IE6/Win Media Player/XP Pro: will not play. Media WMV e-mail link-get codec missing error - but playing so very well. WMV is downloaded beforehand. Used to work.

Hello
I use Windows Media Player 11, Windows XP Pro, and IE6, all updated to current versions/SP etc.  I use comcast.net email.  I get frequently joined with .wmv files.  If I double click, Windows Media Player opens and I get the error that a codec is missing.  However, if I right-click and save the file to disk, then I can display by using Windows Media Player.  Why won't just play to in IE6 without having to save first?  It's used to work.  If she needs a codec for a .wmv file, why didn't he tell me who/where the codec to get it?  If I am to day in all software, why have I not the codec I need for one. File WMV to play in IE6?  Tips to download a specific codec pack for a similar problem, I saw, but then I saw other tips that the codec of the 3 parties packs Download creates problems.  Don't know what to do.  Oh, and I prefer not to make a newer version of IE at this moment, unless there is another compelling reason to do so.  Thank you. JB

It may be interesting to try to reset the .wmv file association.

Try the following...

Right-click a .wmv file that is saved on your hard drive and
in the menu... Choose... Properties / General tab / change button...
In the list... Select... Windows Media Player / OK / apply / OK...

Good luck...

  • Windows Media Player (v.11) will not play my avi files!

This just started recently... today I imported my son videos on my computer and they are simple AVI files that I don't know if easily and easily play on WMP without problem, and they always until I just tried... I try to open the video and at the bottom, he says its "acquired codeq', but then the error message:"a codec is needed to play this file. To determine if this codec is available to download, click on help on the Web"... then I do. Then he said something like "module10: Opera" or something... I guess that means Opera, the browser, that I downloaded in desperation, since longer works also none of my browsers except IE 64-bit... (any other problem in itself!) but I've removed opera once I realized that it was just like the other browsers: non-working on my computer! So I don't know what's happening on here all of a sudden but its boring and I don't know how to fix it. I tried Quicktime and it opens very well but it is a black screen-no sound or picture. What is going on?! I used DriverCure reallocate what types of files are partners/open with this program, but that did not help. What can I do to view today's simple avi files? :(

Try google for a FREE video converter.
Use it to convert the format of your video to WMV format.
Now try to play in WMP. For the benefits of others looking for answers, please mark as answer suggestion if it solves your problem.

  • MacBook Pro will not play on the old stereo amplifier

I'm playing together stereo music from Spotify or Youtube on an old.  I have my Macbook pro connected to speakers Audio Engine A2 (with integrated DAC) via the USB port.  Then form of the output of the A2s RCA cables go into my old fisherman amplifier CA-876 connected to NHT 2.5I speakers.  Music comes from the A2s but not the NHTs.  The counter on the sinner is not moving, it seems that the amp is not picking up the signal.  Thank you very much for the help!

If you play other audio such as system sounds or local audio files it works there? If you connect the outputs of A2 to something that works? If you connect something else in the entrance of the Fisher does it work?

  • XP, Firefox 5.0, Adobe Flash 23.0.0.207, Facebook. Video will not play. Plugin-container failure maybe? Recently started. Worked.

Windows XP sp2. Firefox 5.0 (last), Adobe Flash Player 23.0.0.207 (later). I completely deleted and reinstalled Firefox and Flash Player since the problem began. I still have the problem.

On Facebook, I am able to play the videos. He was working. I've had this problem before and was able to fix by updating to Flash Player, but that has not worked this time. It seems that this plugin-container is trying to start, but failing. There is no error message.

Can anyone help? Best regards, Fred

Facebook videos can use HTML5 player instead of Flash Player Plugin.

An easy way to see if you can play HTML5 video in Firefox is to go to https://www.youtube.com/html5/ , as should be all blue checkmarks.

Since you have the old EOL WinXP and not Vista or later, you may not be able to play HTML5 without workarounds.

With workaround solutions, you will be able to. http://www.MSFN.org/Board/topic/175591-Enable-MP4-H264-AAC-HTML5-Video-in-Firefox-on-Windows-XP-without-Flash/

  • I have Mac OS 10.9.5 and avi files will not play even with VLC.  What can I use?

How can I play an AVI on Mac OS 10.9.5 when VLC does not work?

You probably can't. AVI is a container, not a format; Some reviews require a codec that is not available for Mac OS X.

  • my windows media player is VERY slow to start, sometimes stops working, will not play some videos

When I run the program it opens but will not play a song sometimes longer than 15 minutes. Stops working and the screen will sometimes foggy transparent white - I can still see the player, but he has a white on fog. Today, that happen when you try to copy a cd. -just a regular old cdr.

Show first frame of video and play a sound but video does not move. Windows vista-home premium-toshiba.

I suggest that you try to reset the media library. Note firstly reset the library will make you lose all play counts and ratings too. Then, follow these steps:

    -Restart the PC.
-Click Start, type services.msc in the search field and press ENTER. In Services, locate the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service. If its status is started, double-click on the service and click on stop.
-Click Start, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft in the search field and press ENTER. This folder opens in Windows Explorer.
-In this file, rename the old Media Player like Media Player folder. If you do not see the folder, then it is probably hidden. Set Explorer to view the hidden files and folders and show protected system files.
-Launch WMP, your library will have been reset and will be rebuilt. Check if the problem persists.

  • New iMac / installed Premiere Pro / will not export media and accidents

I have a new end 2013 iMac 27 inches. Yesterday, I installed Premiere Pro. After completing my first project today, I tried to export media and PP said that a serious error has occurred and must stop. Adobe Media Encoder does not - too, it blocks. I uninstalled all creative Applications of cloud I downloaded yesterday, then restarted, and then used the Adobe Creative Cloud tool for Mac, rebooted, then re-installed Premiere Pro. The problem persists. Premiere Pro will not export my video and accidents with reviews of "serious error". Adobe Media Encoder still does not open and crashes every time. It's frustrating. I never had this problem on my MacBook Pro mid-2009. I even opened my MBP to export media from this updated release of Premiere Pro and it worked! So maybe that's the version of the SOUL, the more recent which is NOT installed on my MBP? Perhaps more current is unstable and crashes? I do not know. I would like to export my video and use these applications how they're supposed to run. I worked on this problem all day.

  • AirPlay will not play videos

I have an iPod Touch 6th generation & Apple TV 4. After the update my iPod Touch IOS 9.3 & my Apple TV 4 to tvOS 9.2, just Airplay won't play as before. When I try to Airplay from my iPod Touch, Apple TV, Apple TV Gets the Airplay, but he won't play. I try to touch the button PLAY/PAUSE on the remote control of Siri, but nothing happens and I even try pressing the play button on the iPod touch, but still nothing. Is the only way this could work if I I restard the Airplay a few times more. But this only happens in safari and in some other applications, but not in YouTube or iTunes & afternoon updating the buffering has gotten more slow and he puts in buffer much more.

I agree 100%. I'm airplaying of air iPad by using chrome to Apple TV tvOS 9.2. The flow of data downloads completely as indicated by the progress bar. Can manually advance to view individual images, but video will not play at all times. Airlplay utube on iPad app works fine, but the other videos are desperate! It really works after several attempts?
