If I no longer use iCloud I lose all my photos stored in the Cloud?

I am undecided if I want to upload all of my pictures on iCloud photo library. I learned by others than if I always chose to no longer use iCloud for storing my photos I'll lose these pictures. Another thing, what I was told is that iCloud store pictures for awhile and then I won't lose them. I'm confused about all this, but I like to use my Apple devices!

I know that many of you, Apple lovers know how to use this program better than most, please offer advice that you may have!

Thank you!!

I learned by others than if I always chose to no longer use iCloud for storing my photos I'll lose these pictures.

If you use iCloud photo library, you have two options:

  1. You can download your photo library in iCloud, but keep all original photos on your Mac as well.
  2. You can transfer your photo library on iCloud and enable optimization of storage.  Then you can save storage on your Mac, but you will need to download the originals from iCloud, when you want to edit or export your photos. You can change, if you have an Internet connection.

Without optimization of storage you can disable iCloud library anytime, because all the pictures are on your Mac. If you "Optimize storage", you will have to disable this option and wait for your photos to download it again, before disabling iCloud photo library.  See this help page: https://help.apple.com/photos/mac/1.0/?lang=en#/phtf5e48489c (last paragraph).

Another thing, what I was told is that iCloud store pictures for awhile and then I won't lose them.

This applies to 'My Photo Stream', not iCloud Photo library.  iCloud provides many services to be used with photos.  My photo stream is a way to transfer photos between devices.  It broadcasts photos between devices and implements buffer your most recent photos for a limited time, so that all devices can download new photos.  But this isn't a photo library in iCloud, see: iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ

If you have a large library of Photos, you need a subscription paid iCloud to transfer the full library.

iCloud library is useful if you have multiple Macs or mobile devices and want to keep the libraries updated on all your devices.  Or if you want to be able to access your photo library in iCloud from mobile devices, because you don't have enough storage on the device.

But it is not intended as a backup of your photos with a cloud.  You will need to keep a backup of your library of Photos as well.

The photos full size will always go to the cloud. They also remain on (or download) your Mac depends on if 'Download this Mac originals' or 'Optimize Mac storage' is ticked in Photos > Preferences > iCloud. If it is enabled, it also depends on how much storage is available on your Mac.

How can I install/uninstall and will I lose all my old films (for the most part stored on external hard drives). Thanks for your suggestions.

You will not lose anything, but the app if you uninstall. If you decide to uninstall use this app to make sure that all the other files which depends on FCE are also deleted however I can't give you any assurance as to whether you will be able to reinstall so that it works correctly. It is a software that has not been supported for almost 5 years and there are conflicting reports as to its compatibility with OS X 10.11. Can't I test it myself.

Maybe someone else will chime in with their own experiences.

Clouds and non-Cloud programs are installed in different folders and can co-exist

However... If ever you cancel your subscription of cloud, you can have problems with your previous programs

  • I have lightroom on my computer I'll lose all my photos if I go on this plan?

I have lightroom on my computer I'll lose all my photos if I go on this plan?  I have an old version of Lightroom and Photoshop but that you need to update because the technology in my new camera does not match older software.  Did anyone done this before? Do I need to uninstall the old PS and LR before installing the new?

Your photos have nothing to do with the programs, so I don't know what you're asking. Why Adobe should even take care to remove them? They are just files on your computer in a location you have chosen, after all. Of course there is no harm by saving before executing any operation critical system...

  • DVD + R discs lose all content (photos) - how to find them?

My laptop with Windows 7 has several times made me lose all my files on my DVD + R discs.  I don't know if I do something wrong when inserting the disk (incorrect formatting?) or something else when you remove the disc?  I lost important files on disks too many times.  Previously Microsoft docs, etc.  Now I've lost hundreds of photos on a DVD + R.  When I insert the disc, the disc name is not recognized and it said drag files in this folder to add to the disc.  But where they went or where they permanently deleted?  Can anyone provide an overview?  THX.

    Hello

It is always best to save the file to a folder on your hard disk, then copy the file to the removable drive.  Save the file on the media may result in corruption of the document.

Try using Recuva (free version) from Piriform to recover the files.

  • I want that all my photos on icloud and remove all my photos on my mac

In the finder on my Macbook, I see "Images" as a folder.  I want all those images my Macbook off the coast and they are stored in iCloud.  If I import them into the Photo, safely remove them from my Macbook?

If I import them into the Photo, safely remove them from my Macbook?

If you import the pictures you can delete photos in your folder "Images", but photos will always be on your Mac, they will fair in the photo library instead. If you turn on iCloud photo library, the photos will be get synced to the cloud, you might turn on optimization on your Mac, which means the photos will take much less space than they did.

  • Met Lightroom and error reading cache... I see to delete the cache of the preview, BUT I will lose all work/photos by doing this?

I see not to delete the cache of the preview, BUT I will lose all work

    Hi kistah,

The error indicates that the preview cache has been corrupted, so she would get recreated himself as you start previewing images in Lightroom after you remove it.

You will not lose any work/changes by removing the cache of previews.

Just get rid of the .lrdata (not .lrcat) file

I tried to backup my iPhone photos and videos, I pay la.99 per month for 50 GB of storage.  I bought a new phone (6 s) so I need to save it upward (iPhone 5 c), when I go to icloud.com and open pictures a lot of them are not uploaded, videos aren't there at all.  I activated the iPad and iPhone to be stored in icloud, what should I do to ensure that they get downloaded correctly?  If I click on an image that has not added it comes with an error report to send to apple.

  • Does anyone use iCloud for everything?

Does anyone use iCloud as your main service (i.e. for synchronization, documents of cloud and primary email address)? I mainly use it as my primary service, but finds that she has its drawbacks, especially when it comes to Mail and web messaging on icloud.com - it is a bit old and lack of functionality.

Wonder if anyone has experiences and possible suggestions to fix/improve the service?

I use my account for all iCloud. It is my main email account, iMessage account, allows you to synchronize my calendars, is my main calendar, synchronize and stores my contacts, contains most of my personal documents (although I also use the box, Dropbox and OneDrive).

I had no problems with it. What features Miss do you? I rarely use iCloud.com. I mainly go there through the apps on my iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac.

  • using iCloud for photos

Decided that I would try using iCloud for synchronization of photos to all my devices - ipad and iPhone.  A simple and way big to keep all the features of update of the sounds.  I followed all the directions for setting this up and find that this more complicated that we shouldn't.  I finally got some pictures in the library iCloud for my computer, but of course they do not appear on the iphone or iPad.  I apparently won't implement the iphone or the ipad properly.  I think I tried everything I could find on this operation, but nothing works. For some reason when on the iPad and try to access the iCloud.com with Safari, I get the message that the server is not responding.  When you do the same thing on the iPhone, it connects but it takes me to a window that says "Setup iCloud on this device."  Seems weird like iCloud is already on this currency.   Bottom line is that I spent hours too much try to do the job as well as to purchase more space icloud. I might have to overcome my 8 year old grandson to help me.

Yyou don't use iCloud.com to display your photos on your iPad and your phone, you use the Photos app with iCloud library active, just like the photos on your Mac.
