IMac sleep update af 2016-004

After that I applied yesterday the security fix for 2016-004 to my Imac (dec 2010 model) I can not enter the mode 'sleep'.  I tried to do a safe boot (found a note on the net, that it has solved the problem for some) but this isn't for me

When I try to use mode 'sleep' - the screen turns white as usual and my external USB drive turn off - but I sounds like the fan in the Imac does not turn down. After a few minutes it back on the screen

Until yesterday, everything worked very well - and the update of security is the only change that I made

Any ideas?

  • 2016-004 security causing the finder update restart frequently?

Yesterday I installed the 2016-004 security update on my iMac desktop. He seemed to have installed correctly but the finder now randomly restarts when I try to navigate/access of files. Sometimes, it crashes and the files don't load in the finder windows. If I restart the finder, manually, they will be available again, but the problem that happens all minutes of use. There do not appear to be updated later, and I don't know if it is possible to restore? I have a clone and a backup time machine, but I don't know how I would rollback of security update with time machine. I tried to restart but the problem still occurs. I tried updating to El Capitan months but had to restore the Yosemite system, because the system was apparently unable to manage treatment. I have the max 8 GB of ram installed. Hello, jusbajan!

Thank you for joining the communities Support from Apple! Looks like you have a problem with the Finder doesn't work don't properly on your iMac. I know how it is important to be able to use the Finder and make it work properly at all times. I suggest you to start the computer in safe mode to see if the problem that is happening there. Read this article here: try safe mode if your Mac does not start-up. Even if the Mac starts up properly, safe mode will eliminate startup problems that could cause problems like what you experience with the Finder.

    Start in safe mode

Follow these steps to start in safe mode.

    1. Start or restart your Mac.
    2. As soon as you hear the startup tone, hold down the SHIFT key.
    3. Release the SHIFT key when you see the logo Apple appears on the screen.

After the Apple logo appears, this may take longer than usual to reach the login screen or your office. This is because your Mac performs a check of directory of your drive to boot in safe mode.

To leave safe mode, restart your computer without pressing any keys during startup.

If you do not hear a startup chime after pressing the power button, see what to do if your Mac does not illuminate.

    If you use FileVault

If your boot drive is encrypted with FileVault, you can always hold the SHIFT key immediately after switch on/off your Mac to boot into safe mode. You may be prompted to log in twice as part of this process - first to unlock the boot disk and a second time to log in the viewfinder. You can release the SHIFT key after seeing the first login screen.

If these steps do not help, check and see if the problem occurs with a Test user by following this link: How to test a question in another account on your Mac user. The Test user will allow you to see if the problem is specific to the user or the system-wide.

    See you soon!

  • No sound after upgrade to security 2016-004.

I installed Security Update 2016-004 this morning after updates. Everything was fine, including resetting.

After the system came back, I noticed that the speaker in the title bar icon was gray and no sound speakers. However, the headphone sound output.

System Preferences says "Digital output" that apparently my MBP 17 "end 2011 on Yosemite 10.10.5 has not.

    Can someone please help?

    Thank you!

    Fernando

    Try a reboot.

Make a backup using Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure that data files can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.

Try to set up another admin user account to see if the same problem persists. If back to my Mac is enabled in system preferences, the guest account will not work. The intention is to see if it is specific to an account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

Isolate a problem by using a different user account

If the problem is still there, try to start safe mode using your usual account.  Disconnect all devices except those necessary for the test. Shut down the computer and then put it up after a 10 second wait. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the SHIFT key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. Startup is considerably slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a check for directory and disables all start-up and connection, among other things. When you restart normally, the initial restart may be slower than normal. If the system is operating normally, there may be 3rd party applications that pose a problem. Try to delete/disable the third-party applications after a reboot using the UN-Installer. For each disable/remove, you need to restart if you do them all at once.

  • Wi - Fi pass drops after iMac sleep mode

Help, please. I had a lot of Wi - Fi problems after upgrade to Yosemite. I know that many others have had similar problems and the Genius bar was not able to find a solution. I get the same "I never heard of this problem before" and then run simple diagnostic tests. Here are some features:

    -iMac 21.5 "2011 Office

    -OS X Yosemite 10.10.5

-Have had problems with connectivity Wi - Fi based on the current version works, but the worst problems came with Yosemite

-iPad 2, Asus computer laptop and HP printer work fine. I tested the Modem and the router, they work well

The problem: after my iMac Sleep Mode wake up my network connection is interrupted. I have to physically click the Wi - Fi connection and wait it is the signal (it takes about 30 seconds). It is not a big problem, but it becomes very frustrating after what happens every time. I have other users in households who also have this problem and they are not very good with the iMacs.

Someone had this problem and was able to remedy?

    Thank you in advance,

  • Sierra on iMac sleep restart OS

Select the day before leaving the iMac, or when sleep occurs when the value in energy saving; Sierra of OS - macOS 10.12 (A 16, 323), Darwin 16.0.0, system restarts on hitting escape to wake up.

    Hi SteveSJS,

I see that you are having problems with your Mac restarts once you press the ESC key to wake your Mac from sleep. I understand you want to your Mac to wake up from its sleep without problem. I'll be happy to help you.

The first thing I want you to do is a SMC reset, and then test the issue out by putting the Mac to sleep and wake it again.

Reset the management system (SCM) controller on your Mac.

If the problem is still there, please start Mac up in safe mode and then put your Mac to sleep and wake up then as you normally would. Check if the problem persists. So go ahead and restart your Mac to pick it up on your normal user account.

Try safe mode if your Mac does not end commissioning

Alternatively, you can test to see if this problem occurs in an another user account on your Mac. For more information on the implementation of a different user account, please see:

  • My iMac sleep

I have an iMac 27 "end 2015 a few weeks ago, and the sleep function worked fine. But all of a sudden yesterday, he refuses to go to sleep. I used to use the shortcut keyboard option + command + eject, but it does not work. The screen just turns off. Then I tried to choose "sleep" from the Apple menu, but the same thing. The screen turns off, but the drive never turns down. I know it's not instantaneous, but I leave 30 seconds and it will not turn it down. It continues to run until I have press a key or click the mouse. Already, I went through the evolution of the system preferences. Nothing is shared by the computer. "Wake for network access" is disabled. 'Allow Bluetooth wake up' is disabled. My keyboard is a USB Apple wired one. I quit all programs and applications and it will not sleep. I moved the cursor "display off" from 10 minutes to 1 and then back to 10 minutes. I left alone; the screen is off, but the disks never turned down after several hours. If I want to leave for a while, I let the music so he can't SLEEP. But for the last test, no music was played. I checked if something prevented from sleep in the activity monitor, but they are all the 'no '. Energy saving, "Prevent computer to sleep automatically when the screen is off" is not checked. "Put hard drives to sleep when possible" is checked. I use the same settings I used for on an another iMac. It's very frustrating because it was working fine the other day. I turned off the computer and unplugged it overnight and it will not sleep. Anyone know what is happening?

I just bought a new HP printer and set up on my iMac to print. After a LOT of messing around FINALLY got it works, BUT a day later upgrades arrived to update my iOS X 10.9.3 with a simultaneous upgrade of the software driver for the printer. I duly installed at once – but now, regardless of what I do the printer will not work. The computer can be seen as it is showing ink etc. levels and said he printed and I can print test pages, but it has not allowed me to print from Word, Excel, Web or PDF!  I tried to uninstall the printer drivers and reinstall those of the HP Web, which I suppose would be the 'old' - but still no luck. I need this job and am close to tears - any help would be appreciated. I also tried deleting and reinstalling Office for Mac... NB it prints beautifully and effortlessly to my husband's PC.

    Welcome to the LAG54 forums,

I saw your post about not being able to use the printer completely after a few updates. I will do my best to help you with this!

    First, try the following steps:

    1. Mac OS X: how to reset the printing system
    2. Repair disk permissions
    3. Restart your computer
    4. Add the printer: full function and driver-OS X 10.9 Mavericks software

I hope that does the trick! Let me know the results!
