    Delete the iPhoto library?

If so, which file to remove - see PHOTO...

All this without losing any data.

    Thank you.

You will not lose data if you delete the iPhoto library - you don't have an it's one you delete

However is it discouraged because it will save very little space and you may want to or have need of the later - iPhoto library it is best to wait at least three months and when you remove it remember to archive everything first just in case where you want or need

  • Delete the iPhoto library?

I just noticed that I have a migrated iPhoto Library with 76 GB last opening in April 2015.

The photo library occupies about 90 GB and update.

Can I delete the old library to free up space which could be just a left over after the upgrade for the Photos?

Yes, the media files are hardlinked, so it won't make anywhere near as much space as it appears, it will be. In addition, you will not be able to reopen the iPhoto library.

  • Delete a photo library, now can bring into the iPhoto library

I have Photos of El Capitan put in place to manage multiple libraries on the same MacBook Pro internal hard drive.  I was trying to create a new additional library, but seem to have screwed things up.

I created the new photo library, called "BB_Photos", then introduced in photos from iPhoto to Snow Leopard.  I note that the same name iPhoto library is on a second internal hard drive.  The new library seems to have created OK in El Capitan.  However, I was unhappy and trashed the library of Photos of El Capitan, in the hope of re - create.  Now I can't pictures released Photos a second time.

In Snow Leopard, the library presented as 'BB_Photos.migratedphotolibrary' and I can line up the pictures of El Capitan.  (Even once, note that these are on two separate disks, because I am dual boot.)  Photos I am trying to re-import or something, but I trashed this library.  Are photos ransacked still hiding somewhere in the Photos?

The iPhoto library is visible from El Capitan pictures inside, but it is grayed out and not available.  However, I can still open and view inside Snow Leopard iPhoto library.

How can I cancel my original error and get "BB_Photos" in El Capitan pictures?  I can't the library of Snow Leopard to be "not migrated" so Photos can see it again?

Photos does not open "BB_Photos", because the file name extension ".migratedphotolibrary" shows that the library has already migrated to the Photos.

Simply restore the file name extension ".photolibrary". You can do this in the Info Panel.

Select "BB_Photos... migratedphotolibrary" in the Finder, then enter the ⌘I key combination to open the information panel. Change the file name extension in the "Name & Extension" section of the Info Panel.

You may need to click on, then uncheck "hide the Extension."

  • I copied the folder iPhoto to my 'images' on an external drive and all photos disappeared both external drive and the iPhoto library. Do you know where they are?

Hello! I have a big problem!

I copied the folder "Images" that is default in my Mac on an external drive.

Inside the 'Images' folder, there is the iPhoto folder.

When I reopened iPhoto, all photos disappeared from the iPhoto library and the external drive. I left alone with very little, very old photos.

Do you know where my pictures maybe? Photos in iPhoto has also lost all the flags...

Thank you in advance for the answer...

What software (name and version) are you using? What format is the EHD? How is it connected? What exactly did you do step by step

Bottom line is that correctly copy a package does not remove anything so you did something wrong and we need to know exactly what you have and what you have done to help

  • The contents of the iPhoto library "copy of iPhoto library" has already been migrated to Photos.  Open the Photos to display your library or use a compatible version of iPhoto to open the iPhoto library. How can I fix?

The contents of the iPhoto library "copy of iPhoto library" has already been migrated to Photos.  Open the Photos to display your library or use a compatible version of iPhoto to open the iPhoto library.

    What you trying to do?

You want to open your iPhoto library in iPhoto or the new Photos.app?  and what version of Mac OS X and iPhoto you have installed on your Mac?

If you have improved your Mac to Mac OS X 10.11,2, El Capitan, you can open your photo libraries or in News Photos for application mac or you can continue to use iPhoto, but only iPhoto 9.6.1 will work on El Capitan.

IPhoto update (see user tip of Barney: cannot be updated iPhoto because it is not available in the App Store)

Once an iPhoto Library was opened in Photos the extension will change to ".migratedphotolibrary".  To open this library in iPhoto again, change the extension of filename in '.photolibrary '.

  • Cannot open iPhoto Library as it says library version is too old - have tried to download the iPhoto library valuation tool - still does not open.

Hi, I saved my photos on my passport, since I upgraded my phone and now I can't open the photos as it says that the version of the library is too old. I've uploaded my photos from my old laptop to my new office using my passport and still can't open. I tried to download the iPhoto library valuation tool but still does not open. Can someone please?

    Thank you

I tried to download the iPhoto library valuation tool but still does not open.

But install you and run the iPhoto Library upgrade?  Just the download is not enough.  You need to open the library in upgrader iPhoto library and let it prepare the library.  After installation, you will find the iPhoto Library upgrade in the "Utilities" folder in the "Applications" folder

  • Opening, lack of masters after importing the iPhoto library

I have a large (about 14 000 pictures) iPhoto library, which seems to work correctly when opened directly into iPhoto 9.6.1 or directly in Aperture 3.6. When open in one of those, all the "originals" or the "masters" can be located, and there is no problem.

I want to merge this library in a large Aperture library. I tried to do this using file-> import-> library, who ran with no error message. After the work of import, most photos imported into iPhoto show an error icon, indicating that they are absent from their master. There are about 9 500 photos with masters missing, according to opening. I can use the tool to "Locate the referenced files", and then I see all these pictures with masters missing have "null" as the name of the volume in their way, and their path begins with the year of the import job. Path of the example:

    2012/01/03/20120103-185643/DSC02345. JPG

To reconnect the master, I can navigate to the iPhoto library container and click the 'Masters' folder in the library container. As soon as I click on the folder of "Masters", the tool referenced files locates the record (since the rest of the path matches). See the screenshot:

This method will not work for me, however, because the button "Log everything" does nothing. It will reconnect only one photo at a time, then the development of the upper part of the tool files referenced changes, and I need to re - click on the missing file missing, re - click the 'Masters' folder and click on reconnect again. I can't make that 9 500 times.

Then why Aperture loses these masters when it is important to iPhoto? Is it possible to reconnect all of this?

Then why Aperture loses these masters when it is important to iPhoto? Is it possible to reconnect all of this?

The problem seems to be the Masters folder offline state.

have you tried to repair or rebuild the iPhoto library before trying to merge into the Aperture library (Aperture 3 User Manual: repair and rebuild your Aperture library)?

is the library with the iPhoto in question on an external disk library?  If so, how the hard drive is formatted?

  • I found that if it becomes necessary to use time machine to return to an earlier existence to reinstall the iphoto library, if for some reason, you lose lose, then when you try to synchronize your ipad is not recognized by the computer.  As one

I found that if it becomes necessary to use time machine to return to an earlier existence to reinstall the iphoto library, if for some reason, you lose lose, then when you try to synchronize your ipad is not recognized by the computer.  So when you try to synchronize the pictures, they are all removed from the ipad and trying to reinstall everything again.

This may or may not work immediately.  In my case, only half the photos have been installed, and then the error message came that the rest of 9000 can be installed.

I contacted Apple support team who has made various suggestions.  Subsequently clicking on a photo list in iTunes were all going again and pictures of 9000 then installed.  When I asked the support team what could happen I was told that it was a "glitch".  I don't like seeds they mean that there could be an error in coding somewhere.

Here me again.  I use an iMac and iPad.  I don't know why XP and iPhone came.

  • What is the relationship between the library of Photos and the iPhoto library?

I'm asking this question here because I can't find all the relevant information online.

I was dealing with imac a client recently who had a full boot drive. I noticed that his old iPhoto library used 126GB while she had already made the transition to the Photos. His photo library said that he was using a lot more (200 + if I remember correctly). I copied the iPhoto on an external drive library and deleted. Then, I opened the contents of the package and imported pictures remains in program pictures to make sure that I wasn't actually remove all of his memories. Once the work is finished, I was surprised to see that there are more than 6 GB of free space on his computer. What gives? Is there a relationship between the old iPhoto library and new photo library? If so, what is it? Is what I did without danger? I understand at the time that she will not be able to return to iPhoto. But what I'm missing?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

No - they are totally separate - connection or relationship of any kind is not

or the other can be deleted without any effect on the other - but it won't save much space at all and is not recommended - which is exactly what you have seen- Photos saves disk space to share images with your iPhoto or Aperture - Apple Support libraries

  • Photos referenced in the photo library are in the iPhoto library

I have 26 pictures in my library of Photos that are referenced photos. I want to collect my library of Photos. However, when I try to do it says Photos that I need to allow it for the folder that contains these 26 photos. Unfortunately, this folder is inside my old library iPhotos, which is a package and therefore cannot be accessed via the dialog window Photos gives me.

I tried to find 26 photos manually via the Finder via "Show package content", but I can't find them. A Spotlight search did not help either.

Does anyone know how add these 26 photos referenced in my photo library.

The strange thing is all the other photos (over 7,000) migrated my iPhotos library my library of Photos with no problems.

I have 26 pictures in my library of Photos that are referenced photos. I want to collect my library of Photos.

Have you tried to select the photos referenced in Photos and then use the command "file > consolidate?  To copy the original image files referenced in the photo library and making photos managed them.

What happens when you try?  I see that sign.

  • Photos will not open the iPhoto library.

    Hello world.

I try to open an existing iPhoto library that I register before I migrated to this new Mac Pro desktop, but the new Photos app it will not open. It gives me an error message and then I see a blank screen of Photos.

How can I convert this iPhotos Photos library and why is - it doesn't happen automatically?

Thanks in advance for your help.

It gives me an error message and then I see a blank screen of Photos.

What is the error message?  And where is your old iPhoto Library stored?

If you try to open the library on an external drive, make sure that the drive is compatible.  The player must be in Mac OS extended (journaled) format and should not be used by Time Machine.
