IE8 has disappeared from my computer and I can't retrieve it or download it successfully.

Works fully update Vista HP on a gateway DX4710-09, Pentium Dual core E5200, 6 GB of RAM DDR2, HD 640GO with lots of space empty.

Originally 32 and 64 bit versions of IE8 was installed and usable.  Just for a test, on 06/02/13 I installed and set Firefox as default browser but do not delete IE8 or other than to replace it with Firefox by default.  I used Firefox and IE8 such as required and all worked well for a while and then a few days ago two versions of IE8 has mysteriously disappeared from my computer and I was not able to get a return.  I tried to download but for some reason any that does not work.  I checked the list of installed programs and IE8 does not appear here and the two icons disappeared in the start menu, as well as in the Group of quick launch.  An IE folder appears in Windows Explorer in the Program Files folder as the Program Files (x 86) folders.  The subfolders in each list of files with a modification of 18/02/13 date I think it's the date IE8 disappeared.  Being not qualified for one more, I did nothing with any of the files in these folders for fear of making things worse.  Someone care to volunteer to get out of this dilemma?

  • Somehow Windows Search has disappeared from my computer. How can I reinstall it?

My Windows search is missing.  I need to reinstall it.  How do I do that?

You must answer the questions asked by Elizabeth23 as much as you can to see why your Windows Search is missing.

If these links of relocation do not do it for you, here are a few instructions to reinstall Windows Search, which is useful if you have a genuine XP installation CD bootable, which has the same Service Pack that your version unspecified.

There is an extra effort for Windows Search become missing.

You have now or have you ever used third-party products on your system where the product description includes one or more of the following descriptive words:

cleaner, mechanic, detective, doctor, heal, optimize, Inspector, clean, tune up, speed up, fix up, compact, compress, faster, power, boost, boost, gum, muncher. one click fix, new, intuitive, errors, stop crashes, stop errors, improves, allows you to save money, risk free, guaranteed or any third-party program that has an icon that looks like a gear, pinion, belt holder, key, key, screwdriver or plunging arrows?

If so, this could be the reason that Windows Search is missing.

As you go through the reinstallation of Windows Search, the resettlement will be asked to locate certain files as you go along and ask your XP installation CD.

If you do not have a genuine XP bootable installation CD, you can change the path where Setup looks for files one at a time, because they are needed.  More on that later.

Navigate to c:\windows\inf, and right click on the following file:

    Srchasst.inf

    Choose Install

If you cannot see the srchasst.inf file, configure your system to show hidden files and show file extensions.

Click on tools, Options, view and turn on "Show the hidden files and folders" and uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types", then you should be able to see the c:\windows\inf\ folder and the c:\windows\inf\srchasst.inf file.

Make sure that you do not attempt to use this file: srchasst.pnf - you must use the file srchasst.inf instead.

Installation can request files from the c:\windows\inf\386 folder.  It would be your installation CD bootable XP genuine if you have one and the Service Pack installed on your system must be the same as the CD that you will use.

You don't need absolutely a CD to reinstall Windows Search, because files must already be on your system somewhere if Windows Search was working before.

If you are prompted for a file, and you can't find it where I suggest in my example below (it works on my system), you need to search your hard drive and find where the files on your system.

If you cannot find the files you need, identify the missing files and then a beautiful person can put them on their SkyDrive and you can download and save on your system and then point the installation there.

Here's how my system works when I reinstall Windows Search when I pretend that I don't have a genuine XP bootable installation CD:

    When you are asked:

    msgr3en.dll

    Point installation c:\windows\system32\dllcache

    When you are asked:

    Courtney.ACS

    Point installation c:\windows\srchasst\chars

    When you are asked:

    inetpref. XML

    Point installation c:\windows\srchasst\mui\0409

    If asked:

    nls302en. Lex

    Point installation c:\windows\system32\dllcache

    When you are asked:

    Rover.ASC

    Point installation c:\windows\srchasst\chars

    When you are asked:

    Balloon.Xsl

    Point installation c:\windows\srchasst\mui\0409

Once installation is complete, restart your system and see if your Windows Search is now functional.

  • DVD drive has disappeared from my computer and Device Manager lists

The machine is an Acer laptop with a single disc DVD - RW Win Vista Home Premium 32 running with all the latest updates installed.

I have not installed anything new (software or hardware), I know.

The other day the player just stopped working and is no longer registered to each workstation or in the Device Manager list.

While they inspected the system event logs there is a chain of...

Event 7026 - the next (s) starting or starting system could not load:

    CDROM

    and...

Event 11 atapi - driver detected an error in the controller on \Device\Ide\IdePort2.

Event 9 atapi - the device, \Device\Ide\IdePort0, did not within the time limit.

Event 11 atapi - driver has detected an error on \Device\Ide\IdePort0 controller.

I know that the drive itself works well because when I initially turn on the laptop I can hear the drive spin upward and I'm able to eject the drawer, so there the power etc... but once in Windows the drive does not work or even appear anywhere.

    So far, I have tried.

    1. detection of new hardware in Device Manager

2 - installing all IDE channels and let the system reinstall after re-booting

3 running the Microsoft Fixit tool, it seems to point out that there is a problem and said fixed it, but nothing is actually fixed by that

I noticed a few other posts which look similar to mine, but had trouble understanding if they truly are or not.  So apologies if this is a repeat of something already posted.

OK tried the fixit tool still once, was not aware there were different tools for different issues.  I have the wrong tool launches the first time round.

Anyway, the drive is still on holiday somewhere, fixit tool reports that it may not detect the drive at all, so that seems to indicate that he does not drive connected.

Is it possible that the IDE cable has come off the promenade inside the laptop?  I hope that not because I just spent the last couple of hours trying to figure how to get to where the Player connects, but seems almost impossible... can get to all the rest, keyboard and screen disconnected, RAM, disk HARD etc, but the DVD player, not a hope!

Looks like I'll take it to a service somewhere I guess.

  • Color problems: the red color has disappeared from my computer

    Original title: color problems

The red color has disappeared from my computer. The moniter is ok.

    Hello

You did it changes on your machine before the problem?

It could be a hardware failure.

Things that can be loaded are listed below:

    broken monitor cable has...
    b. defective monitor.
    c. faulty graphics card.

    You can consider measurements:

    Step 1:

Double check that monitor cable is firmly attached. Try the Wiggles, see if the color returns.
    Step 2:

Test another monitor on the PC (Personal Computer), and/or the monitor on another PC.
    Step 3:

You may have a bad cable, or the monitor may be defective.

    Step 4:

Right-click on the desktop and select Properties. Go to the tab settings, and report on what choice was filed under 'Color quality' and what is the other choice in the drop-down list?

If there is no choice of color quality better than what you have, you may not use the correct driver for your video card or monitor.

Uninstall and reinstall the drivers for video card and see if the red color appears.

Follow the steps in the link to uninstall and reinstall the video card drivers.

  • Driver DVD disappear from 'My computer' and 'Device Manager '.

Vista HP Portable DVD player continues to disappear from 'My computer' and 'Device Manager '. Already tried Upper/LowerFilters.

Hi, a few weeks ago, the DVD burner in the laptop suddenly disappearedmy computer (Windows Explorer).  The first thing I did was check theDevice Manager to see if the drive was there.  It was not the case.  Restarting the laptop did nothing.  Repeated several times, active Vista updates.  No change.  By checking the net, I tried to delete the Upper/LowerFilters in the registry, download it tool Microsoft fix , delete iTunes, do a system restore, to change all the parameters of thesleep and hibernation off and a few other things.  It appeared for the first time after that:

    1. Do a restore of the system for the first restore point.
    2. Remove the DVD writer.
    3. Restarting the laptop.
    4. Research of new hardware in Device Manager .
    5. Change all parameters of standby and Hibernate off. (I tried this method without this step first, but the drive disappeared after the computer went to sleep and woke up.)  Tried 3 times with the same results).
    6. Closing.
    7. Reinsert the DVD burner.

On the next reboot, the DVD writer has been recognized and ended up in my computer and Device Manager .  No errors of any kind and no drivers were installed at startup.

What has happened since then, in the last 4 or 5 days, is randomly disappears from thedesktop .  Usually after a few hours or more.  This time, however, it usually appears inDevice Manager after a search of new material.  No reboot required.  It will read from a DVD .avi files each time.  It has not been detected byDevice Manager maybe about 2 or 3 times, and after a simple reboot, it will be present inmy computer and Device Manager automatically after a reboot.  I read that the superior/UpperFilter mark has worked for many people, but for some, the problem returns.  In addition, many of the discussions on this question and proofreading are years.  It happened about 10 days ago.  Within 2 days before the problem appeared first, it was an update of windows, but also an update of iTunes.

I noticed that I received this error when opening iTunes:

"The registry settings used by the iTunes for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can occur as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes. ''

I have not reinstalled, no DVD player.  Uninstalled itunes again.  Since I finally got the drive to appear (using the method I described above), I did bother to reinstall iTunes because I particularly need it on this computer, worried that it may be the cause of the original problem and I wanted to see if the disc disappears again.  I did do it, however, let QuickTime installed.  Don't know if this could be a problem?

I stumbled upon this suggestion, but I also had the same question as the next post, and I have not seen a response.  I don't know if or how I should try:

    Nikki,

You can not go back if the restore points aren't there. Try to reinstall the IDE driver.

    To do:
-Click on the round to start and right click on computer
-Left click on properties, this will open the system window
-Click on device high Managerin left
-Click on continue if prompted by UAC
-Goto the 'IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers' you should right click on uninstall and restart

BTW that dog rox in this avitar

See you soon! MCP. MCDST. LVL 80

Hi, thanks for the comment on my puppy. She is now 5 MB and her name is Nikki, lol.

Well, I tried what you said, but the IDE ATA/ATAP controllers has a (+), so when I select it does give me not an option to uninstall. It is for me (analysis of the physical changes (or) properties).       and if I click on the (+) sign I have 4 different options. 2 channels IDE, Intel (R) 82801 HEM / HBM SATA AHCI controller and Intel(r) ICH8M Ultra ATA Storage controllers - 2850.

    http://social.answers.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/vistahardware/thread/e3701d75-9dbe-4ae9-9d70-83f14129247c?Prof=required

What I see in "Device Manager", under IDE ATA/ATAP controllers is:

    IDE channel (x 4)

    Ricoh Memory Stick Controller

    Ricoh SD/MMC Host Controller

    Ricoh xD-Picture Card Controller

Controller of PCI standard IDE dual channel (x 2)

The laptop is about 2 years and never had problems.  The DVD burner is hardly used to burn, maybe a total of 5 disks in this time.  It has been used occasionally to read or copy from, but not much.  I'm not convinced that he is dead, as I had 2 die on me in desktop computers, after burning hundreds of CDs in them and read much.

in any case, I was not able to find any bugs or suggestions (with the exception of 'replace' the reader), so I just wanted to describe my specific situation and see if anyone could help out.  Forgive me for information, I have left out, but I am an amateur when it comes to the problems with the computer and still don't know what mean things or where I can get information on my OS, software or hardware.  All anyone can do would be greatly appreciated.

This is the information I have:

    HP Pavilion dv6700 Notebook PC

Optiarc DVD RW AD-7560 ATA Device

    Vista Home Premium

    Service Pack 2

    Thanks again for any help.

    Hello

    1. do you have the software installed on the computer of CD/DVD burning?

Check if the CD/DVD drive is recognized in the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System).
Step 1: We also recommend to uninstall the CD/DVD burning software, if you have everything installed, restart the computer and check the result.
Scan for the device in Device Manager. To do this, try the following steps.
    1. click on start, type devmgmt.msc and press to enter.
    2. click on one of the items in the list, click the Action menu and click Scan for hardware changes.
    3. check if the CD/DVD is displayed.

For more assistance on this, contact the manufacturer of the laptop.

    Kind regards
