iMac freezes / unstable / slow

Dear community

It looks like any program is the treatment on my Mac. But I never installed anything since the beginning except XCode (which comes from Apple). Since 3 years now just to "update" all the stuff, the system crashes from time to time. It restarts and it becomes to be hot without trial running. I checked on the activity monitor. Nothing except the Photo-Agent, Finder and some Apple services are running with no CPU usage. I can't believe it's a virus but everything is looking for a hidden process.

Concerning

OSX - El Capitan

iMac 21.5 "i5 2.5 GHz

    Hi only1tu,

Have you tried to reboot the machine.

otherwise try to disable the GPU in the Lightroom preferences.

Go to the menu of Lightroom

    Click on Preferences

    Go to the performance tab

    Uncheck the GPU

    Restart the Lightroom.

Let us know if that helps.

    Kind regards

  • My iMac freezes during a turn on and between two switching user accounts

My 2011 iMac has been crashing for weeks. Usually, it freezes when I turn it on, connect to switching user accounts or user accounts.

I upgraded to Sierra yesterday and I continued using for hours and it was fine.

I turned on today; some of the Apple applications do not work... Mail, App Store, Safari (this is what I tried). Responsible mail application, saw a list of emails, but when I click on a particular message, the message will not load. Safari cannot load a Web page at all (I'm now using Chrome). AppStore cannot load anything too.

I asked for help here before the crash but I was reluctant to share the report of being. Now, I've read about it and understand how it works. The report says "failed".

Appreciate the help of the community. Thank you.

    Trusteer Endpoint Protection (2016-09-20) [Support]

The following may be useful: https://www.trusteer.com/support/uninstalling-rapport-mac-os-x

It is slow since updated for Sierra.

A part of which is related to the upgraded Photos app. If you have lots of photos (in thousands), it will take a lot of time for it reach to analyze your photo library. The best thing to do is to let him finish, as long as it could be. 1 hour per 1000 photographs as a rough estimate. When it is finally over, the performance of your Mac will be back to normal.

Definitely get rid of "Trusteer" however. As a needless "anti-virus" garbage is still installed on your Mac, it is unreasonable to expect it to work the way it was designed to work. Safari won't work. Mail will not work. A lot of other things that you really need to work just won't work. Please read of effective defenses against software malware and other threats.

    DuckDuckGo - DuckDuckGo - http://duckduckgo.com (2015-07-11)

You don't need the Extension Safari DDG, since DDG has been integrated natively in Safari for some time. Select the Safari menu > Preferences > Search and select the dropdown Search engine DuckDuckGo . Then, select Extensions, select the extension DuckDuckGo and Uninstall.

Leaving the current Extension is OK but it does nothing.

    Request for WDSecurityHelper (Security.app/Contents/WDSecurityHelper.app/Applications/WD)

I don't know what it is. If you do not either, get rid of it. At least delete your login items.

  • iMac freezes after upgrade to Mac OS Sierra

I have a 27 iMac late 2009 ". After the transition to macOS Sierra, I got freeze about once or twice a day. The only way to get the system operational is again via a cold start. In this case, the pointer of the mouse still works, but otherwise, the system is not responding. I have never had this problem in 7 years using the same material, so a bit of a loss.

How much RAM you have installed? You can check in the  menu > about this Mac. Slopes of the Sierra, but barely, with 4 GB, but it really needs min. 8 GB runs correctly.

You can also try Safe Boot mode.

    -------

Restart in Safe Boot mode by holding down the SHIFT key at startup. Secure boot is quite slow because the operating system performs some cleanup and verification tasks, so give it time. Once you're completely connected, restart normally.

  • iMac became unstable, crashing Finder

    Hello

Recently had some problems with my iMac. It became slow with the rotation appearing beach ball often any application that I use. Finder also broke down several times. Sometimes all the icons disappear from the desktop and it freezes. A few times, the Office was completely black. I always force a hard restart and restart my iMac.

I did the Apple Hardware Test and it detected no downside. I ran the EtreCheck software and it reported problems with the hard drive. I have included below the full text of the report. When I look at my system logs, I've also seen a few entries like this:

    kernel [0]: CoreStorageGroup::completeIORequest - error 0xe00002ca detected LVG 'Macintosh HD' (B7659A0D-E01C-41C2-9BA5-72E857DBEDC7), pv 26D6041E-D475-46B7-B45F-050577BE42DA, near LV byte offset = 360479416320.

    kernel [0]: disk2: i/o error.

It is the failure of hard drive, which is why the crash and slowness that happens? Curiously, all this started after Apple connected to my iMac Support two days ago to help me with a different problem with my iTunes account. I had to download a program and run it so that they could see my screen. I'm sure it's a coincidence, but always a little strange that these problems began to occur shortly after.

What should I do? Do I need to have the hard drive replaced?

    Thank you

    Tom

  • iMac running ridiculously slow

Everything on my iMac 2012/2013 is slow stupid. To start, the opening of applications, new windows/tabs and same type is delayed.

I tried a few cleaners free antivirus with nothing as a problem and no help.

Help / a decent (willing to pay) antivirus recommendation would be very appreciated!

You might have a little worn on the RAM sticks. Either replace them or get an upgrade. I had the same problem with my iMac to mid-2011 and it has 4 GB of ram I upgraded to 12 GB and it works perfectly now.

  • iMac became very slow and unresponsive

    Hello

I have an iMac which, in the last two days, suddenly became unusably slow. Almost every click brings up the spinning beachball even just after a reboot. iTunes cannot play a melody without pausing every minute or two. Same Safari is really slow, so I have still not tried more demanding such as Lightroom.

Its an iMac mid 2010, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HD with 305 GB free. Im running El captain, 10.11.6

Any ideas what could be causing this or what I could do to remedy the situation? IM thinking I have to go through the pain of wiping the hard drive and reinstall everything. But I'd really rather avoid because I was planning on getting a new iMac when they release then them and I don't want to go through all that process again.

I hope someone has an idea of something I could try before doing this?

    Thank you.

    Andy

  • iMac is painfully slow startup

    Hello

It is has been a problem for a while, but seems to have slightly worsened with El Capitan. After start-up or a restart, it is a good 6-8 minutes - without exaggeration - until my computer can begin to open programs without huge lag. About 10 minutes until it is at full speed.

    iMac (27 inch, end of 2013), 3.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Any ideas, or is this normal? I repaired disk permissions, flushed trash and generally keep the machine running as clean as possible without being an expert.

    Thank you.

It is not normal, not even remotely.

Backup everything then check your hard drive. Slow start ups can be a symptom of a failing drive.

  • iMac (late 2012) slow operation.  EtreCheck report includes

Don't know what else to do, as someone has suggestions to get my mac running a little faster?

    Thanks, Corey.

  • Why is my brand new 16 GB, i7 21 "iMac so so slow?

I recently bought an iMac 21 "with the following specifications.

    21.5 "iMac 4K 2015 retina

    Intel Core i7 3.3GHz

    16 GB 1867 MHz DDR3

Intel Pro Iris Graphics 6200 1536 MB

Since the first day it worked remarkably slow. Even during the opening of things such as the finder and system preferences.

I currently own a macbook pro so that works 5 times faster than my iMac.

You have any suggestions of why this could be?

    Thanks in advance

Have you registered.   (It is covered by a guarantee of 12 months).

  • Old iMac is unusably slow

OK, I know that my old iMac is done towards the end of his life and I use my 2nd Mac now, but this iMac (version 7.1, dating back to mid-2007) is now almost unusably slow, in the respect that it takes a few minutes running until I can move the cursor. The browser takes about 20 minutes to start up and just try to click on the buttons in dialogue to confirm actions causes the beachball to appear. He runs the last Mac OSX (El Capitan), all this so far. The memory is maxed out at 4 GB and it is around 80 GB of available disk space. He was one good horse to battle, using Photoshop and other. Now, he struggles to open TextEdit.

I ran utility disk to check problems (there is not) as well as caches, etc, to try to optimize the performance of compensation. I think the best solution now is to do a clean install. What would be the best way to do this? I have 10.6 disk (my mac still has an optical drive), I could do a clean install on, and then update again to 10.11, backup of data and my Time Machnine backup applications. Or I'd be best to just do a restore from Time Machine and does not return to 10.6?

    What is the best procedure?

  • the iMac freezing after constant put 10.11.5 updated

Constant freezing and not wanting to restart correctly, takes forever and multiple tests.

Try to start by holding down the SHIFT key at startup. Secure boot is quite slow because the operating system does a lot of cleanup and verification tasks, so give it time. Once you're completely connected, restart normally.

  • IMac is crazy slow

I have a Mid 2010, 27 "iMac with an i7 2.93 Ghz and 12 GB of memory. Ive got a disk of 1 TB with a little more than 300 concerts to the left.

I have an external drive connected via firewire 800, but I don't think I have even turned on during the past two weeks.

I know that the machine is well up there in years, but since the upgrade to El Capitan, I die right here.

I upgraded via the app store of Snow Leopard, a couple of weeks. It was not exactly smoking quickly with Snow Leopard, but this is ridiculous. If it's important, I also upgraded from Adobe CS5 Adobe CC (all applications). Pretty sure that the system had fallen behind b before installing Adobe, but I wrote chalked up things I'd read about Spotlight indexing still holding.

It is not just Adobe apps, however. Safari is slow. Office 11 apps, iWork ' 09, FCP apps. I can get a beachball simply by looking at the funny thing. And it is with applications unique solo performer with any other close.

By a discussion earlier, I logged in as a guest, and after initial 1st an application (tested CC Photoshop, Word and Pages) everything worked so well, it made me want to cry. So I guess the problem lies in my user account, but I don't have any idea what I need to do to fix it.

    All tips will be appreciated.

Download and run EtreCheck, created by one of his own assistants here in CSA. It is a diagnostic tool that is very useful for us to find problems. It will also give us additional specifications on your Mac. After his execution after the logfile here. It will never contain any personal information
