If I delete photos from my iphone library can I keep them on my macbook?

The photos on the macbook app is connected to my phone via icloud, which seems to be the only way to transfer photos to my computer. The problem is that my phone is running out of memory and I need to remove photos from my phone. If I delete the pictures from my phone they also permanenty will remove my library of photos on my macbook?

There are many iCLoud services so the answer depends on the services you use

If you use iCloud photo library, so you have a single library for any and every change made anywhere is made everywhere

If you are using MyPhotoStream, then remove a device of form does not affect other devices

If you are using iCLoud, photo sharing, then you are the owner can delete the photos and they are deleted in the world

I want to delete some photos from my iPhone 6 but keep them on my MacBook - how can I do this?

    Hey Jill,.

This should be possible as long as you do not use icloud photo library.

With iCloud, photo library, your devices are giving you access to your library, which is stored directly in iCloud. Therefore, when you delete a photo of iCloud photo library on any device, it removes from everywhere.

When you turn off the iCloud photo library, each device is its own independent photo library. You must manually import pictures from your phone to your MacBook, then you could remove your phone at will.

If you wish to continue using iCloud photo library, but also want to save space on your phone, consider turning on Optimize iPhone storage in the section Photos to your phone settings iCloud!

  • How to remove photos from my iPhone 6 s, without deleting icloud photo library on all my devices with ios 9.2.1?

I just updated my iPhone 6s ios 9.2.1 and whenever I try to remove photos from the iPhone library, it is said that they will remove the iCloud photo library on all devices. I don't want to do, I want to save the photos on my computer, but free up space on my phone. Help!

If you have iCloud library enabled in the iPhone then any photo that you delete from your phone is also removed to iCloud and all devices connected to this library to iCloud. It is not a setting or an option where you can change this while continuing to use iCloud photo library. You can reduce the space required on the phone by activating the settings > iCloud > Photos > optimize iPhone storage. You can suggest that Apple offers more options via: http://www.apple.com/feedback/icloud.html

  • Deleting photos on an iPhone 6 after importing Photos

I used 6 (iOS 9.2.1) photos to import photos from my iPhone but can't seem to delete them from my phone because I'm running out of space. I can't find an option in Photos for me to do. I use iCloud library but tired of receiving messages telling me I am out of space and need to buy more. I was using the iPhone Optimize Storage option, so when I try to turn off iCloud, he tells me I'm losing photos. I guess that it space to store all of the photos uploaded to iCloud original is much more than the space I have left on my phone. So why would I back up my photos to a photo library. Yes, I could go through frame by frame making sure that they are all there, but there are more than 2500 and would prefer to delete automatically the picures copied after importation. Make sense?

Import Photos Panel has a check "Remove items after importing" below the toolbar. If you enable this, before importing items, they will be automatically deleted.

You don't see this check box, because you have activated on your iPhone photo library iCloud.  As long as you use iCloud photo library, the Mac cannot delete the photos, because they are stored in iCloud and only mirrored on your iPhone.

"Remove items after importation" is to risk anyway. I would not use this option. First, it is safer to check if the import was successful before deleting the photos from the iPhone.  Sometimes it happens that photos will be removed from the device, even if the import was not successful.

So why would I back up my photos to a photo library. Yes, I could go through frame by frame making sure that they are all there, but there are more than 2500 and would prefer to delete automatically the picures copied after importation. Make sense?

Since all the pictures are in the library of iCloud, download them by creating a new library of Photos on your Mac and enable it in your library to iCloud.  It will download all photos in iCloud.

You are you sure, that all the photos are safely on your Mac, disable iCloud photo library on your iPhone.  Then you can connect the iPhone to a USB port and use Image Capture to remove all the photos from the iPhone.

You can also download pictures from iCloud by using the web interface of your iCloud to www.icloud.com account.  Launch the Photos.app on this page and select the photos to download.

  • Remove photos from the iphone after import

Hi, I'm new on this but I can't find an answer by reading the previous posts.

I always was able to import my photos and click the button "erase after importing" and my photos would be removed from my phone, but recently it tells me there is an error during this operation and the pictures are still on my phone using a lot of memory. Anyone know why this feature no longer works? I'm really not what although it is complicated with my pc, everything is usually automatically when I plug in my phone. Can someone give advice?

    Thank you

You have iCloud library enabled on the iPhone? (in settings > iCloud > Photos & camera)?

So you can't delete photos from the iPhone, because they are actually stored in iCloud and only in reverse on the iPhone.

Disable the iCloud photo library, if you want to download the pictures manually by USB.  But be sure, that optimize storage is disabled and all the pictures were downloaded again icloud before disabling iCloud photo library.

  • How to remove photos from the iPhone SE

    July 2016

Computer: iMac running OSX 10.11.5 El Capitan

    Phone: iPhone SE

Buy the new iphone SE.  All properly transferred from old phone, via iCloud, but the new phone memory is almost full, and I need to remove about 300 photos.

I plugged the phone on my Mac with the USB cable.  The phone does NOT appear as a disk in the Finder, as said the seller of phone.

I was able to import all the photos to the Mac with picture Capture and preview, so the pictures are safe, but neither app shows a way to remove photos from the phone.

'Image Capture help' and several items of third say there are buttons on the bottom of the screen to Capture of Image for "show thumbnails in a list (list view button) or to see large thumbnails (thumbnail view button), or to turn (rotation) or delete (delete key) images."

    NOT TRUE.

The other buttons appear, but not the button 'delete '.

I used an extract for years, and it does not remove images.

So how to delete photos from my iPhone SE?  Do I have to look at all the pictures of 300 and delete each individually?

You can delete several photos at the same time on the iPhone.

  • How to remove photos from the iPhone after import in Lightroom on Mac

I went back to Lightroom after opening was abandoned by Apple and I'm happy to be back. I can easily import photos from my iPhone 6 on my desk, but what to do with the pictures on my phone. With opening could easily automatically delete photos from the iPhone. I don't see anything similar in Lightroom. Do I have to remove my photos manually by selecting one at a time? I don't want to delete the folders that I created.

I'm not stored on the cloud or automatically sending my photos in Lightroom.

    Thank you

This function no longer exists in LR as Adobe says that it was originally people loose photos, accidentally I think, so it must be done manually. To be honest I never used no deletion automatic, I want to import and check all is well before any withdrawals!

  • I deleted all my photos from my iPhone 6 s but still taking 3.1 GB of data

I have an I-phone, 6s and I downloaded all my photos then removed manually from my I-phone, but they always show my photos that use 3.1 GB of data on my phone. How to update or delete or anything else I should do to make more room on my phone of the data being used for photos that are no longer on the phone? Help I have tried all suggestions with no luck.

After you make sure that you have saved all your photos on your computer, make sure that iCloud library is DISABLED on your iPhone. Then go to the album recently deleted photos on the iPhone and remove all the images from there.
