted startup programs

How can I determine if the programs that run at startup can be eliminated to improve performance? (win XP pro)

To identify what loads when you start using Autoruns (freeware of)
(Microsoft).

http://www.Microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/Autoruns.mspx

With Autoruns, you can deselect an item, which turns off to
Start, or you can click with the right button on an item, then remove it. If you
Uncheck youcan recheck to re - activate the element. It is much safer
approach than the registry change and better than using msconfig...
Another useful feature of the program is that you can right click a
element and select search online to get information about the element
selected.
Hope this helps, Gerry Cornell

If I use msconfig to remove startup programs unwanted, that will allow me to also remove the applications that are launched at startup, because they are in the Group of network policy?

Group Policy in part controls what users can or not do on a computer system.

In most cases, if you are an administrator then you are 'the' group of all features to set up xp.

So basically, if group policy is set up correctly, then you should be able to disable the startup via msconfig.

Also, keep in mind that startup programs is not the only area that can cause starting problems.

Look under the Services tab in Msconfig, and then click on / activate the option 'hide' and look at services of third parties who are also registered at startup as well.

Incidentally, you might want to doodle on the paper that you disabled so you can back up the track, just in case your plans don't go quite right.

  • Black Vista screen falls down randomly and sometimes at startup

My problem seems to be quite unique =

I sometimes get a black screen crash when you play WoW, and sometimes Vista will not start and lead me to a black screen at startup.  These problems can be corrected by restarting the computer - there are however sometimes many restarts to get the system starts again.

IV tried to update my video card, my monitor drivers drivers, cleaning of my drive C, did a LOT of research google about the problem as possible and I'm not sure what the cause is right, it could be a videocard related, or maybe not.

I am running Windows Vista x 64 Home.
Modern stuff Quad Core CPU, 8 GB of Ram.

    Hello

Could be heat related - try using a small fan to blow into the air intakes to see if that helps.
It is just like it loses power or stop it in the normal way?

To be able to remove ALL and reinstall all memory cards and cables (both ends) - actually delete
and replace - do not just tight. Remove the dust bunnies and clean the vents. Check that the
fans of work (before and after opening the case). If a laptop on what you can do is reinstall
memory and clean the ventilation openings (still may try to add a small fan as a test).

Vista and Windows 7 updated drivers love then here's how update the most important.

This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

This utility, it is easy see which versions are loaded:

-Free - DriverView utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.
For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,
Description, version, product name, company that created the driver and more.
    http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/DriverView.html

For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
Control Panel - device - Graphics Manager - note the brand and complete model
your video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now, click on update
Driver (this can do nothing as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then right-click.
Uninstall - REBOOT it will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party
with their own software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

Now in the system manufacturer (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) site (in a restaurant), peripheral
Site of the manufacturer (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for
BIOS, Chipset and software updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
    each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you actually install
presents itself. This is because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (sound card drivers
in particular that) so to install a driver - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat as
    necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW in the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER device - check
    manually by model.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

If you update the drivers manually, then it's a good idea to disable the facilities of driver under Windows

older and cause problems. If updates offers a new driver and then HIDE it (right click on it), then

Autoruns goes way beyond the MSConfig utility bundled with Windows Me and XP.

    1. If you are using Vista, Windows Defender is part of the operating system. It can NOT be uninstalled. He lives and dies with the system.

    2. If you have the following antivirus (AV) installed, Windows defender is supposed to be stopped by the AV:
    Norton
    McAfee
    AVG
    Microsoft Security Essentials
