Firefox crashes a few seconds of starting if you have either the Applian Technologies Freecorder and Replay Media Catcher programs in combination with Norton Security software (and possibly other security software).

If you have either of these Applian programs and it is not essential, try to uninstall it then restart Windows to ensure that none of its components are running.

    Hello

Try Firefox Safe mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily disables hardware acceleration, restores some settings and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart Firefox Safe mode in the Help menu:

    • Click the menu button

      click Help

then select restart with disabled modules.

If Firefox does not work, you can start Firefox in Mode safe as follows:

    • On Windows: Hold down the SHIFT key when you open the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.
    • On Mac: Hold the option key during the startup of Firefox.
    • On Linux: Exit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox-safe-mode
(you may need to specify the installation path of Firefox for example/usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "start mode safe."

If the problem is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps described in the section Troubleshooting extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common Firefox problems to find the cause.

To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before you open Firefox for normal use again.

When find you what is causing your problems, please let us know. This might help others with the same problem.

  • Whenever I run Firefox, it starts to download a huge file that I don't want. How to stop this.

I had Firefox starts downloading a file yesterday and then changed my mind leave Firefox in the process. He asked if I wanted to cancel the download and I said yes. Now, whenever I run Firefox, it starts to download the same file 805 MB that I already have a copy from another source. I deleted everything I could find with Firefox or Mozilla in preferences and Caches as well as a few other places, but again, start Firefox and it starts downloading. Looked through the preferences of Firefox and see nothing that looks like it would fix this problem. It's Firefox OS x 35.0.1 10.10.1, in fact, it is the OS X ComboUpdate 10.10.2 it maintains keen to download, but it is already on my drive.

I would like to give your more information, but I'm in Safari, Firefox now because I don't want to waste resources to have this file to download it again. I don't have a line T1 entering my house. Sorry, but this issue should be responsible without any of this info.

  • How can I leave Firefox automatically starts in mode full screen (Mac PowerPC with Firefox 3.6)

I use a Mac Mini (PowerPC) as media-computer for our Narrowcasting screen. It's an old mini with Max OS X 10.5.8 and Firefox 3.6.28.

This works very well for a few years. But whenever there is a power failure the mini boots itself again and Firefox is started automatically. BUT is NOT in FULL screen. Some must use Shift-CMD-F to the mini back to full screen.

  • Can't get Firefox to start after OS updates

Just did the latest updates on OS - X 10.6.8 and now I can't get Firefox to start. He stands up and says he has problems (the 'annoying' window) and that I should try to close tabs. However, it does not at all, so finally I have to force quit. I try cold start the computer without effect.

We will try this. You said that you try to start Firefox 8 on the problem machine? Can you try to download Firefox www.getfirefox.com11, install it, restart your computer, and then see if it is still upward?

If this is the case, try to start Firefox in safe mode.

  • Firefox has started to crash at startup, after that I seconded a bookmark bar button

It is possible that there is a problem with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder.

Delete the sessionstore.js file [2] and files possible sessionstore-# .js [3] with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.

Delete sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and tab groups and opened and closed the tabs (back) to get lost, so you will need to create them again (take note or bookmarks).

Create a new profile as a test to see if your profile is the source of the problems.

See "basic troubleshooting: a new profile:

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "tools > Modules > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If this new profile works then you can transfer files from the old profile to the new profile, but make sure not to copy corrupted files.

  • Firefox recently started opening new tabs when I click on search results how do I get this to stop

When I use Google and I click on a search result, it opens a new tab, where it used to just take me to a new page in the tab I was using, I searched on the tabs tab in options and saw I could choose to open in a new window, but I don't see an option to open it in the current tab. It started to arrive from nowhere.

Found a setting in Google that said to open all the result in a new window that I guessed that Firefox has been the substitution and open it in a new tab as suggested settings unchecked the box in Google and now the behaviour is back to normal.

This problem seems to be related to having an older version of the driver for the Intel HD Graphics 3000 card.

The solution is to upgrade the driver.

Temporary work is close to being to launch Firefox in Mode without failure, then uncheck "Use hardware acceleration when available" on the Options > advanced > general tab of the Firefox menu.

  • NVIDIA Stereoscopic 3D Driver Service disabled makes Firefox slow start (even if related plugin is set to never activate)

The problem I encounter is that I disabled the 'NVIDIA Stereoscopic 3D Driver Service"my msconfig configuration. After a reboot when I started Firefox there is a huge delay (2-3 seconds) showed a white screen (which indicates a wait for a timeout).

Now, before pointing at NVIDIA (which I also finger pointing here), I want to clarify, Yes, there's a plugin installed in Firefox (NVIDIA 3D VISION), but it has been set (disabled - never activate). So I wonder why would a disabled plugin that is configured to start never attempt to communicate and causing a such time-out at the start, it makes little sense to me.

Hi TaohRihze, I don't know, but this also occurs when you have disabled hardware acceleration? And who is an extension required for your graphics card?

    Instructions below:
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. As this feature has been added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there are still some problems.

You will have to perhaps restart Firefox for it to take effect, so save any work first (e.g. you compose mail, documents online that you are editing, etc.).

    Then perform the following steps:

    1. Open the Firefox Options (Preferences on Mac or Linux) as follows:

      • In Firefox 29,0 and above, click on the menu button

then select Options Preferences on Mac or Linux, or Windows.

      • In 28.0 Firefox and earlier versions, click on the Firefox orange upper-left button, then select the 'Options' button or, if there is no button up Firefox, go to tools > Options.
    2. In the window of Firefox Options (or preferences), click on the Advanced tab, and then select general.
    3. You will find in the list of parameters, the checkbox use hardware acceleration when available . Clear this check box.
    4. Now restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

In addition, please check the updates for your graphics driver by following the steps in the following knowledge base articles:
