iMac frozen by using the migration wizard

Hi, I tried to use the Migration Wizard to transfer my settings my iMac to a MacBook Pro new etc.  The transfer failed, and now my iMac froze with transferring your screen information, suggesting it will update your system settings.  On that note, it has been frozen for several hours.  I tried to force quit but it sounds right.  I also tried turning it off, but when I turn on the power, even once, it returns the same screen.

Anyone have any suggestions. ?

By 'frozen' do you mean that you cannot move the cursor?

If two Macs are connected wireless, it can take several hours, even days, finish the Migration Wizard. If you can't wait that long, you can force the Mac does not close in holding the power button down for several seconds. Then, connect the Mac to another using Ethernet cables and if necessary appropriate adapters and start the migration. You can connect to each other directly, or through a router. A wired connection to avoid the vagaries of wireless communication.

  • Issue of new creative cloud Mac after you use the Migration Wizard.

I bought a new Mac and used Apple's Migration assistant to transfer from the old Mac to the new. Everything works with all applications except creative cloud. Creative cloud indicates that some files are missing and invites me to download and install the creative cloud again. I have it and run the application. The application runs for a minute, as is the installation I get the same error - creative cloud is missing some files or files are corrupted, please download and reinstall - it brings me to the Web page to download it again. I'm stuck in this infinite loop!

Old Mac where the creative cloud works well is a 15 "Retina Display MacBook Pro. The new Mac is a 27 "iMac.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

TonyTech in the future do not migrate or copy your applications from one computer to the other.  You can always recover however.  Please run all the programs uninstaller available in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder.  Once this please also use the CC cleaning tool to use CC Cleaner tool to resolve installation problems. CC, CS3 - CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html.  Once the CC cleaning tool is done you can try and reinstall the Adobe applications included with your creative cloud membership.

  • My password changed after using the migration wizard

I have improved my SSD and installed OSX then migration assistant to transfer everything from my old SSD to the new. Now that he's been transferred I can't complete the process, because the password I am using has changed.

I was running Yosemite but installed the new drive, I used the Apple internet option to install the OS, which returned to Lion.

I chose 'Reset using Apple ID', but nothing is happening.

I also tried the master password option, but do not always remember with a "master" password I assumed he was referring to an admin password but my user account is in my admin account.

    Any ideas?

First, please ensure that caps lock is not on. Note that on some models of laptops, the LED of the caps lock key may not work when you start up if FileVault is turned on. When shift caps lock is enabled, there will be an arrow icon in the text box where you enter the password. Build on this, not on the LED.

Another reason why the password can not be recognized, is that the keyboard (input source) in the login screen is not what you expect. You can select one of the available provisions by choosing in the menu flag in the upper right, if it is displayed, or even browse the by pressing the key combination command-space or command-option-space.

If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the password Apple ID, then maybeApple ID can be used to reset your password for the user account. In OS X 10.10 and later versions, this option also works with FileVault, but only if you have enabled when you turn on FileVault. It is not retroactive. If not, see below.

Note: If you have enabled FileVault, this procedure does not apply. Follow rather the instructions on this page, under the heading "If you forget your password."

Start in recovery mode. When OS X Utilities window, select

    Utilities ▹ Terminal

in the menu bar at the top of the screen, not one of the items in the OS X Utilities window.

In the window that opens, type this:

    resetp

Press the tab key. The partial order you entered will automatically end this:

    resetpassword

Press return. Opens a window to reset the password. Close the Terminal window to get him out of the way.

Select the boot volume ("Macintosh HD", unless you have given it a different name) if not already selected. You won't be able to do this if FileVault is turned on.

Select your username in the menu option allows you to select the account if not already selected.

Follow the prompts to reset the password. It is safer to choose a password that includes only the characters a - z, A - Z and 0-9.

    Select

    ▹ Restart 

    in the menu bar.

You should now be able to login with the new password, but will reset the keychain (empty). If you have forgotten the password for the keychain (which is normally the same as the password for the connection), there is no way to recover it.

  • Re: Creative cloud problem on new Mac after you use the Migration Wizard.

It is a terrible response.  I've migrated three days ago and am still stuck in a never-ending cycle of errors trying to get CC to function on my brand new MacBook pro.

Thanks for your follow-up.  I found myself on an online chat that guided me through a process to solve my problems.  The most common error was on the CC Apps page, where I have been informed a download error, with instructions to contact technical support or to download Creative Cloud.  It seemed that I needed a clean uninstall of CC, but whenever I tried to do, I received the message "CC uninstalled with some errors.  It's frustrating, because I was in need of a clean uninstall to reinstall, but I couldn't get a clean uninstall successfully.

I would add that some best solution from Adobe seems to be necessary for users who migrate between Macs.  I was quite careful to follow the instructions from Apple, including the update of apps installed before the migration.  I was expecting some problems during this migration, but honestly, the only problem I had was with Adobe CC.

In case this is useful with future users, here are the instructions of Nirvan in Adobe support that finally solved my problems:

Mudassir: Close the creative Cloud Desktop application.

Mudassir: Please open a Finder window, click go > go to folder.

Mudassir:, and then type as ~/Library/Application Support / and press ENTER.

Mudassir:, Please rename the folder Adobe as Adobe_old

Mudassir: Now open the folder search to spend once again, in this type/library/application support / this time and then click OK.

Mudassir: Notice that this time it's just/library and the ~ symbol is not included.

Mudassir: Now, rename new folder Adobe in Adobe_old

Mudassir: Now open the finder window and press it command + shift + U key.

Mudassir: It will open the Utilities folder, then remove the Adobe Application Manager and cloud file Adobe Creative.

Mudassir: Please now open utilities activity monitor.

Mudassir: Then find below process and end them one by one, if they are present:

    Mudassir: 1 cloud creative

    Mudassir: 2 CoreSync

    Mudassir: 3 CCLibrary

    Mudassir: 4 Office Adobe services

    Mudassir: 5 broker IPC Adobe

    Mudassir: 6 demon Adobe Crash

Mudassir: You can complete the AdobeUpdateDeamon as well.

John McGrann: Is not smoking. I should try to force quit?

Mudassir: Yes, you can try to force quit.

Mudassir: If it does not, please ignore it. After awhile, it will automatically timeout.

Mudassir: After that, please download and install Creative Cloud Desktop application using the link below:

    Mudassir: http://creative.adobe.com/products/creative-cloud/

    Mudassir: Please click on applications.

Mudassir: Also, you can remove the folders that we have renamed as Adobe_old under the places below:

    Mudassir: 1. ~/Library/Application Support /.

    Mudassir: 2 / Library/Application Support /.

Thanks for your follow-up, if - I appreciate it.

  • migration of events imovie to new Mac without using the Migration Wizard

    Hello

I want to do the following:

Migrate from iMovie events of an old MacBook Pro (10.6.8 Snow Leopard) created using iMovie ' 08

    TO

(Yosemite 10.10.5) iMac with iMovie 10.1.1

All events are stored on 3 external drives (Nothing on the internal drive of MBP). Disks have FireWire interfaces, I can't connect them directly to the iMac.

The destination is another external drive, with Thunderbolt interface. I copied the serious events in 3 separate directories, but not tried opening them with iMovie. Wasn't sure if there was data stored elsewhere (in ~/Library for example) that might be needed; In addition, I didn't know if I could manually merge the 3 separate records events iMovie with the Finder, or need to do somehow with iMovie.

I manually moved everything some time ago - I haven't used Wizard migration; I didn't have enough disk space attached to the iMac when I moved everything, so I carried on using iMovie on the old MBP.

I googled and read several articles on the events to an external drive / to new Mac, but none of them totally covers my starting position and desired end result.

Would appreciate any insight how to go on this issue, and how and where exactly iMovie keeps all the data you need.

    The articles are (among others):

https://support.Apple.com/en-us/HT202853 "update of projects and events from previous versions of iMovie in iMovie (2014).

http://help.Apple.com/iMovie/#mov3ac6d42c "copy or move a video in your library of events to an external hard drive.

https://support.Apple.com/kb/PH2302 "iMovie 11: copy or move video from your library of events to an external hard drive.

https://support.Apple.com/en-us/HT203049 "move your iMovie for Mac library (2014).

If your iMovie ' 08 projects contain media from outside the record of events (for example, from iPhoto or iTunes) then we must first using iMovie ' 08 on your old computer to "consolidate" your support so that everything is copied in the events folder.  Details for the iMovie 11 version can be found at: http://help.apple.com/imovie/#mov3ac6c7c9

I don't have the ' 08 version help files, but I think it will be the same - you can check with your old Mac.

"Disks have FireWire interfaces, I can't connect them directly to the iMac.

FireWire adapters Thunderbolt are available for about € 30, which would use these drives on your new Mac.

In fact, you can copy the project files and events with the viewfinder of an old external drive to the root level of the new new external drive (which should be Apple - formatted), but it is probably best to do from in iMovie ' 08, as described in the help of Apple.   Do 'copy' and not 'move' - this way you always have a backup of the original on the old disks in case of problems.

I would like to convert the project files and the events of each of the 3 discs one at a time, creating 3 libraries separate iMovie 10.1.1.  You can always rearrange these in iMovie 10 after you have everything updated and verified.  Some people have reported the update of blocking process at any given time, so update in small batches of events and projects is much better than trying to do everything at the same time.

In fact I would try to first simply copy one (or a small group) project and its events associated with the new external with iMovie ' 08 HD then update to ensure that it will work - from iMovie ' 08 for iMovie 10.1.1 is a big jump.

    Good luck!

    Geoff.

  • Where is the Migration Wizard?

I have three MacBook Pro. My most old, 5-6 years, repeated that she was seriously infected by a virus. I erased it. Now, I restart and OS X Utilities push the info, with four options: restore of backup Time Machine, reinstall OS X, Get help online or disk utility. I time Machine using my current Mac brand new, but I can't restore the old Mac directly by using the new Time Machine copies. It tells me to use the Migration Wizard. Where is he? I have yet a third Mac, a few years more recent than this one, that I can restore from reformatted. Is Time Machine restore possible? How can I find Migration Wizard with these four options on the screen? Thank you.

I have a mac mini (2014 - El Capitan) that I have used for some time now and I have many mailboxes (30 +) with many stored messages (100s maybe 1000s).

I recently picked up a 2011 27 iMac which is running OS X Sierra Final Release Candidate due to vision problems.

Both units are working well but I would like to transfer my boxes to the letters, messages, and the account settings from the Mac Mini to the iMac using Migration Assistant to take advantage of the larger screen.

Am I able to select only the data for e-mail (boxes letters, messages and settings) to transfer somewhere in the Migration Wizard interface or will it just to start the transfer of all?

I use iCloud for note, calendars and contacts, but prefer not to use for e-mail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    WN

The simplest option would be to use Time Machine to restore your data.

    Other Options:

You can export the folders you want to transfer the mini using export of Mail under mailbox function in the Menu bar > export a mailbox... Drag to the folder on the desktop on the new iMac and import in Mail. File > import boxes mailbox...

You can also use a third-party application, Emailchemy to export your Mail on the mini and pull only the folders you want and import. If you have many files, it would be a faster option.

    http://www.weirdkid.com/products/emailchemy/

Otherwise, you could drag on the whole Mail > V3 folder let Sierra update data. This assumes that you have already started using Mail to Sierra.

You don't have to use iCloud email to use Apple Mail. I strongly suggest that you use IMAP to service what ever you choose to use.  Comcast, Yahoo, Gmail, AOL, Hotmail (other)

  • iMac fan runs full speed after the migration wizard

Hi, just a clean installed 10.9.5 BONES and then I used the migration assistant to transfer my backup time machine from my old computer. He made the transfer, took nearly 4 hours. Then when he was done he rebooted the computer, and as soon as he started the fans in the computer run at full speed. I have a small (HARD drive fan control) software that I have installed to see the temperature and it tells me 119F and fans are 4962 RPM. Why it does this?

Once the computer restarts, it said it was computer optimization and it can affect performance, can that cause the problem of fan? I did e-mail importing and installing imessage and now I'm looking at the speed of the fan and it is now 118f 4638 RPM... always very noisy. This computer did not a fan NOISE until I migrated my data.  Help, please!

IMac is a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

    4 GB OF RAM

    27 ", end of 2009

    1 TB harddrive

Once the computer restarts, it said it was computer optimization and it can affect performance, can that cause the problem of fan?

Yes. It should settle down after the Spotlight indexing. Which can take some time, depending on the number of files that needed to index.

119 ° F is on the colder side of normal and no reason for concern.
