New on Mac w/purchase of Pro. You want to run Windows applications. 8 vs 10?
New on Mac w/purchase of Pro. You want to run Windows applications. 8 against 10 using virtualization?
The two big names of virtualization are Parallels and VMware. They have a sort of leap-frogging each other in terms of features. Parallels has a fairly seamless integration between Mac and Windows.
Your Mac is also already comes with Boot Camp, which lets you install Windows on a separate partition.

'New' Refurb Mac Mini froze within the 1st week - should I return?
We had our refurbished Mac Mini (8 GB, 1 TB) for less than a week, on the fifth day, he froze in the morning when my son tried to open a session (session was still active since the day before, but the Mac Mini was asleep). The predefined cover for a long period of time, and although the mouse is moved, it did not react when you have clicked on anything whatsoever. I had to finally press the power switch on the back, turn off the power. There is not a lot of software installed on it yet, chrome, software the Microsoft Bluetooth mouse, keyboard of Logitech software and a few games of my son got out of the Apple App store (but did not play at the time). I ran the diagnostic equipment, but it has not reported anything.
I'm new to Mac, so I'm wondering which, if it is a red flag, because it is a refurbished device and that I should just go back to the store and get a non renovated unit?
Download and run EtreCheck, created by one of his own assistants here in CSA. It is a diagnostic tool that is very useful for us to find problems. It will also give us additional specifications on your Mac. After his execution after the logfile here. It will never contain any personal information.

My iPod classic is currently synced on my old windows pc - how can I send it to my new Apple Mac without losing any of my music. All my music is downloaded from the ads?
If you still have your old PC in working condition, with its iTunes library intact, not to use your iPod to transfer the library to your new Mac. You transfer your data from user (not just your iTunes data) directly from the old PC to the new Mac.
There is an automated system called Migration Wizard, if your system meets the requirements. Be sure to have a backup of the data.
Migration of Windows v1.0.5.7 Assistant
Alternatively, for the part of iTunes, this paper outlines how do it manually, using an external drive.
Manage and backup your iTunes media library - Apple Support
To summarize, the first step is to make sure that all your iTunes data is stored in the iTunes folder ("consolidate"), which is located in your folder music user account. The second step is to copy this folder iTunes on an external drive, to create a backup. The third step is to restore that backup the iTunes on your new Mac folder. Launch iTunes to use data from the old PC iTunes; It looks like iTunes running on your old PC, complete with all the songs (and other types of media) and data, such as reading lists, notes, play count, etc.
Your iPod continues to synchronize with it, because for the iPod, it's the same iTunes library (on another computer). If you using your iPod as a data source, you add your old data to an iTunes library on Mac. It is NOT complete. The iPod sees it as a different iTunes library. iPods are not designed to be your data from iTunes backup.
However, IF the iPod is now the only place where your songs are stored (and you have no other backup), thanks for posting back.

I'm new to mac products. I think I pushed my icon "launch" into space by accident. Now I can't find it, it is no longer on the dock. I'm not tech-savvy, I hope someone can help me to find it.
If I posted this in the wrong section, please let me know.
Do you mean the Launchpad? If so, just drag it from the Applications folder in the dock.

New to Mac... security issue?
Hi all
First of all, I apologize because I know that this question is probably asked a LOT.
Most of the answers I find is for quite awhile ago so I just want to know if this is still the standard?
I am new to Mac computers. I've had my Mac Book Pro for about two months now and I love it.
I always feel uncomfortable not having a good antivirus. But I have so many mixed answers for this. People I know personally are shared with if you want to get one or not, and even with people online.
I saw some people recommend Sophos where as some have said that they had problems with it. Where, as some people keep saying not to do any AV.
I was hoping someone can give me an unbiased answer... Please?
My main reason finally give in and ask this is because I accidentally pressed .co instead of .com for a website I often and I got a popup saying to call my provider internet (they have mentioned the right) blah blah blah. I know that's not real, so I force quit it but there still feel uncomfortable...
Thank you
Unless you use Windows on your Mac, or are concerned that malicious Windows software, you don't need an antivirus product.
Viruses are not the only type of malware. Use your common sense and keep the Mac OS X update.

Well, 1st of all... Hello. Second... If you take it easy on me please... I am new to Mac but not new for iPhones. I have an old 4 I used to keep an eyeout on my 9 year old... I just got my mac and started having all loaded profiles and today there is no activity on iMessage. I think I know the answer, but as I said, I got a Mac for about 2 days, but it took many years of iPhones.
My initial guess is that continuity is not able to interact with any iOS prior to 8.1, but it used to. The only other was activate keychain and turn on the transfer procedure. The other phone is a 6. Anyone know what all the seetings should be?
Thank you...
Cory
Continuity is not supported on the iPhone 4.

I buy a new 2015 mac mini with El Capitan. I currently have a 2013 mac mini with Mountain Lion. It would benefit me to upgrade my 2013 to El Capitan, before migrating my information to my mac mini to 2015? Thanks in advance!
Yes, it is better to update the old Mac EC.
Make sure that you back up the old Mac before the upgrade.
Note the application of some may require updated to work with CBS. To check see it:
Also, some devices may require updated drivers and for some devices such drivers do not exist.

I am an existing Member of cloud with lightroom installed on a desktop and laptop. I get a new computer - Mac. Can I transfer my account to a MAC user? How does it work?
Yes, you can use cc on your new mac.
Just install the application of cc on your new computer, apps download Adobe Creative Cloud desktop | CC free trial Adobe
Use the desktop application to install your programs of cc.
as mentioned above, you should logout of your desktop or laptop computer to connect to your new computer (and you will need to connect to install and use your cc programs). but you can leave cc installed on all 3 of your computers and log in for 2 of the 3 when you want.
